  1. You can’t kill them all mate, you may of missed a few but you were not the only one, I know there was a fair few inexperienced guns there yesterday but Andrew has just told me the shot count and for 44 birds it’s mental, but everyone had a good day and that’s all that matters ?
  2. I always put mine along a fence line or around some trees, always well away from the public if I can, sometimes it’s a bit hit and miss what I catch on it, I’ll normally give it a week to 10 days in any one spot
  3. My missus would ring my neck if I was responsible for the demise of pet tree rats
  4. That really looks like a roe, I’ve never seen a young muntjac, I thought the ears didn’t look right, I retract my previous statement ?
  5. Late births are not uncommon in roe, but this this little chap is about 5 months late and sadly probably won’t see the winter out, they normally give birth the end of may beginning of June, I’ve seen them in late September but never in November
  6. They have been having a right old time of it Gav, those days are over now, you can really see the damage to the trees, I’ve never seen this amount up here, forestry used to trap them but they don’t seem to bother now, we will definitely be having a squirrel day once the season has finished and until then I’ll be making a conscious effort to shoot every one I see to top it off I got home and this little beggar was hiding his nuts in my garden, this is what you get when the missus feeds them
  7. Feeding up this morning and there’s still a blanket of low cloud, the birds have made there way back into the main drives and those that survived the barrage of shots yesterday are back on the feeders and seem none the worse for there experience, perhaps a little on edge and not wanting to hang around for a photo opportunity but who can blame them, with the next time we shoot been half way through our season we are now concentrating on feeding the long drives with the heavy cover that hold the majority of the birds, all we can hope for now it cold weather and a clear day next time out, but loo
  8. On the way home from feeding up, I’ve checked the camera for my little mates first fox and nothing but a hare and a couple of pheasants, the rabbit bait was still there so I’m guessing this ginger has bit the dust on its nightly travels, so I’m ether going to have to wait until another turns up or come up with another plan, I would prefer it to be here because I can afford a miss here, I’ve brought the camera away with me as the batteries were going flat, I might set it up on the bottom end of the land to see if that produces anything over the next week or so
  9. Up at the pheasant shoot to feed up and shot another 11 squizzers, the 5 in the picture were all shot outside the farm house on my arrival and all within 60 seconds , 5 quick shots, 5 dead tree rats ?
  10. Now that’s day three over and it was certainly a wet one, from the moment we got there the rain didn’t stop, 44 was the bag, I managed 8 myself and the rain didn’t seem to stop them getting above the trees, providing some nice sporting birds, everybody got some shooting which is always good to see, as we moved out to the back of the shoot the cloud lowered as you can see in the picture, that’s longshanx on the next peg to me, on this drive you could hear the birds coming long before you could see them, it was a early finish today, so all back down to the pub for a warm, a drink and a few nibbl
  11. Check the camera again tonight and one rabbit gone but nothing on the camera, so I’ve repositioned it on the tree and baited with another rabbit, it seems a bit hit and miss when the bait is going, I’ll check on Sunday and if the bait is still there I’ll have to come up with another plan for this young lads first fox, I was hoping to have it coming in regularly here because this is one of the few places I can afford for him to miss, but we will see what happens over the next few days
  12. It’s a lucky dip with farmers around here mate, the lads I do vermin control for around here only let me on because I’ve known them for a long time and in the past others that have been on have taken the piss, the best thing to do is knock on doors but be prepared to be turned down a lot, try stables, if they have rabbits they won’t want them around the horses, it’s not easy to get your own permission because farmers generally don’t let people on their land they don’t know, it’s taken me years to build up my land and 90% of it has come from working for the owners, sites like this sometimes hel
  13. Like meece said there’s isn’t a bad rifle, ( well maybe howa but that’s just my opinion, because they fell like a nurf gun ) I’ve never came across one that didn’t kill sh*t, it comes down to what suits you and what you want to spend, maybe go and handle a few, you might find what you like is different to what others like, failing that buy a TIKKA ?
  14. It’s always nice to have a bit of posh in the cabinet ?
  15. He’s a chunky fella, no doubt full of your ducks ?, at 10 meters with 50g of BB I’m surprised you didn’t cut it in half, job well done ?
  16. For me centre fire would be tikka, very accurate, reliable and cheap ( ish )
  17. A fine way to spend a bit of time before the rain sets in, I love the pictures you take, I don’t mean this to sound like I’m calling you old but they remind me of simpler times when people went out to feed themselves, friends and family, no night vision, thermal or any other gadgets, just a simple gun and an understanding of your environment, I’m glad I’m old enough to remember these days, even though I was just a lad ?
  18. I’m going to have to get one, I think I’ve reached the age where I carry one off now? I’ve just looked at the weather and I think I’ll have to dig out my oilskins
  19. Well it’s day three tomorrow so I’ve been up this morning for a bit of hand feeding around the drives to be shot tomorrow, they are about in good numbers and with this cold weather we have had the birds have come good and are looking very strong, one thing that will need to be addressed over the season and after is the squirrel problem, I have never seen this amount up here, I stopped off in the yard and counted 11 around 2 trees, so everyone will be told tomorrow if you see them, shoot them, the weather is looking terrible for tomorrow, much the same as the first day with the forecast saying
  20. That won’t of been me, I haven’t shot at range’s for years, there is another lad on here that used to shoot on them, not that long ago ?
  21. I’m from norton but live in Stockton now
  22. you will find me in the rifle and shotgun section mainly, rabbits, foxes, pest control for local farms and game shooting, have a look through the rifle section, there’s some good lads that post on there
  23. Yes, there is one or two of us ?
  24. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this on here before but a good few months ago a very good friend and my long time shooting buddy had a heart attack while out walking and had to be air lifted off the hills, since then he has gone back to work but has never been out shooting with me since he had his heart attack, he always said he was tired, but I always thought that a lot of this was he was worried that something would happen when we were out, anyway I’ve just got off the phone to him to see if he wanted to come to the shoot on Saturday 7th, I told him he could shoot all day if he wanted to and
