I like looking through old year books, I had a look through one from Bell’s estate, I think that one was 1918 to about the mid 1920’s and what I noticed was the amount of wild game shot was much greater numbers than you get now, hares, grouse, wild duck, it just goes to show what effect the changes in farming methods have had ive shot on gisborough estate at scugdale it’s very posh ive got a quick story about gisborough hall. A good few year back when I was in my teens two lads used to take me fishing, at the time one of them ( Pete the shed ) was well into his pike fishing and his u

On the bright side you know that you have a couple to chase around over the festive period ?
-
Combine them with your pj’s and it’s a sure thing ?

One of the members keep a record of what has been shot but I suppose it would be nice to keep a more detailed record like numbers shot in the drives and what time of year to show how it has changed over the seasons

Day 5 over and done with, it started off very foggy but with me in charge of the beaters for the first drive we put out some cracking birds, flush them in twos and threes over some of the young guns, there was a lot of the members that didn’t turn up today but we still managed to put together two teams of guns and made do with the beaters and dogs we had, the fog lifted around 12 so after lunch we headed over to the piggeries drives, the first half of the drive was mine to beat and from the off the birds were getting up, half way along the ride I had a deer come out the thick cover no more tha

Cracking result using your fox whispering skills to get it in that close for a .410 dispatch ?

I’d definitely leave that one be, 10 or 12 years ago someone who I sometimes work for court someone dragging sheep down on one of his field, now the dog was a long way from its owner so he went across the field in his landy and shot it from the window, the owner disappeared off the land, a week or so later a barn mysteriously went up in flames, costing him thousands, now you couldn’t prove it was the dog owner because nobody knew who it was, but it’s a pretty safe bet

The problem we have had is the bloody weather, we have had half the outings that we would normally of had this time of year and although we don’t get them every time we go up, you can’t shoot them sat in the house, I wanted to go out tonight but it’s raining again

Feeding today, we now have the birds where we want them, it was very wet and the majority of the birds were in the shelter of the woods, I was there at first light and walked the roadside drive, to my surprise I came across a woman almost at the end of the drive, now this is well off the beaten track, she immediately asked if she was in trouble, it turns out she was collecting holly and pine sprigs to make displays for Christmas, I told her it was not a problem and pointed her in the direction of a very nice holly bush loaded with berries, she seemed a bit shocked to bump into a ruff looking f

Yep, raining here now, it had better clear up before morning when I’ve got to do the birds

Good on you for getting out. It was a proper pea souper up last night and it hasn’t lifted all day where I’ve been working and now we are forecast rain, I just want clear and cold ? is that to much to ask

A cracking way to spend a few hours, I can’t remember the last time I took a few different rifles out to fling some rounds about, them bergara’s are a lovely, it’s a shame I can’t get one in .22-250 lefty

I’m in Stockton, first time I’ve been there, good people, I’ll definitely be going back
-
You could be right, it maybe a blessing in disguise, I’ll just have to work a bit harder to pay for it
-
Nice, the weather will never spoil a days shooting with good people and if there’s some nice nibbles, even better ?
-
Some of the prices in this book are nuts, but to be honest I’d take some thermals at the minute, it’s bloody freezing ?
-
I’ve told him he can come whenever he wants, he’s one of them people that always finds what he’s looking for, when he used to do a lot of foxing with me 9 times out of 10 we would come across one but if I was out with others it was 50/50, I’ve told him if he finds anything worth a few quid I want the gift of thermal, I’ve got him a little Christmas gift hopefully he’ll get out looking for that treasure and put the heart attack behind him

My mate has sponged for a couple of years now, it’s mental how they all lamb in a few days, it works well for them because the first batch never runs on into the second so they know they will have the shed space if they are late turning them out due to weather
-
I was up at my mates place last week and a lot of there’s were still out with purple feet, they don’t have the room to shed them all up at the same time, they have been on the silage and nut for a few weeks now, the fields are knackered do you sponge your ewes ?
