  1. its all right using a filter for lamp shy quarry but soon as every other person who decides to lamp your land gets them selves one it is no use .... and its also best to try a couple of differant filters on your land see which one spooks your quarry less... i found red shite when i lived in durham but found blue great
  2. sure the first time was because i didnt know you and didnt know anyone who'd been out with you , (which i wont go out with any one who cant be vouched for by mates as you never know who your out with), the last time i was going to but ended up going out shooting pigeons instead .. got a couple of good holes up on permission now which could do with checking if you ever fancy it
  3. think ive picked your post up wrong lol you after a shovel or spade ... my spade (graft) is a draper one i think and its a good one got another here with a snapped shaft ready to be made into a small one to go with my small shovel when i dont want people to know what im doing
  4. im sure mine are bulldog ones with steel shafts (bought them like this) and they are cracking shovels ... dug through some rocky ground with them , get your self a good graft as well cant beet them for hard ground ..
  5. i only sold rip (terrier) and barney (lurcher) because i moved from england to northern ireland and didnt have the room over here for all the dogs , i did offer the terrier to the lads i know in england for free (even offered him to people on here for free first before he was sold to ted as he was new to the forum and i didnt have a clue who he was or what he was like ..lurcher went back to the lad i bought him off for my money back ...
  6. ffs chid you changed yer tune, yours was 1 a the most prolific numbers in the free ads at 1 point aye right mate ... ive sold 3 dogs and thats it ... and when i sold them i dont think they was a bad price as i sold them under £150 ... Rip (14/16 month) i think ted gave me £120, (barney 3yrs)i got £150 for off the boy who i bought him off and fizz (12 month) was sold for £140 to toshaugh off here and as far as im aware the people who bought the dogs are happy with them ...
  7. wouldnt buy a adult dog , id buy a pup and bring it on myself... if it was that important for me to rid the land of pests id rather ring a mate and get the use of them and there dogs... i do this when i need to do any digging and id do this if my lurcher was out of action..
  8. a well bred lurcher x lurcher out of fox killing parents would be my choice weather they had bull in them or not i wouldnt really care. to say a certain type or cross is the ultimate foxing dog is a load of bollox and breed/kennel blindness if you notice most people say the best dog for a certain job is the dog they have sat in there kennel ..
  9. i use a leather lead with the clip cut off , got some of the quick release ones but i find them a pain in the arse to use especially getting them back on quickly
  10. seen 23" lurchers do what you want one to do .. also seen a 29" dog pick up rabbits with ease .... to me it all depends how you bring them on and what you show them my dog will do all quarry apart from deer as he asnt been tried on them yet (still legal in NI) he is 24" and cant see why he wouldnt do one ...
  11. that's a nice stamp of a dog how much bull is in him she is a bitch and she is a half bred. one of the best lurchers ive had the pleasure to see work ... will do anything and everything , seen her take rabbits on the golf course , work around holes and a doing her thing on the lamp ... would own her in a flash given the chance
  12. a well bred lurcher x lurcher would be my first choice or a well bred collie x whippet/grey about a 1/4 collie in the mix for me
  13. wait ,stay ,stop are all unneccecery imo ,i use SIT and my dogs sit till told to move.. they picked up on there own to stand still while ferreting so never used a word for that ... altogether i use IN (to walk in) OUT (to hunt up) SIT (to sit) one of my dogs also sits on hand signals and both come in to the whistle .. dont need a command to come retrieve as they just do it ..
  14. maxhardcores post nailed what a genuine dog man is only thing i would add to it is a genuine dogman as a connection with his dog that most never have ... the dog knows what the owner wants it to do before being told and the owner knows what the dogs gonna do before it is even happens ...
  15. was gonna say blackrocks myself.... gfs parents have some and they lay all year round ... found with the battery hen type (we call them straddlers) they seem to spook really easy and stop laying where the blackrocks dont ..
  16. think you have seen a dog with 1/4 of it missing mate ( was it running on 3 legs hahah) think you have picked it up wrong lol i was replying to rabs earlier post about bull/grey x collie/grey ... i just missed the grey out on either side coz i thought people would understand what i meant but clearly not hahhah.. just for you 1/4 bull 3/4 grey x 1/2 collie 1/2 grey
  17. alright people does anyone who owns/as owned a beardie x used a stripping comb on them ? not sure if i done right by starting stripping my lasses lurcher out lol he is starting to look good but his coat as gone really short dont look like a beardie x lol
  18. seen a dog of that breeding was a cracker rab 1/4 bull x 1/2 collie took all game day and night ... never seemed to get knocked up or marked up bad
  19. should try a deerhound/collie/greyhound rab i reckon one of them would be a good allrounder. everyones opinion will be differant on how they work dogs and how they rate them and when to say ones not for you...
  20. started with the two dogs ive been running for the last 3 seasons .... finished with the same 2 i dont see the point in chopping and changing, put all my work into what i have and im pleased with what they do for me
  21. in march the hares will have a belly full of young so they will be easier to catch
  22. nice one hogie.. wee spike is a cracker
  23. like the look of the dog in the top pic ... when they have fully grown should make 2 handy dogs
  24. looks a nice pup all the same mate ? any pics of the parents ? are the parents just coursing dogs or they used on other stuff??
  25. have seen hares run well on the lamp, but have seen lots panic, particularly if lamp is flickered. ps if you can run them you can come over, promise to feed, exercise and obedience train you! lol what type of food do you feed? if its good and the sexercise is good i promise ill catch you some lol
