  1. Well Mr B, you are right again.... I just can't help myself! Lets get things into perspective here. The law in question was passed at a time when Great Britain was starving, and our huge rabbit population was costing us dearly in terms of crop production. The problem at that time was that you could have a number of landowners who kept rabbit numbers in check (by forming a 'Clearance Society' for instance) who had to witness their hard work go down the pan because there were pockets of rabbits which were left to re-infest the surrounding land, or simply travel onto it to feed. Railwa
  2. Here we go again..... OK, firstly, DO NOT attempt to treat this yourself. You could potentially make the problem worse, and all the time you have rats you are seriously compromising the health of your family. What price do you put on your health? There was a case recently of a lady who caught viles disease and died very quickly. Do not feck about with this yourself, CALL IN A PROFESSIONAL! Now, before all the armchair experts and wannabees out there start crying "he would say that", and "it's easy", let me tell you that most local authorities offer free, or subsidised service fo
  3. As someone else has already suggested, get legal advice, and quickly. Do not have any direct contact with the farmer, just refer him to the legal advisor. The farmer would be silly to refuse an offer of reasonable compensation, the courts take a dim view of having their time wasted. As for the dog being destroyed, I think it would be unlikely, as it is not a danger to public safety, and the owner is taking action to prevent a recurrence of stock worrying. I'm surprised the police are involved, as I think this is a civil matter. Get a lawyer on the case ASAP.

    Feral Cats

Feral cats can be treated as pests, providing you can prove without a doubt that they are genuinely feral. Unlike dogs, owners cannot be held responsible for the actions of their cats, and there is no requirement for them to wear collars, or be under control. There is a strict code of practice for dealing with feral cats, and although it is not law, it can, and is likely to be used in a case of criminal damage if a cat was illegally destroyed. The onus would be on the person who killed the cat to prove that it was feral. Be careful. Very careful.
  7. How would it make the site more "efficant"?
  8. Most waste site operators (which are usually privately owned) tender for pest control services, which will usually include rodent and fly control as part of the contract. They will be looking for properly qualified pest controllers, who have full insurance, and documented safe systems of work. You should also consider holiday and sickness cover - which is why few of them go for small companies when awarding contracts. The usual specification also includes BPCA membership. I've priced a few of these type of jobs, and it is just a case of working out the time requirement and pricin

  13. Can you tell me which law this is exactly? I'm not convinced.
  14. No offence mate but that is a load of rubbish. There is no law relating to 15 feet, and there would be no excuse in law to shoot a dog that wasn't under control, unless it was in the act of worrying livestock (not gamebirds), and as a last resort. Read the above, criminal damage....
  15. Taken from this weeks Shooting Times: So, to shoot a dog without lawful authority is criminal damage.

  17. Dog walkers can be a pain in the arse when you are trying to run a shoot, but threatening to shoot a dog is not on. As someone else has said, report him to the police. Just making the threat is enough for him to loose his ticket. Or you could go and see him, without your dog, and ask him why he has such a problem with you, and where else you can walk. If he won't be reasonable, tell him you are going to report him. Once released, pheasants are classified as wild not livestock. That means that he would never have the right to shoot a dog even if it was chasing birds.
  18. I work on my computer quite alot of the time, so yes, I do keep an eye on the forum. With the ease of spellchecking these days, there is no excuse for some of the crap posts you see on internet forums. I'm not very keen on having people think of hunters as being illiterate, even if some people do have genuine problems with basic spelling, and also, as someone else has pointed out, it makes posts much easier to read if the spelling is reasonable.

  20. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that the spelling of some of the posters on THL is terrible.... Whilst I realise this is a hunting forum, and that is more important than fine details like the English language, I'm sure some people could make good use of a spellchecker to help them write better posts. I've found one for Internet explorer, so please download it and make good use of it...... Click here to download
