  1. Out at the sheep farm for a couple of hours tonight, on my own so I decided to go with the mouth call, when I got there the wind was coming in a direction I’d never seen before up there ( it’s always windy up there ) so I set myself up in the middle of a hedge back expecting if a fox was to make an appearance it would come from the top of the field in the direction of the wind, setting away with the mouth caller it was 20 minutes or so before a fox came through the hedge no more than 15 meters down wind of me, I clocked it through the thermal as it turned and looked at me, before running diago
  2. Birds are still looking good, we never got the amount of rain that they said we were getting so what we did get didn’t really bother them, they need to be out the pens now so all the pop holes are open and the wire has been lifted, they will be going on a bit of wheat after the weekend, I dread to think what that stuff is per ton this year, I didn’t dare ask on another note I’m in the good books with her indoors, she decided she needed to buy a small shed for her 2 pet rabbits ( I know, she’s 35 ya know ?) and I got volunteered to kit it out, even though she knows I hate doing stuff like
  3. The m18 is just a cheaper version of the m12, the components are slightly inferior to the m12, this in not to say it won’t kill things, there’s very few rifles out there that are not up to the job ( maybe HOWA ) it all comes down to what you want it for, like SL my rifles are a tool to do a job and I use tikka, 1 because they are nice to shoot once you have found a round that suits it ( very accurate) and 2 because they have market share over here, so if you have any problem with it a good RFD will have no problem sorting it quickly for you ( saying that, I’ve never had a problem with a tikka
  4. You can get what are called quick detach scope mounts that are meant to hold zero, I’ve never used them and if I’d changed a scope I’d always want to check zero before taking a shot at an animal
  5. I’ve got one of these on my tikka T3x lite in .243, it’s an unbelievable scope for the money, I paid less than this for it, it’s purely a day scope because of the coatings on the glass it won’t take an NV ad-on
  6. He filmed a bit of it, but most of the time he was spotting, calling or we were chatting sh*t, I know he’s got a geese shooting video to do first you are not far off there Dave, I had a few dodgy shots, I couldn’t get away with shooting off the frame on the back of the Land Rover it’s just pure jealousy Derv, I’ve had it all my life, whether it be because of my devilish good looks, shining personality or my willingness to help the less fortunate than myself ( I.e. Ben ?) I don’t understand why people can’t just be nice
  7. This is the first time I can remember that they have not gone in wet and now they have had 3 weeks sunning themselves, dusting themselves and filling their little faces I think they will be good for a bit of damp weather
  8. Feeding again today and it was bloody hot, the birds are looking fantastic, ( I keep thinking something will go wrong) they have done a pallet of feed in 3 weeks, they have slowed up in Gordon’s pen but they are out around the back of the pen filling there faces with brambles, I’ve still only had 2 dead in one of the pens and one of them got itself stuck in the wire, it’s made a massive difference with us having 3 weeks of dry weather since they went in, fingers crossed they keep going the way they are ?
  9. At least if she was born a scouser Ben would of saved a fortune on nappies because she would of went out and nicked her own ?
  10. Mainly reared but a good number of wild, probably going to be the geese isn’t it
  11. I thought I had a good weekend, but you have trumped me congratulations ? on the birth of your little English princess ?
  12. I know, but the tight northerner in me says duck, because it would be serious money to shoot duck on these ponds ?
  13. It was a proper red letter day for me FH will tell you how hard we work for foxes up this way, they were running around like rabbits down there I’ll have to flip a coin with the duck and geese, I don’t know what I’d prefer ?
  14. Well here we go with me little adventure I arrived at Mr Foxers at 5pm to a cup of tea in the garden with Mr and Mrs Foxer and little Miss Foxer after a catch up it was off out for a takeaway, suitably filled it was time to head out to meet up with Ric ( our fine driver and guide for the evening) and his custom freelander we would be shooting from. It wasn’t long before we were on our first 2 in the same field, taking a shot at the closest one to me it was a definite hit ( number 1 )but it made it through some thick cover and the other one was off out of sight, try as we may, we couldn’t
  15. Second hand tikka for that money if it’s a package you want for around a grand then Remington 700, good functional rifle, but a bit rattly or there’s the Howa 1500 if you need something to wack a fence post in, because there not much good for owt else ( just my opinion, I’m sure someone somewhere loves them ) I’d definitely look for a second hand tikka from a reputable gun dealer ? P.S why do you want .223 for long distance
  16. Just myself to feed tonight, so something quick, pasta carbonara ( proper one, no cream or wine ) ?
  17. Feeding again today and they are hammering the feed, they have been in coming up 2 weeks now and have done over half a ton of pellets, they are growing in confidence by the day, they are moving further out during the day with the poults from Gordon’s pen now making it to the cow field alongside the farm, so a couple of the members will have to do a bit of dogging in as at the minute I don’t want them that far out, over at the forestry pen they seem a little more settled and happy just to hang around the rear of the pen but it will not be long before these start heading further out into the ro
  18. Just a couple of hours at my mates place tonight on the lookout for foxes, I took longshanx with me to have a look for a deer as we wandered around in the hour before dark, we did bump one deer but the wind was all wrong and off it went, it was a good way off and did look like a doe through the bino’s, once we lost the light we had a call along the wood but no foxes showed, which was surprising as there’s normally a few kicking about once the crop comes down along the wood, so we called it a night, not before taking 2 hares off the front field, that I’m asked to do because of the problems they
  19. What, the woolly ones or the ones that come in pint glasses?
  20. Lovely place Masham, I hope you indulged in a couple of pints of the black sheep ? you will of past by my shoot heading to the Malton to Pickering road, I’m 5 minutes from Helmsley which you would of probably gone through unless your sat nav took you past the entrance to my shoot ?
  21. I thought better of you, you old soak ? It drives me nuts the amount of rubbish I find around the place, I can’t see why they just can’t take it home with them, the biggest thing that annoys me is dog sh*t in a bag, Your in the countryside you tw*t, there’s sh*t everywhere, just let your pointless little handbag dog sh*t in the woods instead of putting it in a plastic bag and hanging off a tree ?
