  1. There are some very good pinned articles on this forum, which tell you exactly how to set snares for rabbits. It would be a good idea for a few people to take ten minutes to do a search, or even just have a read, before they ask questions...... Oh, and by the way, the way you have set those snares is very unlikely to work. Go and have a read............
  2. There is a search facility (top right hand side of page) which is available on here. If you type 'ladder trap' into there, you will find two pages of threads about ladder traps. Alternatively, you could invest (wisely) in 'Trap Making, Step by Step' written by our very own JohnB. I'm fairly sure that all the measurements and instructions for a ladder trap can be found in there.
  3. You are right in saying that air pistols have to have a maximum power of 6ft/lbs energy. However, (no matter how I think dispatch should be carried out) there is no law preventing the use of an air pistol to dispatch. The only legal requirement is that we have a duty of care to ensure it is done humanely. The GCT recommend an air pistol (all be it with prometheus pellets) to dispatch mink caught on their rafts. Nice one Chalky. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels the need to reach for a gun at every opportunity.
  4. My views are not out of date. DEFRA (formally MAFF) and the Forestry Commission, still train their staff to dispatch squirrels using a bag and priest. Don't get me wrong. I think that what Paul and the organisation are doing is fantastic (hence my donation) - but I didn't like seeing Fenns incorrectly used, or seeing the gun being used for dispatching caged squirrels. As I wrote earlier, its a like using a hammer to put in a screw IMO. To me, it shouldn't be a personal issue, there are good, legitimate reasons to use the bag method. I've personally dispatched many, many squirrels u
  5. As I say, most professional wildlife managers use the priest method... The reason? Less chance of missing/wounding, less blood in the trap, no chance of ricochet, and no chance of an ARU turning up. To me, using an air rifle for that is like using a hammer to put in a screw. The end result is the same, but it's just not the right way. But each to his or her own...........
  6. And what would you suggest then Matt?? Foxy Most properly trained professionals (MAFF, FC to name two) train their staff to dispatch them with a priest. Quick, clean and safe.
  7. Well whatever you do, don't set your Fenns like that, . To work properly, Fenns need a roof ~ hence the foul caught squirrel just after the break. They are doing a good job up there. I might even consider a donation. Anyone who is interested can visit their website here.
  8. Sad to see that he can't dispatch em without an air rifle.....
  9. Squirrels can be successfully trapped using both MkIV & MkVI Fenns. This link will take you to the STAO which lists the traps which are legal, and the species they can be used for. OTC wrote a very good thread, here , which outlines the principles of tunnel trapping. Woodland squirrels are one of the easiest species to trap; they are naturally inquisitive, and you do not need to bait traps to catch them. Just make sure that you have permission to trap on the land you are using, and that there are no red squirrels in your area. Correctly set, a Fenn will do no damage to the ma
  10. If you leave the dead rabbits on the ground for ten or fifteen minutes, all the fleas will jump off the rabbit.
  11. To be honest mate, it's been 9 years since I've used one, and I suspect they've come on a bit since then... I do know that the company I was talking about in the earlier post (they tend to strike suddenly, if you get my drift)rate the system very highly. It also gives you a bit of backup should anyone ask trickey questions, and could, I suppose, be a bit of a sales tool. If someone else, like foxy09 has a good recommendation, I'd accept it because my experience is somewhat out of date.......
  12. Here ye go D & N: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Magellan-eXplorist-4...A1%7C240%3A1318 We used to use the megallan kit on the ministry job, and it was easy and reliable.
  13. I know of a large pest control/wildlife management company who use this method. They 'waymark' each trap when they set it, and then use it to find the odd trap that gets lost. It is also handy if the person who has set the traps is unable to check them themselves for any reason (sickness etc). I've never had a problem finding traps, but to be fair, I'm not trapping on the same scale as some of you guys these days.

    LONDON

Yeah, I was just thinking that Tomo. The winter of '47 was terrible, wasn't it...........
  15. Fair enough Foxy, I may have misunderstood parts of your post. I'm still very sceptical that you caught three rabbits, and all three broke-away. I stand by the other points made, especially the fact that you've come on here to tell everyone about your presumption, with little or no visual evidence, BEFORE you had spoken to the supplier (Out of order IMHO), and the fact that you have not considered operator error (I'm not all that interested in your ten years). I'm sure Trapworks will continue to thrive without your future business. Why don't you ask JBS (if he's a different person
  16. While I understand your reaction, I'll tell you why I smell a rat. Firstly, you set five snares, in an area that by your own admission has few rabbits, and you say you caught five rabbits. That's bloody good going for any trapper. Secondly, you've offered no evidence of your claim. Most people have access to digital photography, and would post pictures in a case like this. Thirdly, you've come onto the forum to slate some free samples which have been sent to you before speaking with the supplier. I quite understand why Trapworks may have blocked your pms given what you've done.
  17. Those would be the same breakaways that the original designer (Glenn) was saying would be fine, only a few days ago. Don't be too quick to condemn Mr Duckwing... I smell a rat. I know Trapworks and the quality of their products are fine, someone is mischief making.......
  18. Less text talk and more spell check would help people understand your request. If you take a look at the top of this forum, there is a very good article by OTC about tunnel trapping. Fenns need to be set in tunnels, and it is very important that you have some sort of roof to any tunnel as otherwise the victim will be thrown clear of the trap by it's action. Baiting is not usually needed with tunnel traps, as most pests will investigate any dark tunnel without. The other thing is to make sure you are using genuine traps which are approved for use in the UK. Currently, only t
  19. No, you shouldn't. It is illegal to use any spring trap to take, or attempt to take a bird in the UK.

    how?

That provides a website address and NOT a link though Stubby..... Yes, Sorry Kay, I used my own website address because it was the only address I could think of at the time........

    how?

Links are easy. You need to put a code before and after the link, which is wrapped in the square brackets ( >[these chaps] < ) So for a normal weblink, you use the code url at the begining and /url at the end. The following is an example, using normal brackets instead of the square jobbies.... (url)www.uktrapper.com(/url) Providing the square type brackets are used, the link will end up like this: www.uktrapper.com It really is that easy........ The other way is to create a hyperlink. The only difference is that instead of displaying the actual link, you see
  22. That is not what Will suggested though, is it? Still agree with him? oops, typng error. Didnt mean to say in the eye. Meant in the head Your belt don't go through all the loops mate........What an absolute muppet........ Engage brain cell before typing such sh*t.
  23. Just so that everyone is clear, it is ILLEGAL to poison, or attempt to poison foxes in the UK.
