  1. You ask in one post; "how much interest will I get in the pup's", later you say the pups will be given away to freinds!! Don't take us for pratts!! Once again, if you are genuine. and I hope you are, P.M. A.S.D. he will tell you if there is a "Minshaw" stud available, never met the guy, but he has obviously "been there done that" Cheers.
  2. Hmmm, not normally cinical, but words like "bandwagon" and "jumping on", come to mind! Hope you are genuine, talk to A.S.D. if you want to know anything about Minshaws lurchers. Cheers.
  3. Iv'e seen a few badgers dead on the side of the A68 lately, full grown, not cubs. If someone was taking the heads only, for trophies, they would need to take the full cape. A badger that had been dogged would certainly show the signs. These corpses should be forensically examined by the police to determin the cause of death. If Anti's are capable of digging up a grannies body, they are capable of anything. Cheers.
  4. Just log onto Boar dogs site, mate. You will find out all you need to know about hunting with dogs in Oz. Cheers.
  5. Just got back from show. Very well run and organised, (unlike Blanchland, last week ! ) shame about the weather, p***ed down ! Not as big a turnout as last time, but not bad. Judge didn't give my pup a second glance but at least we won 3 prizes on the raffle !!!!! Cheers.
  6. Hi Blando, I'm sure that every dog owner on this site will tell you it;s a never ending learning curve, the best lurcher men will still need to ask or find out the hard way, best of luck. Cheeers
  7. Dogs these days are getting superhuman, (or should that be "super canine" ?), it used to be a good dog took 3 out of 3, then it went to 6 out of 6, now 12 out of 12 !!!!!! Where do I get one of these dogs, and where do I find that many hares ? Cheers.
  8. Hi Blando, I was heavily into racing whippets way back in the 60's and 70's, I handicapped for some of the best tracks in the North East. We thought nothing of coursing, lamping, ferretting with our dogs during the week and racing at the weekend. They were the bigger type of whippet, around 38/40 lb, 20/22 inch, and it seemed to do them no harm at all to be all rounders, suppose they would be classed as lurchers now ! Cheers.
  9. Hi Blando, you started this thread asking what sort of cross you should have, now you say you will stick with what you allready have; what is that ? Cheers.
  10. Just to make myself clear; the Beddy/Whippet 1st crosses I have seen range from around 16" to 19", these seem, to me, to small for daytime rabbits or serious lamping. The dogs I prefer are not huge, more like 22" to around 25", I have never seen the smaller type finish a course consistently quicker than the type I prefer. Of course, this is just my opinion, and we should all have the type of dog we are happy with. The "racing "type whippet is a good all rounder in the right hands. Cheers.
  11. Hi Blando, I cannot see any point in a Patterdale/Whippet cross, what will it do that a Bedlington/Whippet cross would not do better ? I'm not a great fan of Bed/Whippets anyway, to small for rabbitting,(o.k., many people are going to disagree with me !), and as for bushing, you may aswell have a terrier or spaniel. As far as non- ped racing type whippets are concerned, they may, and most likley did, have terrier in them long ago, but the addittion of greyhound blood from the 60's up till now is the reason why the non-peds are far faster than the peds. By the way, I am a great fan of working B
  12. Why on earth would any one want an Alsation x Ibizian ? Cheers>
  13. Cracking looking dog; thighs that Arnold Schazenneger would be proud of !!! Cheers.
  14. imo i dont think it matters on the colour of your dog if your out lamping most of the time you get chased is because theyve seen a lamp not because theyve seen a white dog chasing rabbits and if theyve got nite site your fecked anyhow  i think he means something red will show up more mate(old pic below) Why not clean up the dogs injuries BEFORE taking 'photos of it ? Cheers.
  15. Why can't it be as easy as posting pics on smoochers ???? Cheers.
  16. Hi Chalckwarren, of course your'e right; all sighthounds probably do have a common ancestry, as do ALL breeds of dog. Mush, I don't know where paid gets his information from regarding the Greyhound, but the Bedu I know, who range from western Arabia to northern Arabia, Jordan, Iraq & Kuwait have probably never seen a Greyhound, let alone introduced it's blood into their Saluki's, which, because of the terrain and climate, would be a backward step anyway. Cheers.
  17. Was at the local quarry at 6 this morning, 2 foxes walking towards me, about 100yds away. Perfect time to try my new fox call I'd bought at the Foxhall show on Sunday! Let out a short blast and both foxes spun round and shot away immediatly!!!! I've had more success just whistling at them, at least they stop and look!!! Ah well, another 6 quid down the pan. Cheers.
  18. Mush, it's a discussion, not an argument. You and Paid talk about K.C. and D.N.A.; I am only talking from experience. I lived and worked in the Middle East for 26 years and can assure you the Bedu would not pollute, (as they see it), the blood of their pure bred Saluki's with any other breed. A Sheik I know received 2 lurchers from the Queens kennels at Sandringham, as a gift and allways considered them cross bred mongrels, not fit to hunt with his Saluki's, (wouldn't give them to me though!!!). My own Saluki was a gift from the Al Harbi tribe and I have a dvd of his siblings coursing, and the
  19. No problem Hob, knew it was a long shot, still, I've some fond memories of the Customs House, Docks Club, Parachute Club, Etc, probably before your time though !!!!! Cheers.
  20. Hey Hob, massive long shot, but I new a guy in Saudi who lives in Abercynnon, Phil Curry, right into rugby, drinking, etc., as I said, a long shot, but who knows ? Cheers.
  21. Mush, where do you get your information from ? I owned a pure bred Beduin Saluki in the Middle East for 17 years, a completly seperate breed from the Sloughi, which is a native of North Africa; as different as a Greyhound and a Deerhound in the West, and not a "new breed " by any means. Cheers.
  22. Next door neighbour just paid £750 for a show type Beagle pup, so what price the fabled "all round lurcher" ? If such a beast exists and came onto the market. Cheers.
  23. It seems to me people are having a go at you because, 1, the number of dogs you have, and, 2, the number of litters you produce. If your dogs are given the care and attention they deserve, and your pups are going to decent homes, I can't see what the problem is. Although I have 2 dogs and find it a full time job training and taking care of them; both kennelled outside, seperatly, by the way. Cheers.
  24. A good show, first time for my pup, of course the judge was totally biased!!!! (just joking, the pup that won my class deserved to.) The bar was freindly and cheap, just supprised there wasn't more people using it! My missus won a bottle of wine on the entry draw, which we are drinking now. Canny day oot, looking forward to Bedlington next week, maybe Geordie judges won't be so biased, my pup is a Bedlington cross after all!! Cheers.
