  2. Yeah Shepp, sometimes you forget how different it is, called in at a rural shop in Margaret river and was chatting to the owner and I asked if she ever saw snakes around her property. She then told me she rarely saw any when they had dogs but since they died they had tiger snakes breeding under the patio and brown snakes in the garden
  3. Used to have a 1700 diesel astra estate, cheap insurance, 45-50 mpg and reliable. My current dog/family car is a 2.0 Renault Laguna estate, the best car i've had. It has a huge boot, air con, electric everything, is really comfortable and although two litre petrol does between 32-36 to the gallon. Also had a Peugot expert as a work van and they are great vans.
  4. I have every Plummer book and as a teenager visited his place in Caithness with my dad. At that age I believed everything i read (hopefully I've matured  ). I think Dave Harcombe is a geniune terrierman and although I've only every "spoken" to him via e-mail he seems a top bloke
  5. Hi Shepp, My wife used to live in Oz (Sydney mainly) and always told me i'd love the open spaces and wildlife and she was right. We went for three weeks last year, we spent the first half in Western Australia (Freemantle, Perth, Rockingham and the Margaret River), we visited the Pinnacles desert and Stirling ranges before flying to New South Wales and took a camper van north to Coffs Harbour area. Absoloutley loved it and you're right about it being a great place to raise kids, my 3 year old loved it, parks, BBQ areas and pools everywhere. It took a while to get used to seeing parrots i
  6. Went over last year and my wife has been offered jobs in NSW and WA, we have been discussing it and think we will probably go but she is 7 months pregnant at the moment so it will probably be another year. i'll be taking three dogs and the amounts of money being mentioned for shipping them is giving me a funny turn Stabs what are you doing with your other dogs? am I right in thinking you're off to Queensland? Cheers Simoman
  7. Enjoyed the show despite the weather Good to have a chat with Glynn Jones at his stall, my only whinge has nothing to do with the organisers but the people who let there dogs shit all over the pub car park and show field without picking it up, really pisses me off when your kids get it all over their wellies and you have to watch every step :realmad:
  8. Welcome FK, think before you post and i'm sure the wonderful folk on this site will answer all your questions
  9. I think the ref was good, lots of european refs would have blown up for a lot more I thought the ref was crap and ruined a potentially great game. Some of the decisions were a joke, especially when he gave Henry the yellow card :realmad:
  10. Good luck with your pup mate but shouldn't you have found out more about the cross before buying one?
  11. Hello mate, Are there many people working terriers in Oz? Are there suitable breeders of workers in Australia or do people import there dogs? Cheers Simoman
  12. Beggers can't be choosers fellman, it a charitable donation, designed to give a newbie like yourself an introduction to terrierwork Anymore of your ungrateful attitude and i'll be outbidding Chilli for the denim jacket and keeping it for myself :realmad: Sorry won't be bidding for the jacket, I misread it said size 2-3 and not 23. Which I assumed was stone  :11:
  13. I feel an underlying pain in Fellmans thread on Plummer Terriers. As a hunting community I would like to start a charitable collection to purchase Fellman a new Plummer pup, who will contribute to this worthy cause?

    HARDMEN

Hi Rob, i've been thinking along similar lines. Over the winter myself and a couple of friends (who only use there terriers for rats) have been clearing cover strips and working around feeders to kill rats, however so far when I have mentioned using the terriers for foxes they have refused as they have people on the land at night with lamps and rifles To try and get some permission for next season I am making some cards offering free pest control that I can drop off with farmers, shoots etc cheers Simoman
  15. Show bred rubbish, get a European working Shepherd

    HARDMEN

Excelllent post Socks I started off ratting and rabbiting and had very limited experience with foxes etc. This was due to the fact that nobody in my family hunted and my mother was/is anti hunting . I got a terrier as a teenager and mainly ratted and rabbited although the dog did find its own foxes and bolted a few, I also converted the family collie into a makeshift lamping dog  I had been out of hunting for a few years and involved in competitive dog training but missed hunting too much and now get out as much as possible, either watching hounds, pigeon shooting, ratting an
  17. Never been to either the Welsh or Midland, which one do people prefer and why? Cheers Simoman
  18. America looks fun, i'd like to try terriers on Racoon/Groundhog and if I had lurchers, coyote. Was in Oz last year and seeing the foxes during the day wandering in open scrub would have made for interesting runs
  19. Never seen one but we have adders in our local forest. A friend of mine lives in Cotgrave, Notts and regularly catches them in his landing net when fishing
  20. Newark show is this weekend, not much to do with lurchers or terriers, been last 3/4 years due to work.
  21. Scroll to the top of the thread you lazy bugger, May 21st
  22. Another wind up??? Anyway i'm off downstairs to give Foo Foo and Trixie their roast chicken supper, yesterday they barked at a cat on the telly, the working instinct is still strong...........................
  23. I like you're training regime Rob, I've been on that one for a few years now.
