No chance of anyone going to feed in this weather today so off I went, I got there around 8:30 and with the weather the way it was the birds were still close to the pens, they have taken to the wheat, preferring to feed from the ground rather than the feeders, this is what I like as they hang around a lot longer scratting about for bits of wheat, once I’d done the two pens I had a ride through the main drives, the birds are spreading out a little further which they need to do now to fill out some of the other drives, like “ Oakwood” and “ Roadside”, we’ve also got a bunch of next doors partrid

A mate of mine paid about 400 quid for a smock and it leaked around the hood and trying to get it changed was a right carry on, he’s got a ridgeline one that’s half the price and had no bother with it

I can always tell when autumn is here when the pigeons start flocking up and I start seeing a lot of deer, where I’m working today is right next to the river Tees and it’s just a constant stream of woodies using the river as a flight line, the amount of duck is mental as well, might have a word with my mate because he has the land 800 yards up from here

? life in the bus lane now, it’s very different to my early 20’s, lost in a field, not quite knowing where I was ?

Yeah, it’s been brewed by Heineken for a good few years now, I used to work on the trucks at Heineken and john smiths at tadcaster and a few local ones to me, Cameron’s and molson coors, you used to get loads of freebee’s but that all stopped, Cameron’s Ruby Red was always a favourite from the brewery in Hartlepool

Old school, couple of bottles of dog ?

The thing is, if I’m left to it I like doing it and not wanting to blow my own trumpet but it’s 100% better than when I joined it about 12 years ago, before, when they did it as a syndicate they would put about the same number of birds down as we do now and would shoot about 40 on a good day but there were some really good shot there and they were killing almost everything that came out a drive, now it’s a proper mixed bag of shooting abilities and on a couple of the drives I can put 150 birds over the guns at a proper height, we aim for between 50 and 60 a day and much of this comes down to t

It’s starting to annoy me a bit now, the idea was that once the birds came I’d set out where to feed and 2 of use would do it, hasn’t quite worked out like that, I’m doing 300 miles a week just going there to feed, it’s going to have to change next season if they still want me to do it ? for a ginger or 2 tonight ?

Up feeding this morning due to the person who was meant to do it messaged me late yesterday to say he couldn’t go, no explanation, just, I can’t go, now I don’t like to go on a Sunday because it’s my day for food shopping and I like to take it easy, doing a bit of dinner and drinking tea, but it is what it is and to be expected, they all want to be involved until it gets in the way of something else they want to do. I arrived at approximately 8:30 and was greeted by a large number of birds on the tracks enjoying the first rays of morning sunshine, they are coming along well and are taking the

I normally do sloe gin but didn’t get any last year to do it for this year so though I’d give bramble a go because it only takes about 6 weeks

Love a jacket spud, just cheese and black pepper for me though ?

Chicken saag, without doubt the best I’ve ever made, griddle panned the chicken until it was almost black, really made a difference ? and a big corned beef and potato pasty ( pie not in a dish ) so that’s my bait sorted for half the week

Good read that, to go with my tea and flapjack ?

Right, I’m ready and I’m going in ?

Bramble gin on the go for a shoot day ?

I’m going to need a cup of tea to go with this one, but I know it will be good so you can have a thumbs up ?

Up at the shoot again last night and the weather has certainly changed, first time I had to put my winter jacket on, we were quite late when we arrived so it was a quick couple of rabbits around the farm and then straight over the piggeries ( tree side ) for a call. Moving position twice after only seeing pigs it was a good hour before I noticed a fox along the edge of the oilseed rape, with the caller on pheasant distress it entered the rape, disappearing from time to time, when it reached the middle of the field it stopped and seemed to sit, my mate was on the rifle and said “ should I have
