  1. Could you possibly post a pic?
  2. they lay like machines, almost as well as good ducks do, and work very hard all day eating all sorts of bugs, are good watch dogs, and yes can be noisy, but no worse than geese. And they don't start in the morning as early as roosters do! I enjoyed the ones we had, and will probably get some more in the spring. GREAT for ticks if you have a problem with them!
  3. the older styles from other companies do tend to demolish apples (or whatever you are peeling/slicing, I use mine for potatoes, zuchini etc), but the one I have is from a company called Pampered Chef and it has some way of sensing the shape of the item you are peeling, so even odd shaped items have a minimum of waste. So if anyone out there is looking for a neat gift for someone who cooks, get them one! I know PC sells in the UK, their wesbite is pamperedchef.com. (Also their stoneware stuff is awesome!)
  4. Personally if I were to make a list of benefits/faults, from WORKING ABILITY/INSTINCT to feet to coat to temperament and on to any other number of things, a dog with one testical would be at the very bottom of my list. What use is a "perfect", beautiful dog with 2 nuts that has no working ability or instinct to work? But this is coming from someone who doesn't breed except for my own use, I don't sell dogs.
  5. LOL thankfully my 2 SalX's are a bit different than some of the "freaks" people complain about. The male X I have you could scream yourself crimson and he just looks at you like he's thinking "wow, the bitch has sure turned a funny color" ... then my bitch X (which was my first experience with them) if you snap a finger at her she looks at you like you've struck her and how DARE you lay a hand on her ... they are funny animals that's for sure!
  6. I've never understood why anyone would move to another country, and then proceed to try to change their "new" country into their "old" one? I have a lot of respect for the hardworking immigrant who moves to a new land for new/better opportunities, learns the language, become part of their new country ... not that they need to cast aside their heritage or background of course, but why should they act against and hate everything about their new land? Why not just move back home? I am frankly surprised that the march was stopped and have the feeling that there is something more to the story ..
  7. if you know anyone in the chilled/frozen food business look around for the metal grates in the stand up shelves in walk in fridges and freezers ... they worked perfectly for our kennels. buddy-very nice set up!
  8. IMO the things that work with most dogs just don't work with most Salukis ... the first one I got was a Sal X Grey X AM staghound and I thought isolation would work to turn her around, she wasn't allowed out unless I was "working" with her (obedience or out in the field). It took me months to learn that unlike any of the other dogs I had trained/owned, Salukis just don't seem to have any expression and their body language is very subtle ... a collie or terrier looks and acts thrilled anytime you pay attention to it, but those SalX's just seem to have the same behavior when they are thrilled o
  9. anyone who thinks parenting is remotely easy is a fool ... good luck with your situation, I wish I had some good words of wisdom for you
  10. thanks for the good info, I've got chickens and geese and ducks and used to have a turkey, so the next on my wish list is some peafowl of my own!
  11. so all Brahma crosses always have feathered legs? What other heavy breeds might lend that type of coloration, rose comb etc?
  12. We were all wrong with the guesses, last tape showed 27.5 and weighed 53, so he needs some more weight to him before being effective on the heavier game. Not had him on any jackrabbits yet because we have to drive 4-5 hours to see any, we’ve had a rough few months after totaling the Subaru! He isn’t afraid to grab and run around with a coon carcass, the couple of live ones he’s seen when he was 8-9 months he ignored really ... once his leg is healed up we’ll be getting him out with the stags to see what we can get jumped up for him. One ball dropped and is full sized, so no worries there.
  13. he is MUCH better now (thank heck small miracles!) he only screams when he is bored or needs out to piss! But it was months of dealing with the noise before he was "fixed"
  14. I have a rooster that was given to me, and am wondering what his breed or mix is? I was told he is probably an Americana/Araucana crossed to a heavy breed such as a brahma because he is very large, is knee high and about 13 pounds. Anyone have an opinion on him?
  15. you won't find too many forums out there ... this one has a fair number of US posters with Stags
  16. I am terrible about finding pics once I download them to the home computer, so here is all I could find yesterday ... Here are a few with Noose and Loca (BullxStag from UphillDoc)-the pics show Loca's size progression over a few months! Monkey is the black terrier from Hoss in the bottom pic and with the turtle Noose & Jugs Monkey Lyra (SEA Orvchatka) my new stag Feather from Tomkat-she's the Thief/Dusty bitch and at 6 months is bigger than Tia & Slag, just a touch smaller than Noose who seems to be finishing at 27" and Jugs
  17. tell me about it! The wood whack was just bad timing and then the slipping was a freak thing, but at the end of the day they were both our fault so I feel like crap ... of course the dog feels worse I am sure
  18. He slashed his back leg the other day we think by skidding and then slicing it on compacted snow along the road, keeping a close eye on it but I am pretty worried ... he has actually been QUIET in kennels! Oh and before that J whacked him in the head with a 50 pound log that he was slinging into the woodstove, dog ran between the log and the stove ... he thought he'd killed him! Blood coming from his nose, legs twitching and seizing ... 10 minutes later he was up and about fine. CRAZY I will try to get some pics up this weekend, we've had negative 28 fahrenheit with the windchill which i
  19. glad to see you are still alive and posting Dan ... when you coming out our way? The new salX slashed his back hock pretty badly so we aren't going anywhere anytime soon, but you are always welcome here before the ice hits!
  20. Red Head is Bass Pro Shops name brand stuff, so it is like the Cabellas name brand stuff. But we ahven't had the best of luck with Red Head boots, they last one season and then crap out.
  21. I know there was a thread up earlier about this topic, which I didn't take much notice of, but its recently become big news around the town I work in ... on one hand I don't want anyone watching me, but on the other hand if this was my brother or son and this video helped put the attackers in the slammer, then my opinion obviously would change. I am trying to work out pros and cons both ways and am interested in hearing some thoughts please http://keepcolumbiasafe.com/attackvideo.html
  22. thanks guys, I'll pass on your words to him!
  23. LOL tell me about it, I felt like I was sleeping with a different man for a few weeks He actually was having a bet with some guys at work, I think I'll have to monitor his bets a bit more closely after that debacle! He shaved it off the next morning thank heck! I should have made them announce his name as "the Ginger Ninja" as suggested by a friend on here! the guy he fought was 5 inches taller and a few weight classes up from him so quicker was better than a long drawn out beating! He had a hard time keeping an opponent (6 dropped out in 7 weeks) so he jumped at the chance on the da
