What happened in Plymouth was 100% the fault of Devon and Cornwall firearms, yet, instead of the shooting organisations ( BASC in particular) calling them out on it, they have all just rolled over and accepted whatever they come up with, trying to get themselves off the hook and positioning the blame on SGC and FAC owners, I can’t see how it will ever work putting shotguns as section 1 as you need a specific reason for holding a section 1 where as for a shotgun all you need to say is you want to bust some clays on a weekend, the whole thing is heading in the wrong direction, who knows where we

The Unintended Keeper ( Diary of a keeping blagger )

Thought I’d do a little write up as I haven’t bothered much lately, Well the snow stopped play, I just couldn’t see anything through the scope, the plan for the evening was to have a call for a fox and clear up a few more hares, anyway I headed towards the wood in the light snow, shooting 3 hares and a rabbit off the front field as requested by the farmer as he’s still getting bothered by people chucking dogs over the fence, I’m really enjoying the little.17 at the minute and it’s preformed admirably lately. Well, this is where it all ends, by the time I had gotten to my favourite fox calling -

Today I’ve been taking to my mates dad, ( who I buy my feed wheat from ) he was asking me if we’d be putting our syndicate fees up for the coming season, I said I don’t think so ( depends on price of poults) he then told me that his fees have gone up almost £2000, ( it’s a private syndicate of farmers and business owners) now his syndicate is a million miles from mine, they have 10 guns ( members) they release 7000 birds and have a full time keeper, when I started working a few numbers out each day will cost somewhere around £750 a gun, as they shoot 13 days in the season, even if they get the -

Stunning landscape, you are very lucky to be able to hunt in them surroundings ? -
Bit more than just some concrete to come up and a foundation, all the yard pulled up, all new drainage in ( old drainage was backed up to the street, posh people’s sh*t stinks the same as mine) just started pulling the floors up in a couple of out building’s and going down 400 by hand because I can’t get the digger in
-
You know me so well

New job today, apparently a load of concrete to come up and foundation to go in, I’ll have to watch my P’s and Q’s here, they are a bit posh, I called him mate and he looked at me like I’d taken a sh*t on his chest

There’s something therapeutic about sitting in a room tinkering away I’ve not had the.223 that long and it’s the first time I’ve owned one, I cleaned it properly and what a dirty round that is, it looked like I’d been shooting coal bullets through it
-
A pleasant few hours stripping and cleaning guns, removed the NV from the.243 and refitted the vortex ready for the doe’s next week, give the.223 a good clean and refitted the NV, just need an hour up the farm now to get them zeroed, the .243 shouldn’t be too far off as I marked everything before I removed it

It’s a strange one, it’s so weary, any sound from the caller and it gone, but it still hangs around the farm, if it had been out on the fields I would of said it’s been shot at, all I can think is ether the farmer or the old boy next door have scattered it from the yard -

So, I was back up at the sheep farm tonight as I’ve got a problem fox, I say problem but the problem is it’s seems more intelligent than me ( not hard) I’ve spent a lot of time up here in February and have accounted for 5 foxes ( which is a lot for up there) and some other stuff but there’s one that I just can’t get, it won’t come in to any call and is always around the buildings or in front of the sheep, so over the past 3 nights I’ve been baiting a paddock at the back of the farm, now it was on the bait last night but as I approached it slipped through into next doors field, so tonight I tho -
The price of thermal scopes has dropped a lot recently because everyone is launching the next generation, pulsar have brought out the duo, 4k colour combined with thermal, saying that, the price is still mental, I’ve used load of different thermal scopes and what I found is you still need top of the range for them to be good enough Hik’s stellar 50, is a cracking scope and has had about 700 quid knocked off it, but it’s still 3grand

Wiltshires smallest fox

I don’t shoot loads of deer, only if I or someone else wants them normally, I’d sometimes take others out, but that’s stopped for the foreseeable, but my mate wants them thinning so I’ll have to get up there before he gets his keeper in to do it -

Still makes dismal reading even saying it’s all reported crime, shows what a state this country is in
-
Could be a typo, but when you read the full report it all reported crime, not just violent crime, and I’d well believe those numbers around here, it’s as ruff as toast, there places like little Albania you just don’t go
-
The reason it so high round here is it’s only a small area and I can think of half a dozen murders in the past few months
-
Only just, if it wasn’t for them 2 good Samaritans who knows what would of happened to me, in the most dangerous place in the country

Fencing repairs up at the equestrian school today, nice and steady, popped out to farm supplies for a few bits, could easily bankrupt myself in here
