  1. Smart looking dog, how tall and how old? Just be careful not to give it too much too young, maybe stick with non biting quarry to start with to build confidence. Should be good for rabbits, maybe Jack rabbits and those little grey foxes you have over there. I've never seen them but they look smaller than red foxes. Sometimes whippets are braver than they should be so bear that in mind too. Good luck
  2. There's a page in Instagram for a podenco pack in Spain, looks like they can do more than just rabbits. They seem to hunt a bit more like hounds, ie as a pack, rather than individuals like lurchers. I think its because they look lurchery that we expect then to hunt differently than they do.
  3. What's put you off the 008? I haven't got one but use a mates a fair bit and really impressed by it (it doesn't take much to be fair lol) I have every intention of buying one before next winter. I've not used a pulsar since the 550 (?), are there much better than a pard?
  4. It looks like a good day out to me. It never fails to amaze me how we feel qualified to judge others people hunting in parts of the world we've never been to and yet won't be judged ourselves. Hunters are a funny breed lol
  5. I've been looking at this for something to do in the Summer. Few vids on YouTube from round the UK, obviously not as good as overseas but might make a nice change from hook and line? Anyone got any useful experiences?
  6. Me and Jai and couple others you might know were on that trip. It was a good trip but not very successful hunting wise lol. To be fair almost none of the dogs and very few of the lads had even seen a boar before the trip and there was a lot of distraction by what the dogs thought was their usual quarry but was off limits on the day. We saw a few boar and couple the dogs made contact but nothing ended up dead. Nearly lost my terrier down a dry well which would've been the end of him if I hadn't had garmins on him. The highlight for me was an accidental coypu hunt in France on the way to Spain,

  8. A mixture of patience and exposing them to lots of deer, in situations I can control, and accidents followed by bollockings lol. My collie based bitsa bitch picked it up pretty quick, the bushers and terrier blooded dog were hard work. The bitsa bitch is now so steady to them that she will sit under a high seat and watch them when I take her stalking. I use her as an indicator and tracking dog for that which she's taken to really well. If a wounded one is still mobile, and I tell her to, she's more than happy to catch and pull it for me though. She's 10 now, im really going to miss that dog. N
  9. I think they'd be ok if you could choose to go places where they are when you wanted to. It's a pain in the arse when they are in every bit of cover whenever you want to walk the dogs though. Mine are now as broken to them as I can get but it took ages and a lot of accidents to get it done
  10. It depends what you into I guess, used to love them but now they are the ruination of many a mooch lol
  11. Bloody nuisance things they are, more deer than rabbits in some places
  12. He used a different dog in the end, was a shame but couldn't be helped. Im in the process of getting straws off my old lad, as he won't get any younger. I'd not even thought about it til this thread so thank you for the idea whoever mentioned it first
  13. Hoe old is he and how tall? I might be looking for a similar stud in a few years if my mutt puppies turn out how I want. He's a smart looking thing, how is he work wise?
  14. Its definitely a route I will be taking at some point
  15. Id eat one no problem, reckon they look fun to hunt too
  16. I like the idea of having them about. A few more wetlands would be good. Good for fish, good for wildfowl and good for all the associated creatures that would live there. im sure if a bit of money was chucked at the affected farmers they wouldn't moan too much. They'd probably earn more by setting up a pay to park area for the beaver anoraks that turn up in their droves. Arable monoculture isn't the only way to make money from land
  17. I've been wearing aigle paracours for 3 seasons now and can't fault them. The neoprene is starting to go at the heel now and the grip is wearing down but they are still warm and waterproof. I wear them pretty much all day every day once the ground gets wet so they have been put through their paces
  18. If they get the knack they are b*****ds for poults fresh out the pen
  19. I'm picking one up on the way to ratting on Saturday, see how it goes
  20. I have loads of batteries that I use daily so that would be fine. I've been told its not powerful enough though so will probably stick to a smoker
