  1. Silver Just so long as you know what you are doing on the calibers, you are obviously one step ahead of most who, believing the bullet is identical in size seem to just assume the whole cartridge will be. (that could be a very painful and costly mistake) Take nothing away from Peter Lawman but if you get the chance go and see Peter Starley (Black Powder/Midway), he has a cracking gaff and Rangerover! Both these guys are good, most RFD are, but you are right..call first to make sure they have the stock and are available to see you. The price of their ammo would, in many cases make it w
  2. Flippin 'ek!!! That Bedlington has some amazing figures attached to it. Anyway ...I feel much better today, so as long as the weather holds I'm off to keep my ever demanding Game dealer happy this afternoon, so no more sad questions for a while. Thanks for the responses by the way. Deker
  3. Saturn Lord B Fox hunting lisence? No, def not! Legal to shoot deer? Yes 100%, in season and with an approved calibre rifle subject to permisions etc..... The CZ, great rifle for the money. There are better out there, Anchutz etc, but for this money you won't beat the CZ. I personally would go with the standard wooden varmint as oposed to synth but that is a personal choise. Lord B Absolutely correct, up until August 1st 2007 you did also need a Game Licence to shoot deer but that is now abolished! There are also situations where you can take deer out of season and at
  4. .177 for targets tell that to the rabbits, squirrels, pigeons, rats ,magpies, and everything else ive shot its a personal prefferance but ive shot .22 for nearly 20 yrs and ive just recently brought a .177 (8 months ago ) and i will never buy a .22 again but the rest of your advice isnt far off the mark. Didn't I say someone would shout... it's the general rule, simple as that you are allowed to aim .22 at a target and .177 at quarry...lets not confuse it even more by mentioning .20 or .25 eh!
  5. what about your own land by myself? Hell..... I should know, but I think you will find it's actually 18 now....... your land or not you must be 18 to go out on your own. Up until then you can hold a FAC and SGC but you cannot buy the guns or ammo yourself and must be accompanied when you are out. Someone will no doubt have the information at their fingertips and post it up but I think the 17 is now history. Cheers Deker
  6. Probably a bit sad (no actually very sad, but I've got a stinking cold, the weather is terrible and I'm not going out for a day or two yet ...so....) I just saw on Gamekeeping & Conservation the "catapults" thread. Some interesting stats: Started 29 May 2007 29 Pages 426 replies 20009 viewings does this one take all the records???? Cheers Deker
  7. Basic guidelines (someone will shout at me) .177 is for target .22 is for hunting. With your budget you will only be looking at "springers", there are plenty of Ok-Good ones about, Gamo and BSA are one and the same now but there are many more. Don't be tempted by ANYTHING made in China, they can appear excellent value for money...until you get them out of the box, and most of the Chinese struggle to make 8ft lb. You may also end up with iron sights at that price especially if you are looking at the new market. If you are looking second hand I would have thought that £1
  8. Ok ...sounds like the reticle is stuck BUT.... .......if its new did it come from a shop/dealer or from a market/website? These are distributed in the UK by AGS but they changed their name to Webley earlier this year, but the scopes are ok and competitively priced. It is however, well known that some fakes/immitations/seconds call it what you like make their way to our shores and are commonly available discounted at some "outlets". If it's brand new don't mess about too long just take it back!!
  9. Peterlawman.co.uk Black-powder.co.uk Midwayuk.com These are 2 companies but owned by the same person and sell factory ammo and reloading. I hope you are not bouncing around from 7.62 to .308 in the same chamber.......take a look at this...... http://www3.sympatico.ca/shooters/7_62vs308.htm
  10. Totally Agree.....the PCP (especially as mine is FAC) has made me lazy, but I know it, admit it and accept it. Once or twice a year I get out my old Airsporter but I can't hit a barn door with it anymore, so it's cleaned and oiled and put away again. It's 35 years old but in mint condition. Despite all this I think a 12ft lb springer is not only an excellent tool for teaching every lesson you need for target and hunting but is also a very capable tool. My lad has just bought the Gamo Shadow RSV and takes rabbits with it regularly. I have got a bit lazy and moved on a bit but the spri
  11. I have a Sako 222 and use Sako ammo, ammo a little on the expensive side but with 1/2 inch grouping at 200yds you just dont miss old charlie drops every time the trigger gets pulled. Have put most rounds through the gun with varied results even as bad as 2inch grouping at 100yds if you can call that grouping, but the sako ammo seems to suit my gun. I did think about reloading but doubt I'd be able to achieve the same results. hope that helps I'm impressed ...there are very few people I know that can get 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards with any gun or ammo, including me and I'm f**
  12. No luck as yet, rang sportsman who were to busy to talk to me, they promised to ring back and didnt. Will try and find time to ring GMK monday to see if they can tell me anywhere close that they have shipped them to recently. Moletrapper GMK.co.uk Email them.....they will usually get back in a day or two. Federal (GMK) and Winchester also make shotshells (probably a few others as well) Cheers Deker
  13. One of the joys of making sloe gin is that its EASY. (although pricking those Sloes can drive you mad) I find the cheap gin is very adequate, and the recipe is so easy to play with, adjust the ingredients each year to get your personal favourite texture and flavour. Personally I find a "Young" sloe gin to be a little harsh, limited body and thin colour, I always leave mine fermenting for at least a YEAR, by then the body, flavour, colour is like........... I was just going off on a Jilly/Oz moment then!!!! Anyway ...thats why its so good...we all make it the way we like it!!!!
