Nothing like watching ferrets play when I get a chance I will put up a video of mine playing it may sound strange but I have put to together a play cage for them it’s great to watch them play and jump around. Great Video once again. I youse to work does ( jills ) but when they come into season I was unable to work then but when I was talked into cut bucks ( hobs ) I have never looked Back as I found you can work them all year round. But I do find they seam to hold you up a Littel bit more. Good luck and work at it.

Buddy you must have a lot of knowledge on this sport I thought I did after doing it for around 40 years of and on but after being on this forum it’s amazing what I have learnt.

Great Video what an interesting way graham skins the rabbit with the back legs. It’s something I will give a go at doing.

All good being putting them all together of and on what I found was when my Jill was in the cage them they the one hob would fight with the others with out the Jill near them they were all happy unsure why but all is great. Thanks to all with the advice. The photos are not the best but they are all happy together.

That’s a good way of doing it as you don’t clean out the rabbit population and their is always something left for next time. Nice Video.

Love seeing good numbers and happy dogs well done. At the moment the numbers are their but they are not in the burrows for some reason.

G day all just wondering if any one out their can point me in the direction on some ideas on mouse trap designs. I have bought some and also made up some of those ones with the rollers on top of a bucket. But I just want the satisfaction of building something unique that will catch more than one mouse. I don’t like using baits and unable to use traps that kill them as my kids will get upset. Any ideas or where to look on the net would be great.

The ground nets are around 20 feet long and we store them in buckets. Does anyone have any photos of the poke nets on how they do the double pins it looks simple but I do want to get it correct.

Another net we do use is a ground nets we just lay them over the rabbit warrens put the ferrets in and the rabbits get tangled up in them this is the lazy way if you can’t be bothered putting up long nets or putting down 50 or so plus purse nets. You will need to enlarge the photo to see it. We also use the same nets around garden beds.

This is one of the Purse nets I mad up its 6 foot long its a piece of fishing net cut into a square and for the rings I used key rings. Put the draw strings in and their it is. A bit rough but works well. On mate of mine did have a good idea to extend the draw strings and have a pin at both ends which is something I will do on some to see how it works. But I don’t use them that often mainly under logs and large openings.

I think the main reason I get pole cats and not the sandys as my wife doesn’t like the sandys. She doesn’t even go ferreting or will even go near them doesn’t even like hunting of any sort. But as long as she can name them all is good.

I have found if you own ferrets people think your strange. When you tell people you go ferreting over the years some of the reply’s have been why would you eat ferrets as they don’t understand ferrets chase rabbits.

They are well handled you have done a great job with them well done. You did make mention about a ferret you tamed down from biting I think his name was bulldozer and you put it on YouTube I have been unable to find it could you please point me in the direction they would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the photos of the net the outer mesh is 30mm and the middle mesh is 120 mm as I did measured it. It was origanly a fishing net when I got it and I removed the floats and lead weights and just hang it up and it has worked very well. The down fall it picks up every leaf and twigs it touches and the rabbits very really get away but not so easy to get out.

Unsure how you will go but I did recently found out that in Australia when we were in lockdown it did fall under a necessity as the Jill could possibly die if not bread look into it check with the authorities or even with the RSPCA. Good luck let us know how you go.

I have seen this done a clip on the ear unsure if I would do it to my ferrets. The photo is a bit small it was put on as the ferret was loaned out for breading. The owner does have a pair of pliers that work in reverse to unclog it. It doesn’t seem to bother the ferret at all.

I forgot to ask does the colour of the nets weather they are purse or long nets make any difference. And also the bagging of the net on a long net from pole to pole. If it is 10 feet between poles how much netting should be used. I also have a 150 foot long fishing net that is a trummal net so I have been told I have removed the floats and the lead and have used it as a long net got plenty of rabbits with it. It is 3 layers the two outer is a small mesh and the inner one is a large mesh it has the nick name of Mr tangles nothing gets away when it hits it. I will post up some photos of it when

Amazing I thought a net is a net after reading different articles on this forum and others on the internet from the size of the mesh , type of materials used. I mainly use purse nets and have made up a dozen or so from a large fishing net that I cut up put rings on. I found them to be good and the mesh is very small around 15 mm square. Nothing escapes from them.

I can’t believe ratting is so popular around the world. Is it because the rabbit population is low or is it another sport people do. It’s something I haven’t really herd of in Australia.
