  1. Edited to say , I heard bully wasn't endless like bog for instance . Totally different types
  2. Can't agree in steady types being as fast . They ain't mate . Some just fall far from the tree . Simples . However some siblings can have totally different styles. Look at woolys , they tend to be slower etc
  3. Basically I'm saying even a top hare can make a mistake and be killed . But yeh , agree the best hares are still not under control even at 3 mins . As for lucas . Dog was top notch by all accounts even if I personally have no time for owner . The dog was immaculate and a real killer. Tell me.do you think bully woulda stopped the lucas on a real hare hare ?
  4. I was running them for 40 year mate . I know exactly what a strong un is . But I've also seen an electric dog bamboozle a hare that was flying early . Making me wonder " was he a real un " but he made one mistake and payed price , whereas a steadiier type wasn't pressuring enough to capitalise on the hares one mistake . So no ond can say it wasn't a real un . Just like we can't say otherwise. Also been out pre ban and one dogs consistently catching at 2/3 mins and others at 4/5 mins constantly. To me the steadiier type owner can't surely be thinking he's riding all the goodens and the faster
  5. The do if they are bashed on plough at the end of someone's toe lol . And again , I tend to disagree to an extent . If a dog forces a mistake and hare gets outdone. How will we ever know it was / wasn't a gooden. I chuckle when I hear this . How many have been put up and owner is standing there thinking, here we go . Dog looks a superstar for 60 seconds. Shoulda put it away a couple of times. Then little hare gives himself a shake and pulls said dog all over the land . Now imho, that hare would be talked about as a real un . Whereas he coulda been caught in 50 seconds with a sharp killer
  6. Agree and disagree mate . A top dog will be testing a real good winter boy regularly. Forcing a mistake if possible. Yeh Geoff was good lad . Hills was a good site . But imho , a good dog kills anywhere. Stock broken, taught to jump wire , if the dog has good gears , brain and good steam , should kill anywhere in UK
  7. My first sal x was out tor o dartmoor. Was amazing watching her in the early 90s run the arable. Was bred to a coursing grey . But she fell to the sal . Great memories
  8. Surely in a bygone era. The Afghan hound was a dog with a purpose. Otherwise they wouldn't have been formed . Who's to say there sint a strain still being worked out there and we are doing the animal's a disservice. Look at the early saluki hybrids here in the early 80s to now . Things change , so much so that the arabs came back to the uk to help their lines out . Their lack of wisdom is our gain . Especially wiping out most prey that they ran . Jmho
  9. It would be nice if someone local could even loan this young lad a seasoned ferret . Get the ball rolling so to speak . And lewis , with every mistake and blank . Your still learning something. Trial and error young man . And as has been said . You will be on top of the world when all your efforts come good
  10. I actually take more pleasure in catching a few from different areas and reintroducing them in other areas late January. Then watching their progress . I personally get more enjoyment in that than nutting them . Just keeping a few for pot
  11. Lovely litter buddy . As for dew claws. It's all opinions until a dogs standing lame with a dew claw pointing wrong way . That's why some would walk away . Some never have a problem. Again , it's also dependent on terrain etc . Regardless. Atb with the litter
  12. Seasons off to a good start davie . Well done .
  13. Personally I wouldn't use bone radiol until swelling is completely down pal . As someone said . Freezing water till the dog cant take any more . Few times a day . Once theres no heat or swelling on the injury, then the bone radiol comes into it's own. Please dilute it as it can blister . Good luck
  14. As you know prince . Its expensive at £40 quid a bag . The difference I notice is . When soaking it , I only soak for 15 mins . It doesn't swell up like marshmallows. And stays relatively at the same consistency ( more palatable) . And secondly, I feed less off it . 1lb red meat mixed . In to up the protein, a full chicken leg in morning for breakfast during season. I dont use supplements as you know
  15. Salmon and potato, duck and potato complete. No grain . Been using it wit a handful of raw for years . Suits me and dogs do well on it .
  16. A young 23 year old took a chance on this . His uncle is known to a lot of Scottish lads in the dog game . He put the lad up for the post . Might I say what a great lad . Learning fast . Has hardly had to shovel shit lol . Hes ready to start his qualifications etc . But what an honest hard working lad who took a chance leaving his old job and in a few year could be a technician in Australia if he still fancies that . Nice to see a lad take an opportunity and good to see a success story
  17. I think most novice lurcher men learn more off their first dog than a hundred books . We learn from mistakes. Well we should do . My first was a collie, grey x whippet. Caught some gear . But missed loads down to my inexperience. My advice is wait until something catches you eye , rear it like any of your other dogs but implementing field work training. Maybe get someone local to oblige a day or 2 out . Point you in right direction. Off you go . Best a luck
  18. Romeo ,himself crushes foxes . That's first hand ?
  19. Think you could put a hill collie to her and she would produce