  14. Make it September/October, whenever the Sloe is ready and leave the fruits in until NEXT christmas (about 14-15 months). Earliest you should remove the fruit is First Christmas (2-3 months). Try it.....First Christmas is ok, but if you can keep your hands off it long enough for next Christmas the difference is well worth the wait. With all the Gin and sugar involved there should not be any problems with anything being bitter unless there is a hygiene problem. Most peoples problem is with it being too sweet, but adjust the recipe a bit each year to your own personal preference! A
  15. Remmy Your 'avin a larf with me....... "like shooting an air rifle" ...now..... first off I haven't the first clue about loading...and even if we could find a legal way of getting some of these air rifle .243 rounds across the border I don't have the .243 to test them in anymore, that went today, remember I said it was going. However my .308 DOES kick, can you turn that into an Air rifle...and what if anything is available for my girlie little .223? Cheers Deker I can't see.... but please don't tell me thats the 5.5-22x56NXS or I may go a shade of green
  16. Ok...personal view.... a .25 FAC air rifle will cost a fortune and be of very little use. A 12ft lb .25 is a superb ratting gun but thats about it! If you want something with more power that hits harder just get a .22 rimmy and use shorts/long/shotshells/or subs (will give you about 30ft lb upwards). This will give you a lot of scope, be far more consistant than a .25air rifle and of course cost a hell of a lot less!

Oi...give it a rest...you trying to take over...only been on the site 5 minutes and 11 post already!!!!!!! And whilst most peoples 12ft lb guns are not quite there, when you are only talking 12ft lb, 10 is a big % short, nevertheless, and in principle you should be able to do anything with 10 that you can with 12, but 12 is a little easier. Anyway, I don't get the chance to shoot many pigs but I get an adequate supply of squirrel, rabbit, deer (even fox - hey do I know...stew??? )...you have any interest in a bit of trading? PM me if you want a chat. Cheers Deker PS
  18. If you want to shoot rats for a bit of fun or even professionally almost any .22 calibre multishot at full 12ft lb power will do, hollow point are best, then wadcutter then domed. If you are really serious about stopping rats with an air rifle you will need a Theoben Rapid in .25 with a 12 shot mag running at 12ft lb. The smaller calibres, the .177, the .20 and even the .22 will commonly go clean through and ratty will often run away to die in your drains etc. The .25 hits like an express train and ratty rolls over dead. Problem is the .25 has an arc like a rainbow so you really need to k
  19. The above that i cut was from a current legal database and that is the current legislation regarding section 1 firearms and ammunition and as you can see the definition it gives seems to include the shotshells mentioned as not being section 1 ammo.....................therefore not requiring a FAC to purchase/possess Compo This is an interesting question and as I admitted I don't know the answer. I also appreciate your response and I'm not disputing it at all..... BUT, an awful lot of the 68 is now dead and buried...are you sure this bit is still current...don't get me wrong, I'm
  20. F*cked Up Beyond All Recognition(Spelling) Them mags are the dogs danglies, how much you selling them for,if you decide to sell some?. FUBAR Thats one of a couple of minor variations of the phrase....but now you've let everyone join the club!!!
  21. i take my hat of to u woodga would love to have ground that holds that amount of rabbits, I think that says it all, most reasonably fit people with a bit of knotted string and a couple of polecats could get hundreds of rabbits ....IF THE LAND HAD THEM! This is a great thread, with great pics and comments but big bags can only ever happen if a number of circumstances come together. Now, I don't ferret but I have people I use if I need them, I'm a shooter, and been doing if for 35 years, up until recently the best I'd ever done with squirrels was about 10 or 12 in a day. Th
  22. I don't know..you boys..far to much time on your hands, how's the ferrets, you got a 4x4 yet? (how's Dad?) Deker
  23. You are a brave man..try saying that on the Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control forum ...and then duck! the rat popultion in greater london alone is appx 8000.000 so if they know someting the home office does'nt, tell em to get in touch. im sure their ideas would be welcome. Now you are getting a little silly and showing your nievety, we are talking pig farm according to you and I suspect the original post was not referring to London. Regardless of that I and many many others could eradicate the rat from yours and any other farm. If you want to be stupid I could also
  24. Looks like you could do with some help....perhaps I need to come and see you sooner rather than later....How are the Fox and Deer your way...(what sort of Deer do you have down there)...OH YES... do you have any Hare? The only place Hare appear in Berkshire is in peoples immagination. Cheers Deker
  25. Mixxy is evil and I don't remember the last year I didn't see a case. It also tends to come and go quite quickly and often with devastating results. I have only seen Mixxy on 2 of my sites this year and my rabbit total for the year to date is 564, but there are a lot less of them about now as you would expect. Deker
