  1. Well me and my mate had a chat today and we think we will go ahead with the shoot this year, we came to the conclusion that for the shooting we get it’s not a lot of money, even if the guns get half the shooting they normally get it’s still 4 days for the price of 1 on the big estate down the road, something I need to find out is if next door a putting birds down because I don’t want them not to bother and think they can have a couple of ruff days by putting feeders on the boundaries, once we commit I’ll have to get my finger out because I’ve done nothing there for the last couple of months
  2. I think I must have one leg bigger than the other, it didn’t look that wonky when I was stood next to it ?
  3. Foxes can be released back into the wild because they are a native species although classed as a pest, it’s only illegal if they are a non native pest species I.e. the gray squizzer, like SD said if people are releasing urban foxes into the wind this should be classed as cruelty because you are placing an animal in an environment it is unlikely to survive in
  4. My mates little girl made me a cake for my first day at work ( even though I’ve worked for him for about the past 8 years ) she said her daddy had to be nice to me because I was helping him because he’s old now ? so he eased me in with some post and rail fencing, with 7ft posts that he wanted 3ft in the ground, just for a laugh I think, but it has been a lovely day and nice to be away from all the oil and grease ?
  5. My missus has called me a freak on many occasions, it’s sounding like I could be ideal for that job ?
  6. Do people pay for that, I normally get told to put some clothes on when I’m strutting about in my pants
  7. Good result ? I know what you mean about not wanting to call out to them, I’ve had them trotting along and not wanted to make a noise because you can guarantee they will do the opposite of what you want them to do, on more than one occasion I’ve made the decision to shoot them on the move
  8. Me and my mate will be making the decision on what will happen with our shoot over the next couple of days, I’m hoping to at least put a few hundred down, even if we don’t get a full season I’d like to think we could give the members a couple of good days
  9. A couple of my fave’s from last season’s shoot
  10. Well I’ve done it, I’ve left my mechanic job and I start out in the big wild world on my own tomorrow, fingers crossed ? I’ve made the right decision ?
  11. We used to have a load of multi coloured on the sheep farm, my mate mosh dropped half a dozen domestic in the yard and they did what rabbits do best, this was a good few years ago now but you still get the black one now and then and about a year ago I shot one that was half brown half black, as if someone had stuck two half’s together
  12. Hugo’s dad, in the woods cock in hand ?
  13. They really are as thick as sh*t ?
  14. Welcome when you are applying for an FAC be completely honest with every question as for calibre, that depends what you want it for and what the land is suitable for, if it’s for knocking rabbits over then 99% of people start off with the trusty .22lr been on a poultry farm I’m guessing you could be shooting fox so would need a calibre suitable for that every police force and person on here has their own opinions on what is best for you, the best thing to do is take all the information that is offered to you and make an informed decision from that good luck
  15. It’s nice to have a place where you can put a bit straw down or a bit of corn and draw in a few wild birds ( or someone else’s ?) and have a little walked up shoot, I’ve got a couple of places where I can have a walk around in the season and get a free go at duck, partridge and pheasant ?
  16. To be fare Derv this one has quite a few pictures in it, I’m sure you will be fine with it if you can make sense of some of the posts on here ??
  17. They are the type of times I wish I had taken pictures of, out ferreting and running dogs ?
  18. A bit of squizzer bashing while out feeding up at the shoot last season, A good bit of fun shooting from the quad
  19. Another 3 foxes first one is longshanx first fox with the .243, this one came charging in to the vixen in heat call, by the time he took the shot he could of kicked it in the face with them legs the second one is Hugo’s dad, up at the sheep farm, this one came from nowhere, with the wind behind use blowing towards the fox he took the shot in a split second and to my amazement he dropped it the third one is me up at the shoot, again with the vixen in heat call, I shot this customer running, it turned out to be a very big old dog
  20. Another thing I’ve started doing is feeding on straw under the cover of the trees, a keeper told me to do this because the fallow don’t tend to rake through it for a few grains of corn and it keeps the birds occupied, I’ve not been doing this keeping lark for very long but I’ve learnt a hell of a lot from all kinds of people involved with it
  21. We have had to box a lot of feeders in on the shoot, we used to put posts in the ground and strap them to them but the fallow just don’t stop until they smash them up, a least using 4 pallets they can’t get at them, since I’ve started doing a lot of the work up there I’ve saved them a fortune in feed, they used to use wooden feeders and the deer would just knock the lids off and help themselves
  22. On the low ground I shoot we have a lot of roe, up at the shoot on top of the north York moors we have a big head of fallow, I’m only allowed to take them from the fields as forestry manage them amongst the timber and we have an agreement that I must be selective which is only right, it’s been a long time since I’ve taken deer up there but that will change this year
  23. Another quality write up, we would expect no less from your good self ???
