Two days in and I’m going mental ( new book time )
Stavross replied to Stavross's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Is it your birthday ? by any chance and has someone been spoiling you ? -
My first question is, have you seen duck on it and has it got clear space for the duck to come in high or will you have to clear a bit of timber, if you have see duck coming in then spend a bit of time watching where they come from, feed the edges with corn and a few spuds ?

The missus has a black and white bag of sh*te not dissimilar to that training aid of your granddaughters, when she’s ready to move up to live quarry give me a shout and I’ll send the horrible little tw*t down to you ? ( free of charge of course )?
-
That’s what I do, got 2 .17’s, the browning has and mtc viper on it and the cz used to have a Yukon on it, maybe one day I’ll get round to fitting another nv to the cz

Sad times when an old friend has to go, but them baby ticktocks are lovely, the only rimmy I’ve used that has a feel of a centrefire ?
-
Young skinny ones grow into old fat one, like many of us ? only way to stop this is to drill them with some lead early on ?
-
I’ve just spoken to the nursery owner and they have the lad on camera robbing the grass, put his picture on Facebook and 4 people named the smackhead in 5 minutes, police have now arrested him and he’s admitted it, won’t get the grass back but at least they now know who he is and it’s not the first time he’s done it

How I do it is get the ground level with sharp sand, use decking boards around the edge to make a frame, just sat in the sand, lay the grass out and joint it with the glue and tape, then screw it to the decking board every 6” with 2” screws, once it’s down it needs a lot of kiln dried sand on it, the pile of the grass should always face the way you look at it and if you joint it the pile must run the same way on the glued edge ( almost sound like I know what I’m doing ? )
-
Yeah, some little buggers decided they needed it more than the kids, probably sat in the back garden of there scruffy house on it, drinking cheap beer and snorting there giro, hopefully the local paper will print it and someone will grass the little rats up
-
Nothing to do with any of this but thought I’d share it anyway, last week I put some fake grass down at a day nursery in a place called guisborough, now this place is opening for NHS workers kids and now they can’t go outside until we lay it again at more cost to the owner and half a days wages for me as it wouldn’t be right to charge them again, I wouldn’t want to be whoever took it if the owner of the nursery’s find out who they are, he didn’t build his empire by being nice to people, TW*TS I hope they get what the deserve?

It’s ok if you are shooting them in the area you want to bait, because it spreads them far and wide, a bit like putting cat food out ?
-
There would of just been 4 smoking paws ? if I shot them at that distance with the .243 ??
-
The bottom one was very close, maybe 25-30 yards, top one was a little further, maybe 50
-
Exactly, perfect tool for the job ??
-
Two cubs from the shoot, these were mooching along the edge of a small stream, there was a third that disappeared into the cover and the vixen was at the top of the track but went to ground, but two is a start, I’ll be up there Friday to see if I can bag a few more, I’ve left plenty of rabbits around the shoot on rides, so hopefully I can just hang around them and wait for them to come to me ? ( p.s. these were shot with the .17hmr mouse wrecker )
-
That’s heartbreaking, no one should have to go through that, especially at such a young age, both me and the missus have suffered loss due to cancer and our thoughts are with you at this terrible time
-
Money not a issue because it doesn’t cost me much and we do a charity shoot now and then, I was thinking maybe someone could offer a shooting opportunity or fishing in return for a days pheasant shooting, if I was to sell the day it would go for between £80 and £120 depending on if it was stand all day or shoot 1 beat 1, so that’s not a lot of money for where we shoot, I’ll have to have a think about it, I’ve plenty of time before January
-
Well I gave it a go for about 50 meters, give up and used this ?
-
Just sorted out the shoot days and it looks like I’ll have a day to offer in January, If it comes off I wouldn’t want any money for it but would like something in return, does anyone think this is a good idea, or should I just sell the day or shoot it myself
-
Post and wire fencing today out in the sunshine, bloke said he had a tractor if I wanted to load the old posts on to take up to the farm, this wasn’t what I was thinking ? I’ve got no idea how to drive in
-
I keep my fingers crossed for you all and hope it works itself out will I didn’t see them cubs again, so after shooting them a few more rabbits I’ve headed back to the farm, just in time to watch and listen to the woodcock flighting out to feed, I’ve shot a couple more half grown hoppers around the veg patch and a crow that was raiding the pheasant nests, the field is littered with egg shells
-
It’s the way forward si, I’m doing all sorts now, bit of fencing this week and laid 200 square meters of fake grass last week I have more time to myself now, so Ive came up to the shoot to sort a few rabbits out, I’ve just had a walk around shot a rabbit, went to pick it up and 2 cubs jumped up out of the wheat in front of me, I don’t know who was more shocked, me or them, theses are near the earth I found at the weekend, so a pile of rabbits should keep them entertained for a day or two until I come back
-
Bad news mate, I’m sorry to hear that, hopefully something good will come to you when all this madness is over with, I lost my mechanic job at the start of this and I’m now self employed, a bit more skint but a lot happier, take a bit of time to see where life takes you next ?
-
I use these off evilbay can normally pick them up for between £30-£35 ?
-
So I went back up to where I shot the chicken muncher last light, the lad on the farm next door trapped 2 cubs and I shot 2 last night that were mooching around the sh*t pile, no pictures because it wasn’t pretty with the .243 at less than 70 yards but a job that needed to be done ?
