Years ago, we flew two Lamborghini pick-ups into Saudi for a prince to fly his falcons from. Turned out to be so unreliable he never used them. Not this one, it's a file photo. Cheers.

Geoff bred some of the best non-peds, also some very good Beddy types. This was one of his breeding, Blisteringly fast, too fast for its own good, dropped both gracillis and retired early. Cheers.

Great thread ? Some laughs, some great stories, some great knowledge. The way it should be. Cheers.

I used to run whippets at the same track as Alan's dad, at Ashington, he had a good dog called bucephalas. God, I'm starting to feel very old ! ? ! Cheers.

Country Music was a top racer and stud dog. Hes in the lines of many non-peds and lurchers. He was in Markbicks Kat, a class little lurcher bitch. Cheers..

I like our little chats, and I appreciate and respect your opinions, but you will never agree that a non-ped is faster than a coursing bred on the run up. Which honestly makes me feel you've never seen a non-ped racing Whippet run a hare. Dont mistake a first cross Whippet/grey with a purpose bred non-ped, that would be like equating a first cross Saluki/grey with a purpose bred coursing dog. We used to run non-pets regularly on hares, but these days I don't know many who do, they far prefer the racing, but maybe some day I'll borrow one and we could have a run or two, it may just ch

I thought creating lurchers for certain jobs was to get the best of both worlds; Saluki/Greyhound......the speed of one, the stamina of the other. Collie/grey..........the brains of one, the speed of the other Whippet/grey, in the case of non-ped racers, the speed of one, the size of the other. Of course it rarely works out like that, and if you're unlucky you end up with the speed of the collie and the brains of the greyhound ! ? ! Cheers.

Of course there are exceptions, but I'm generalising, not taking going or ground into particular consideration. A non- ped is bred to sprint , a courser is, generally , bred to stay, get the best of both in one dog, and you've cracked it ! ? ! Cheers.

The distance is governed by the land the have, most tracks are,or were, on miners welfares. lets get this right, I'm not classing non-ped with coursing bred, hounds for grounds, as they say. Non-peds have been bred for generations, best to best, to get the fastest dog over the chosen distance, they want the speed of the greyhound and the size of the Whippet, and have near as damn achieved it. Coursing dogs, the same, best to best for generations for coursing hares. The difference is, a coursing bred will never win a race against a non-ped, and a non-ped will just about allw

Straight racing is 150/200 yards, bend racing is 270/300 yards 8 seconds for 150 yards is very fast, but a handful of dogs are breaking eight seconds ? Cheers.

I wouldn't disagree with you about after the first bend, but you said a whippet never leads up, I agree again, but as I've pointed out, I'm talking about non-ped whippets, a completely different animal You don't seem to be able to differentiate between the ped and non-ped whippets, I have owned and ran both, and pure Saluki and coursing bred and most other types of running dog, and I'm speaking from personal experience. yes, of course no one is arguing that the Saluki hybrid coursing bred is the best hare dog, but to say they will allways lead up a non-ped Whippet is very naive and i

I'm talking about non-ped whippets, nothing like ped whippets, and if you think any dog can lead up a top class non-ped, you're dreaming, but I'm sure you're on a wind up. Either that or you've never seen a non-ped ! ? Cheers.
-
I remember the owner of possibly the greatest non-ped stud dog, Bilko, saying his only regret was not putting the dog to a Saluki, keeping a bitch and putting that back to a non-ped, hoping to keep the speed and add stamina. Yep, that's what we all would like; speed AND stamina ! Cheers.

Tongue in cheek mate ? But a good grew will take one or two and you can be on your toes before it comes on top. Cant hang around these days ? Cheers

If it looks like Andrew going down, the Queen will probably try to invoke the ancient right of Prima Nocta ! ? ! Cheers.

I like them 3/4 whippet x 1/4 Saluki ? Cheers.

She's looking at 60 years, I wonder if she'll use the nuclear option before she commits "suicide". Shes supposed to have incriminating evidence on some very important people. Clinton, Trump, Andrew will be getting a bit worried ! Cheers.

Labour are now proposing banning all hunts from public and government land. Cheers.

When Wilf was on about him and Francie being amongst the 144,000, I said as long as Tutu and Setanu weren't handing out the tickets. If there is a god and a heaven, I'm sure Desmond will have a front row seat. Cheers.
