  1. I was brought up in Longbenton and I give Byker a swerve ! LOL ! Cheers.
  2. If they are wounded in action they get automatic French citizenship evidently. Cheers.
  3. I talked to a couple of Legionnaires who were based in Djibouti some years ago and they said the Legion was a lot more selective now not accepting any waifs and strays. They particularly like our paras and marines , especially NCO’s. Cheers.
  4. Geert Wilders far right party, the PPV have won the most seats in the Dutch elections, but he needs to form a coalition to get into power. He wants to leave the EU, stop all foreign aid, stop immigration and is virulently anti Muslim. It looks like we will go in the opposite direction, with either a Labour outright win or a Labour/SNP/LibDem coalition. Shame the only right of centre party we now have is Reform, who the mainstream media are loathe to even mention. Cheers.
  5. Your getting your "mb's " mixed up mate, I'm sure Greeny means Mike Brown, not Mark Brick. Marks Kat wasn't a whippet, but had Country Music, a whippet/Greyhound way back in its breeding. Cheers.
  6. I lost the £70 bet and won the two £54 bets then a few days later won £60 with the greyhounds on the flapping tracks, so ended the week £98 up ! Not bad for a 20 year old back then ! Cheers.
  7. It was more than a weeks wages back then, I don't know what a weeks wages are now, I've been retired for almost 20 years ! Cheers.
  8. Little Mary, mid 60’s; One of the all time greats; only 23lb but would win 32lb scratch races against dogs and bitches. Sired by the pedigree whippet Bilko, but dam was bred greyhound sire; pedigree whippet dam . A very unusual way to go. A perfect example of what non/ped whippet breeders strived for; the size of the whippet and damn near the speed of the greyhound. Cheers.
  9. There was definitely no greyhound on the sires side, mostly pedigree whippets. I can’t trace any greyhound on the dams side as there isn’t that much information on the dam, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t, but at a racing weight of 32lb for a dog, I’d guess there wasn’t any greyhound or maybe very little. Lets not forget, racing and coursing whippets back then looked considerably different to the show whippets of today. Cheers.
  10. I've got that book aswell. Met Pauline when I was at an open whippet racing event at Highgate Greyhound stadium late 60's, she was from Pudsey in Yorkshire, a big whippet area back then. I think she was instrumental in forming the BWRA. Cheers.
  11. Cashell's Evening, did very well in the last Waterloo Cup; 24" and around 45lb; Turbo Connect, a 56lb Greyhound my pal had. He tried to mate it with a non-ped whippet a few times but it never took; Cheers.
  12. When the BWRA proposed raising the limit to 55lb I was very vocal,in my objection. I told them there was smaller Greyhound won the Waterloo Cup ! They banned me from their forum. To be fair, the limit stayed at 32lb for their Racing Championships, but there was a lot of litter wastage with dog pups from Greyhound influenced litters so they raised the limit for Scratch Racing. 25", 50lb scratch dogs look just like pure greyhounds and are probably faster, Great to watch but stretching the term "whippet" somewhat ! Cheers.
  13. The American KC has always had a 22" limit, but to be honest, I think 18" for pedigree bitches and 20" for dogs is good. Cheers.
  14. 22” was big for even non-peds back when I was racing. Clubs had a 21” limit and the BWRA had a 32lb limit. Now if they fit in the trap they can race at the clubs and the BWRA still has a 32lb weight limit for the Racing Champions but a 55lb ( ! ) limit for Scratch Championships. Cheers.
  15. A mate of mine who shoots up in Scotland dropped off a boned, rolled, vacuum packed haunch of venison for me. I didn’t question it, just cooked it and ate it. Bloody delicious ! Cheers.
  16. England to win the Euros ? More chance of me winning the Euro millions…… Cheers.
  17. I was in Saudi working for a sheik and a pal of mine took me to meet an American manager at Saudia Airlines to discuss me getting hired. The American said to my pal “I haven’t understood a word he’s said, that ain’t English, but I like his resume, tell him he’s got the job” ! Cheeky b*****d. Cheers.
  18. Transgender woman footballer quits and threatens to sue for discrimination because rivals refuse to compete against her after she left opponents 'terrified' and broke knee of a player 'blocking her shot' | Daily Mail Online WWW.DAILYMAIL.CO.UK EXCLUSIVE: Francesca Needham, 30, has announced she is to 'step down from playing football for the...
  19. I’ve literally just finished eating curried chicken and chickpeas and kept some for tomorrow ! Cheers.
  20. My sort of advent calendar! But isn’t it a bit early to be opening it ? LOL ! Merry Xmas !
  21. There’s also the very recent case of the woman pool player refusing to play a trans bloke/woman in the final. The trans reasoning is that pool isn’t a strength sport it’s a skill sport . If he’s correct , how come not one woman snooker player or woman darts player has ever made the worlds top 64 ? He is missing the point completely….it was a Womens final not a bloke dressed as a women versus a real womens final ! Cheers,
  22. Teachers very recently have complained they have to change nappies and potty train PRIMARY school children , because some parents can’t be bothered ! My missus said back when our kids were young they weren’t even allowed into nursery class unless the were out of nappies and potty trained. Of course these parents are a minority, but an ever growing minority . Cheers.
  23. You ask “ what will they do with the tax’s”, well, Sunak was on TV this morning bragging that we are giving an EXTRA £30 million to one overseas government and £100 million to another. Cameron , the new Foreign Secretary and his deputy , Andrew Mitchell, the overseas aid minister, are already lobbying Sunak to raise the £10 billion we already give, from 0.5 % of GDP to 0.7%, while the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt is saying he’s going to cut benefits! what planet are these people on ? Who is advising them that this will get them votes ? Cheers.
  24. Putting VAT on private schools could end up being “cost neutral” according to some studies. The people who can just about manage to pay the school fees will be forced to take their children out of private schools when the 20% VAT is added, and put them into state schools, thereby either increasing the class sizes or employing more teachers and building more schools. I can make the case for grammar schools and private education, you can rebut everything I say, it just boils down to our political outlook and whatever we think is best for our children. Cheers.
  25. Just reminded me of Curried Crab at the Lobster Pot on Walking Street, excellent ! Cheers.
