Before you part with any hard earned, you need to familiarise yourself with the Spring Trap Approval Order. The larger traps are NOT approved for use in the UK. Any spring trap has to be named and approved for each species before you can use it. As Snareman has said, the BMI traps currently imported by Magnum traps are approved and are worth the money. Some of the Victor Conibears are also approved.

Fair play to ye Al, you've got a problem, and you are doing something about it. Most importantly, you are doing something about it in a legal, honest, and open way. If ever the admin on here needed to ban a few idiots, this thread would be a good place to start. Just delete all these people shouting 'grass' etc. In a decent, law abiding society, no-one should be afraid to call on the authorities to sort out a potential case of animal cruelty. Hunters have more respect for their animals than the average person on the street, and are less likely to tolerate obvious neglect.

Good effort, it's nice to see the old fenns in action. A couple of points to consider. Firstly, that trap looks like it's the wrong way around. They need to be accross the run rather than inline with it. I would either not bait at all, or use much less bait. I always 'tune' my new traps. If you take the brass trigger out, you can file it back a little, which makes the plate sit a little higher. It would also pay to boil the new traps rather than just weathering them. There are a couple of posts on trap preparation over on uktrapper forum. Keep the fenns set all the time, a

If you've got mole traps that only cost £1.50 each, I don't think the moles will have much to worry about. I've just got in from checking 120 traps, and my feet are aching, so I'll let your 'prat' comment pass for now.......

Trapworks supply top quality snares, available online.

So someone 5 miles down the road from me calls me in to catch a mole in their garden. I'm going to turn up, set up traps, and then go back the next day and pick up the traps after catching the mole. You'd do all that for three quid? Or what about a farm with moles in a field of silage grass. You are expecting to catch 7 or 8 moles over two days, using 15-20 traps (which will cost £60+), you'd do all that for three quid a mole would you? Think about it. People aren't going to give their prices out over the internet, especially if its to help an ameteur with no insurance to ta

Chips in newspaper......................

Yes, Fenn have stopped making their cages, which were, in my opinion, the best that money could buy. Rolfe, give Pat down at Bridport Nets a ring - he had some left over, just tell him they were the ones Matt was drooling over and he should remember.........
-
I'm sure that is NOT true. I have heard that there have been some changes , I'm sure JohnB knows more than me.......

It's CoPR (FEPA) 1986. I'll try and find the exact wording....

I'm going to sound like a stuck record here, but here we go anyway.... You've got rats in some 'sheds'. You don't tell us anything about these sheds; what they are used for, how big they are etc. 4kg of bait in a week would be alot of bait in a small garden shed, but not much over a period of months in lets say, for example, poultry sheds. You haven't told us what the bait formulation is. If it's blocks, and it's disapearing, it could just be bait translocation, which will be putting non targets at risk. For goodness sake people, it's one thing dealing with an odd rat in your

Raco Force Paste Sachets, made by Lodi, professional use only and indoor use only.
-
The 'Raco' range, made by Lodi include whole wheat baits with added aniseed. The 'Romax' range from Barrettine include a chocolate additive, as does the whole wheat bait from Paragon. All those products are professional use only.
-
Adding an 'attractant' like peanut butter to an approved bait is technically an offence. I would try a different bait formulation and active and see what happens.

Is it illegal? didnt hear that before. dont want to have save the mice campaigners outside my door. I can see it in the newspaper "Man convicted for trapping and killing a mouse" After weeks of undercover surveilance dectives have finally brought a man to justice for murdering a mouse. They were tipped off by a local farmer that saw the man building a suspicious trap. The police priorotised this mission over the recent gangland feuds that have being going on in the nearest city. The man should have known not to carry out this act because he was advised it was illegal by nume

There is no law to say that mice have to be killed once caught. You are getting confused with 'alien' species like grey squirrels and mink. They DO have to be killed once caught.
-
WRONG! This is an internet forum to discuss issues, including legalities It may only be a mouse we are talking about, but that is irrelavant City people? You couldn't be more wrong. Country born & bred, and never lived in any city....

It IS ILLEGAL! Protection of animals Act 1911 Protection of Mammals Act 1996. Find another solution.............

lol you f****n dinlo Youse are child rapers all the gorgers are I take offence at that, as I suspect, do the majority of members here. I've never made offensive comments about gypsys, and have defended them often on here, but I object strongly to you accusing all non gypsys of being 'child rapists'. No wonder there is so much venom............

Or you could buy them from Trapworks.

vermin and pest control databases
Matt replied to Holdaway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
You could do that, but excel has limitations. It would also be alot of work, which Holdaway is offering to do. No, but I sent him a copy of one of the freebies, and we discussed how it could be made better. I know David, and know that he's a bit of a computer buff (as well as being bloody good with wire). Exactly. So far no-one has actually suggested any fields they would like!! I'll give some ideas about what I've already suggested: Date Place Species Sex Trap type Comments -
vermin and pest control databases
Matt replied to Holdaway's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Why would anyone go to the expense of running an online database which would have security issues? What Trapworks are offering to do is to produce an access based database, which would be available for anyone to download free of charge, to record their success or failures. Now we've established what is on offer, has anyone else got any ideas what they would want out of a record of their trapping etc?
