  1. I don't watch TV or have Facebook and I'm a f**k site happier for it. I don't have the time or the inclination and I don't want to get wound up by shit that I can't do anything about.
  2. I think it depends on your hunting and your terrain. I'm in the wet flat clay of the south and wear wellies for majority of the season but I've been hunting the hill with Owain and you need different gear ther. I'd be looking at technical hiking gear rather than the usual hunting togs. Looked to me like you got it sussed Owain, good boots, breathable trousers and a hoody with a waterproof jacket in a bag. Added bonus is you look like a rambler so less likely to get hassle than if you set out in camo or flat cap etc
  3. Your best bet would be find someone local doing the kind of hunting you want to try. Beating in pheasant shoots is a good place to start. Assuming things ever go back to normal

    The two we kept

The old girl is wishing the puppies didn't exist ??
  5. I suspect the same was said about bows and arrows, gun powder and lamps lol
  6. I used to read a lot but too busy now. The last book I read that really made me think was Feral by George Monbiot. He write it before he became a climate change celebrity and lost his credibility with me.
  7. I've got a patch of ground cleared on my place for a garden. Planning to stock and rabbit net it, have a few out door beds and a poly tunnel but i know nothing about them. Please enlighten me ?

You've got pics now? Put them up!
  9. Get well soon Mrs Stanley
  10. Well, that escalated quickly ?? Jetro is right though, if you put time and effort into building up a population of anything I think you've a right to be pissed off if someone rocks up in the breeding season and decides to try and whack them all for shits and giggles. Not sure what rattled JD cage so much, history with Wilf or a few cans maybe?
  11. Never made a sound running. He's a whiney twat in the truck if he thinks we are going hunting but when it counts never a murmur. When we got him I was told he would be too slow for rabbits and too small for anything else. He proved that wrong pretty quick. He could regularly do double figures lamping, was a great ferreter and freezer filler and not scared of much.
  12. I've got a whippet x Russell. Probably the best dog I've had work wise. He's nearly 13 now but in his prime he was a good dog who'd give his best in any situation. He was never a fast dog but still caught well day or night. He still does a bit of ferreting and mooching now. If I could clone him I would.

How's he doing? Got any pictures?
  15. If you are truly keen on whippets then there's a thread on here about non ped whippets. There's a wealth of knowledge on there and some dogs you could aspire to. Its a shit load of pages but well worth a read
  16. I can't moan about the garmin, they are 6 years old now and have seen some use and not missed a beat. I hope to kerp them going for a long time to come too. I just feel like a lot of the features are wasted on me ?
  17. That's pretty much all I use the garmin for. They are full of features I don't know how to use! Lol
  18. I use garmins but my mate wants to buy a set of collars and these are considerably cheaper than garmin https://www.britishdog.net/Item/DogTraceX20 Has anyone any experience of them?
  19. Without putting the time in to start with you aren't going to know the difference.

I hope so. The sire was a machine in his day and can still put a shift in ferreting. His eyes are going now and he's slow but he knows where to put himself to catch them as they bolt. The dam is a grafter too, gives 100% in cover but has a tendency to burn out over a long day. Shes small for the breeding and I think she just burns off energy fast, you can literally see weight drop off her over a days work. I can't wait to see how the pups turn out.
  21. I'm 5 years late but quite up for a trade. Got good rabbit lamping and a fishing kayak that doesn't get enough use

Thanks lads, I hope they'll suit what i do. Still not sure what'll they'll look like but I'm certain they should have decent drive
  23. We've just raised a litter here out of my Patxspringer bitch, put my wife's old whippetxrussell dog over her and she had 8 pups. All were spoken for by friends straight away but we kept two back. I'm really looking forward to bringing them on over the summer
  24. Saw my first swallow of the year this morning
  25. The hard bit is getting the message across that you want them to find a particular ie; wounded, deer rather than any or all deer.
