    I’m just to nice aren’t I ? He did me a good turn just before Christmas that helped me out and asked if he could come out with me, so I felt I couldn’t say no. anyway, debt paid now so back out on my own, to be fair to him, he didn’t spook the fox we seen, that winded us became of where it entered the field

    Well, I was all set for my Boxing Day evening out at my mates place when another mate rang me asking if he could come out with me, so change of plan as I can’t take him to my mates as he doesn’t like him, so off to the sheep farm we went, the wind direction was less than ideal but we would give it a go anyway. Setting up with our backs to a hedge for a bit of shelter we set the caller going, it wasn’t long before I spotted a fox charging down next doors field, a few minutes later it appeared in the bottom of our field, it winded us straight away and decided to come up the centre of the field s

    Mine for 22nd of November to 21st December combined was just over £270 and that was in a month where me and her were not in the house much, the past 5 days we have used £80, it’s only going to go up next year and with the interest rate the way it is when my mortgage comes up for renewal in 10 months time that’s going to be another financial hit, financially me and her are in quite a good position, but we have still changed how we live and what we spend, we have friends and family that are really starting to feel it now, the sister in law live in a rented house with 3 kids, she’s a doctors rece

    Merry Christmas rifle people, hope you all had/having a good one ( thank fu*k it’s over here ) no pheasant shoot for me tomorrow but I’ll definitely be out tomorrow night on the lookout for a ginger ?

    England and Wales No game may be killed or taken in any county on Sunday or Christmas Day. Game for the purposes of this section means pheasant, partridge, red grouse, black grouse and hare. funny thing is there’s no such law in Scotland but many tend not to shoot game on these days

    Good days prep today potato and leek soup done for starters beef cooked, chicken cooked, all veg prepared, sprouts sorted ready to go in with bacon, cauliflower cheese made, cream cabbage made, parsnips ready to be roasted with honey, batter made for yorkie puds, gravy made, spuds ready to be roasted in duck fat lemon loaf with custard for afters ( didn’t make the custard) All this for 1 day, mental ?

    If it was a bit closer it would be an ideal place to run a couple of feeders, it’s ok now I’ve cut back on the pheasant feeders, I know which feeders they will be swinging off now before I get to them

    Up about 7 when I finally give in to the missus who has already been up about 3 hours like an excited kid, make a cup of tea then we have to open presents because she can’t contain her excitement after that I make the bacon butties, quick shower, get dressed and then start the 3 course meal she’s told her family they are getting this year, her sister, brother in law, kids, her mam and my mam turn up about 12, I spend the next hour shouting at them to get out my kitchen, about 1:30 I start feeding them, by 3 they are stuffed, sitting in my chair and outstaying their welcome, it’s anyone’s guess

    Feeding today so thought I’d go mid afternoon, take the thermal and have a look what’s coming back in as the light dropped, I’m quite happy with what I seen heading back towards the pens and getting up to roost over the piggeries, the beaters will dread it because they are spending their day in the thick bramble cover, we will be a bit limited on drives now as, the oak wood, tip drive, piggeries tree side and probably the roadside drive are all a bit open and cold now, with what I seen today I’m sure we’ll make a day of it on the 7th of January the squizzers are getting a bit out of hand

    It’s a toss up between a fox and a squirrel which is harder, I’ve seen them grey tree rats take 4oz of shot and still hang onto a branch ?

    It’s a bugger when they disappear, even when you know the shot was good, I’ve had a couple disappear that I’ve shot with the sp’s, that why I like the sako 70gn ballistic tip, put a fist size hole in em ?

    There’s no better job than flinging stuff through a Timberwolf all day, I don’t know why but I get a lot of satisfaction from it ?

    We normally find rats in them on the school sites, this one was in Hartlepool and the only rats where the ones driving past asking for any off cuts of cable, needless to say I didn’t put the cable through the duct because it wouldn’t of been there in the morning, really good jobs these for the academy’s, 3 hours work for almost a week’s wages, that’s the only reason I went this morning ?

    I fully understand that mate and I would of definitely taken that animal myself, if you know your land and what’s on it it really helps you to make the right decisions, and it looks like you did just that ?

    Leek and potato soup for starters, them roast chicken dinner, cream mash, garlic and thyme roast spuds and homemade gravy bit more practice for the 10 I have to feed next Sunday after being told this morning that it has to be 3 courses ?

    What a cracking read ? I don’t shoot for trophies, I only shoot deer for food, but there’s no denying that is a stunning looking animal
