  1. I had the pleasure of going out with the lamp a few times with a chap from Plymouth way back in the mid 90s , I was running my collie / grey x deerhound at the time and the chap was friendly with a few of my mates . He had a first x bull grey and at the time it was the first i had seen , i remember it looking the meanest dog i had ever seen and made my 25 tts look like a whippet . Anyhow my mates told me plenty of times how the chap and his bull x would ride on the back of the quad out on the downs , get to within striking distance let the dog go and he would pull reds down , they were however
  2. What a shame , lovely looking dog that
  3. Sounds like you are heading in the right direction, good luck with him
  4. The venison bit seems relevant to me , had a little bitch back from a mate who used my old deer x grey to line his bitch . Had her from a pup 8 weeks , live on my own farm so she always around sheep , never battered an eyelid , used to go in with pet lambs even play on the garden with lambs and my kids . As she got older she used to come out round the ewes with my Huntaway and was always more interested in rabbiting than the sheep . At about a year old she realised the Huntaway would go up in our woods after roe and would join her ..... never bothered me until my neighbour said they had seen t
  5. Looks good , what is the breeding of your lurchers ? Going to try to get mine out for an hour with the lamp before it freezes
  6. It is good ground , little fields but it suits me and i have quite a lot of permissions which is good . Did always run a collie x deer / grey and a first cross deer / grey but they got older and kids got in the way so had a few years out , just getting back int it really and have a 11 month old pup ... his mum was first cross bull /grey and the dad was whippet / grey x collie so hoping he will make a handy dog What do you run ?
  7. Yes mate , between Launceston and Liskeard Plenty where i am , but my dog is only young so this may change as he gets older .
  8. LOL ...... do you want some Bodmin Moor blood in them
  9. Coming up for 11 months now , still a bit mad but definitely quietened down . Been out with the lamp a few times and a days ferreting, he is very keen . Considering when I had him he was very under weight and not very well looked after , I think he is starting to look quite good.
  10. Not seen one in Cornwall for about 5 years now , used to be a lot out on the moors
  11. Clu-Briter sport .... light and seems to last ages with a good beam spread . Maybe not great in massive fields but as my biggest is about 6 acres its perfect for what i want from a lamp
  12. Here she is .Hell of a job to get a decent picture , she is carrying a bit of extra weight at the moment but not to worried as she is an outside dog and it gets bloody cold here in the winter
  13. Lol ... super patient me ? She has always done it any scent and gone !! Did read somewhere that they added Foxhound blood when creating the Huntaway to add endurance , guess thats where the nose and drive comes from
  14. Will try to upload a couple later
  15. Chap i work for has a Collie / Huntaway x lurcher , getting on now and retired but showed promise when younger but the chap isnt really a dog man and didnt know what he was doing . I have a pure Huntaway bitch at home which i use on my sheep . Her prey drive is mad , as soon as we finish doing anything to the sheep she is gone off through the woods after deer / foxes , as you say she is vocal but only seems to be when scent hunting if we are ferreting or out with the lamp she is quiet , not a huge amount of speed but could run all day and super clever . I have been thinking of putting my
  16. My tractor broke down earlier and while I was waiting for the engineer a whippet turned up , shortly followed by a lady with about 7 dogs on leads , turns out the whippet was the father , and black lab she had with her the mother and the remainder were the offspring. ... they looked very handy dogs , almost like they had a bit of bull in them , said they had to stay on the lead else no rabbit in the area was safe ☺
  17. Great video , dogs working well with the ferret What breeding are the dogs please ?
  18. I have the varmint in .177 with weirach silencer and Hawke scope. Its my first pcp moving from various springers and i am really impressed by it . Seriously accurate and found it to be an excellent hunting rifle . Only downside i have found is that i was meant to share it with my lad , but he finds it a bit heavy so bought him a smk which is also very impressive especially at about £170 .
  19. Perhaps he will turn his liveliness into good pace later
  20. I hope he calms down a bit , really pleased with him he just a bit manic . He does get a good run out both ends of the day with my other dogs . Thanks
  21. He is out , for a couple of hours in the morning while I feed up and check stock and a similar time in the evening. Started taking him on the lamp once a week and playing about ferreting weekends.
  22. Perhaps , but he is nothing like my others that I had from a puppy just seems a bit more full on .
  23. Hello , having recently taken ownership of a new dog after a break of about 8 years i am interested to find out about other peoples observations of temperament of their lurchers The dam of mine was a straight bull x grey and the sire was collie x whippet / grey ..... I think he will make a good dog , he is about 10 months and have started to give him a bit of a run out to get him used to the lamp and working on recall etc My main question is will he calm down , as soon as he is out of the kennel he is full on and literally runs everywhere ( i live on a farm so space no problem ) and
