  1. Nice, the weather will never spoil a days shooting with good people and if there’s some nice nibbles, even better ?
  2. Some of the prices in this book are nuts, but to be honest I’d take some thermals at the minute, it’s bloody freezing ?
  3. I’ve told him he can come whenever he wants, he’s one of them people that always finds what he’s looking for, when he used to do a lot of foxing with me 9 times out of 10 we would come across one but if I was out with others it was 50/50, I’ve told him if he finds anything worth a few quid I want the gift of thermal, I’ve got him a little Christmas gift hopefully he’ll get out looking for that treasure and put the heart attack behind him
  4. My mate has sponged for a couple of years now, it’s mental how they all lamb in a few days, it works well for them because the first batch never runs on into the second so they know they will have the shed space if they are late turning them out due to weather
  5. I was up at my mates place last week and a lot of there’s were still out with purple feet, they don’t have the room to shed them all up at the same time, they have been on the silage and nut for a few weeks now, the fields are knackered do you sponge your ewes ?
  6. That’s why I don’t eat rabbit anymore, I’ve gutted that many even when it’s cooked it still has that distinctive smell to me, it’s put me right off ?
  7. How many have you got, they can’t have long to go before they get the chop, my mate used to do about 100 until they had to declare them
  8. They look in fine fettle mate, have you had any feet trouble with all this rain, what was your single to twin ratio when you scanned
  9. Back up at the shoot today and thought I’d have a few squizzers, only managed two, they are getting a bit wise to me now, so not enough for a nativity scene sadly but plenty for fox bait, so I’ve set the camera up on a well trodden beat on a drive known as the piggeries, there’s an earth about 45 yards from where I’ve set it that has seen a little bit of activity, no doubt a vixen starting to check out likely dens, it will be the middle of next week before I go back up but I can get the other lad to check it on Sunday
  10. Hand feeding again today, weather was stunning you could certainly tell the change in the wind, I’d say we could be in for a bit of the white stuff over the next few days, I’ve fed all the main drives as I did on Wednesday, it hasn’t taken them long to clean up what was put down two days ago, I bumped into next doors keeper and I’ve come to the conclusion this lad is a plank, he was still chuntering on about when he was dogging birds on our land and how our feeders are to close to his boundaries on one drive and we are shooting his birds, I told him I haven’t seen any with name badges on and i
  11. Well the lad from the gun shop rang me earlier and he said it’s not good news, he rang every manufacturer they deal with, Remington, ruger, browning and bergara, not one of them will supply a .22-250 in lefty ( even browning ?) so he said the only two are tikka and sako, so it looks like I’ll be sticking with tikka, on the brighter side he can do it for £950, that’s £200 cheaper than my usual shop, I know all the best lads shoot lefty but I’m starting to feel discriminated against for being so cool ?
  12. Windy and very cold mate, mosh came with me with his metal detector and was over the moon with his coin find, almost 450 years old, ( Elizabeth 1st ) the history up there is unbelievable, I haven’t taken him to the burial mounds on the piggeries yet, they are Iron Age so he wants to have a look around them
  13. A few pics from yesterday up at the shoot, I know I’ve said this a few times but there’s no where I’d rather be than here, I’m back up to hand feed tomorrow, I think I’ll go an hour or two before first light as my mate metal detecting found loads of prints in the rape field
  14. Whoa, whoa ? no one said anything about suspenders, I’m not some kind of freak ?
  15. You lot are lucky I can’t put pictures on here at the minute ?
  16. I’ll get my pinny on the night before, see what delights I can come up with ?
  17. Feeding up again today, with the hand feeding we have been doing we are getting the birds where we want them, still nice and cold up there and the birds are looking all the better for it, I took my shooting buddy with me so he could do a bit of metal detecting while I fed up, he came across a couple of hammered silver coins that he seemed very pleased about, although cold it was dry and clear and as I’ve said before, there’s nowhere I’d rather be ? ( still can’t upload pictures)
  18. Another belter mate, you are with us on the 21st for the Christmas shoot, should be some good nibbles and a little Christmas cheer?
  19. As far as I know they are a Spanish / American company, Bergara are a Spanish precision barrel maker and an American company bought into them and started producing complete rifles in 2012, the yanks love them and I’ve seen a few reviews and they score highly
  20. So I’ve been looking into my new foxing rifle and I’ve found myself a new gun shop 20 minutes from me ( Bradford stalking at Chester-Le-Street) turns out they are very helpful, I’ve decided to go for the pard 008 lrf and a dtp mod ( as always) but I’ve been giving the rifle some serious thought, now the tikka .22-250 in lefty is £1150 and although a very nice rifle it is a lot of money for something that will be out in all weathers and is essentially a tool for a job, so I went and had a play with a few, first off was the Remington, this was a very nicely put together rifle and at £575 very ki
  21. Sausagedog is correct, there’s no age restrictions on shotguns, supervised up to the age of 15, not allowed to buy or rent one until 18, you can apply for a shotgun certificate at any age, a lad who is a member of my syndicate has had a shotgun certificate alongside his dads since he was 12 and was shooting 20’s and 410’s long before that, supervised of course
  22. They certainly got up yesterday and they have definitely learned how to use the wind, looking at the weather it’s saying very cold on a night and snow on the high ground by the end of the week, just what they need to keep them hungry and harden them off, it also helps that the cold keeps them in the cover so they don’t tend to wander as far
  23. It make it all worth while when you get a day like that, I’ll be back up hand feeding probably Wednesday, we have reached the time in the season where we know where we want the birds to be so it’s just a matter of getting them into the drives
  24. Well I don’t really know where to start with today on the shoot, what I do know is I’ll remember this day for a very long time, as I mentioned before my long time shooting buddy was having his first day out with me since he had his heart attack, now I paid for half a gun for him and gave him mine so he could shoot all day, when we arrived Hugo’s dad told me that he had paid for me to stand on team one with my mate because he thought I’d like to shoot with him ( a very thoughtful thing to do ), so one of the pictures is of my 2 favourite people, my shooting buddy and little Hugo, the first driv
