G day Bjay I live out in Whittlesea but sometimes do head out your way maybe we can catch up some time soon. Or if you are interested pop up my way for a day and come out with us.

When you feed your ferrets what I do is make the bop bop noise before feeding them I have found this to work when I take mine out and they don’t want to come out. I have being very lucky to have not lost a ferret yet. I am dreading the day I have to dig for a ferret as a lot of the ground I work is very hard clay and rock , and also I wouldn’t know where to start if they don’t come out from under a shipping container.

By a bag of pre packed pet food from the butchers and look on the bag on where it comes from. Sometimes where the pre packed stuff comes from has where it was packed or a name on it. Never know that name may have a discount store. I found that on where I get my chicken frames from. On other one I found was the local markets that sell meat. The market I go to they try to sell of all their meat very cheap on a Saturday afternoon as they get a new delivery every Monday morning. I also find paying cash you will get it cheaper.

Hi all I live in Australia and do a lot of ferreting with long nets and purse nets. I have being watching a lot of the videos on YouTube on how you guys use the quick set nets on the basket. I love the idea on how it works but I am unable to find the anything like that in Australia and to by it from over seas it will cost me an arm and a leg. Has any one ever made up the basket or has photos on what they have made. As you can see by the photos we just put poles in the ground and tie our nets to them. This does work but very time consuming any ideas or even web sites some one can point me into

The only reason I won’t get a dog for ferreting is they need to be worked pretty much every day and I only go out 2 or 3 times a month and work full time. As much as I would like a dog for ferreting it wouldn’t be fair on it being in a back yard not being worked. The one thing I have never liked is how some people keep their dogs in small pens for most of their life and don’t even get walked once a day.

I put one rabbit in for 5 ferrets. And also meat. I hope I am not under feeding them. By the next morning the rabbit is well gone. But should I leave the skin on or off.

My ferrets get fed a different meal each night mince , cut up chicken frames as I find they eat them quicker then if they are whole , venison coped up as I am lucky enough to now a few dear shooters , kangaroo mince yes you can by our national animal on the shelf in Australia , one whole rabbit at least once a weak. On the days we go hunting they get at the end of the day the livers, kidneys , lungs and hearts from the rabbits. The one thing I am unsure about is should I leave the skins on the rabbits when I feed them to the ferret or not. Some people say yes as it’s good for them others say i

Unfortunately my my mate that owns them runs mainly Jill’s and every year he has never had a problem selling them but last year could quite be the we were in lockdown due to that great corona. That is an old photo from early this year. Most of them have been sold. If he believes the person who is the buyer has no idea about ferrets he won’t sell them. He is only 86 and had ferrets all his life great old timer to go hunting with.

The collies are a very well respected dog in Australia and are a great working dog you will never tier out and are a one person dog that seem to be like human in a dog with out a great deal of training respect your animals and they will respect you. Great looking dog.

Try and nip train it hurts the problem I see in Australia is there is no young ones that want to get into ferreting and Carry on the tradition of ferreting.

It’s great to see that they have gone to a good home. It’s not often people pass on their ferrets for free that kind of thin just doesn’t seem to happen in Australia people even charge if you want to bread your ferret with theirs. Well done.

Just out of interest does anyone have ideas on any nice plants that I can plant near my ferret cages to help knock out the smell. The cagers are cleaned out on a weakly basis and the cagers are well ventilated but their is still a smell about. This is something I want to try and get well under control before I upset anyone close by. Any ideas would be great.

Does it really matter at the end I generally use cut bucks and in the of season take my Jill as well I have been very lucky to have not have to dig for a ferret for a very long time as our ground over here is exteremely hard and rocky and clay. That is the main reason for not using locaters on the ferrets as you would need a machine to dig out the ferrets. If you look up the return of the jcb by Simon white head on YouTube that is what we would be doing in Australia on a 2 foot dig. At the end of the day each to their own opinion on what ferrets you use. After watching a lot of videos on YouTu

At what size or weight do you classify a ferret to be a micro ferret. I have never weighed a ferret before. What should a ferret weigh to its size is their any formula for it as two of my ferrets are brother and sister and the female is almost one third of the size of her brother. I will post some pitchers of them later on today.

The ferrets today got a rabbit the interesting thing was it had no ears any way when we skins it and cleaned it the poor Littel feller was full of shot gun pallets. He was all healed up it must of happend some time ago. I didn’t get any photos when we skinned.

Interesting never seen or heard of that before. But again it my not be available in Australia. In the past all I have used is detol which is for humans and that seemed to work well. But I think I will now look more into it as it may not be a good product to use on animals.

If you want a cheaper option get some fine sprinkler heads that they use on ferns and run them they don’t use a great deal of water. The one thing I am not a fan of is using electrical devices for keeping ferrets cool in summer is we tend to get power blackouts often.
