  1. Foxdropper Thats great to hear the police are giving you some money back, that must be a first..I wonder if anyone else may be able to get a refund...Blimey..they will not be happy with me if everyone demands their money back. Foxdropper/Foxhunter.. and many more.. It has been said before but what twat decided the Roe should be elevated to such heights, he obviously had no idea about ballistics, my .223 is listed for Roe in Scotland as well...the world has gone mad!!!! Cheers Deker
  2. Please no not take this as a personal insult, criticism, slur upon your intelligence or in any other way be offended..it is purely my personal observations based on a lot of night shooting using a lot of different equipment with a lot of different powers of guns over a lot of terrain...I do not know it all and I have not used everything on the market As usual there is no simple answer... £5000 worth of the latest military nightvision wins every time..but we are not allowed it and not many can afford it...and then what do you do in the daytime...bit tiresome to keep swapping scopes
  3. Touch, mount and try as many as you can before you buy...if you are new to this you will not know what fits and doesn't. After you have mounted a few you will hopefully pick one up and say..thats the one.. you will know! Don't rush this process whatever the temptation, and don't let the dealer push you into anything...they want to sell what they have on the shelf generally! Good luck!
  4. "and 223 bullets are in serious demand, could be a big shortage coming up as it is a military round and the us army are 1.5billion short at the moment Just to help clarify this one a bit (I HOPE) We know the "civil"round as a .223REM and the "military" as 5.56 Military. (check what is marked on your brass) They are NOT the same and the military do not use the civil round, however the military manufacturers also make civil ammo, so if they have to put all their production into military then we may simply get a shortage of .223 (doesn't mean the military are using the .223) but any
  5. Good point and good idea..depends on individual scope mounting height as well. Always a good idea to remember this one but it works best the other way round (so when the weather improves check it out)...ie primary zero at say 100 yards (whatever you want), and then check and note where your first zero occurs. Once you have done this and as long as you do not change ammo, scope, moderator, etc you can theoretically alway set your 100 yard zero at the much shorter distance. I use this system for all my guns from air rifles to centrefires, very useful....... but now everyone knows a littl
  6. I tend to rather agree with this...I've enjoyed Hugh in the past and liked his series, but this is very obviously TV and money, stir up controversy and make a programme people will argue/comment on....it gets the publicity..and the viewers and the advertising and everyone makes a few £££££. We all know TV is about making money but this was pure commercialism...sorry Hugh..not good! Cheers Deker
  7. Hi Foxdropper Not a great deal but it tends to have a hint more grunt, a slightly wider choice of manufacturers, models and ammo; and the ammo is a lot cheaper! I also use mine a fair bit on the range as well as in the field and I get 55g/62g FMJ between £14-£16 per 100. That's why I went for the .223. We still don't know what tommymc wants to do with it though! So, although you would not notice much difference in the field the .223 edges the performance and then the running costs wins it for me! Cheers Deker
  8. Whilst we are on this one I actually took a Muntjac this afternoon with the .223 55g HP. F**k me...70 yards away... I was on the edge of the woods and he was stood there in the clear pasture. Presented perfectly for the heart shot....obviously went clean through but was going so fast AND missed ALL the ribs...was the cleanest hole I have seen for ages, simply too soft and too thin a body for the HP to expand properly. I couldn't even find the entry and exit until I skinned it! AND I NEED A .243 TO SHOOT A ROE!! F*****g Joke... sorry but I really do think the Roe business is taki
  9. Hi Foxdropper....I'm confused...if you simply had the deer added to an existing .22 centrefire you had listed for Fox etc it should have been free anyway. Perhaps it's those Wilts Coppers trying to make a fast buck!
  10. All .22 centrefires with minimum of 1000ft lb, Expanding or Soft point minimum 50g.....so the Hornet will not make it. Its all listed in the latest edition of the BASC magazine! Cheers Deker
  11. CCI rate their 17g .1 and .2 inches high at 50 yards and their 20g .3 inches high at 50 yards for a 100yard zero. www.cci-ammunition.com So SNAP SHOT has a very close mean average!
  12. The risk of contracting many diseases (NOT ALL) is nothing to do with EATING the infected animals. It relates to breathing in infections to the lungs or more commonly being infected directly through the bloodstream....open wounds or bites. You will not get rabies by simply walking past or even touching and infected animal/person. I am not a doctor so do not quote me on all diseases/illnesses, this is just the most common way of contracting many!

I think locked and serious vetting but..... I don't think it will make any difference unless you are VERY VERY VERY STRICT with membership arrangements and checking but that will be almost impossible so seems a bit of a waste of time when it only takes a couple of minutes to become a member. The world is too easy to crack and in the end what benefit could a locked forum actually achieve?
  14. You do not say what you want to use it for but a quick response would be, go .223 and neither of those you mentioned. .223 Bigger choice of guns/manufacturers .223 Bigger choice of ammo .223 Better choice of stockists .223 Cheaper ammo than .222 or Hornet .223 Can also be used for CWD & Muntjac (Hornet cannot) .223 Will do anything the others can as well or better! Probably a few other thing as well. Cheers Deker PS .223 55g or 62g FMJ £14-£16 per 100 55g HP £18 per 100 (you will need to hunt around and maybe drive a bit, but I was quite happy to drive about 5
  15. Many of you will be pleased to hear the following...... The Police have been swamped with variation requests to add CWD and Muntjac to appropriate calibres. So..ACPO have just issued guidance to save all the admin...if you have Fox and vermin on your FAC and your rifle meets the legal requirement you can now automatically shoot the 2 smaller deer. The exemption will run for up to 5 years and each case will then be assessed at renewal or variation, when a decision will be made as to the certificate holders continued good reason to shoot these species of deer. 17. You have every right to be pleased with a headshot bunny at 140 yards...that is a f*****g long way with the HMR. Everyone spouts off about 150-200 yard shots but I suspect very few of these people have ever fired one. At that range they are beginning to tail off quite quickly and are very prone to gusts of wind anyway. Good shot that man!
  18. Must get myself a phone with a Camera.. Went out about 15.00 yesterday...slow start, nothing around so ended up in the woods with 5 squirrel, beginning to think about going when Charlie turns up, Bang! Small but good condition..then a bunny, only seen about 3 all day, then a Roe and then another Fox. Went home about 17.50. Excellent start to the year. Just been out again to another site and come back with nothing but frostbite...Snow tomorrow I hear! Cheers Deker
  19. I'm biased because I have a FN19RS...but I did consider the Logan 16 before I bought it, I made the right decision!
  20. See "What Can I shoot???" in Important topics immediately above this. This outlines the legal position but just like speeding, etc, etc,.... if you do it, it's down to you....... just don't complain if you get caught!
  21. The theory is if this is a dedicated "Skeet" gun it will have a short barrel and be very open. Not necessarily ideal for Sporting or Hunting (or any other disciplines either) GMK are UK the importers so you could have a word and see what they know, or even try Berettas website, Beretta USA could also be useful as they end up with a lot of Specials/limited editions! Cheers Deker
  22. I know this is about a S410 Carbine in .177 but my .22 Falcon has always performed brilliantly with AA Field in 5.51 and Bisley Magnum; H&N FTT has been another good one...but whichever way you look at it domed pellets will tend to be the most consistent and are most commonly used for "hunting". Of course ALL barrels are different ...even in exactly similar guns, and breech loading systems can also have an effect on pellet choice. Power of the gun has to be considered as well. These JSB sound interesting that mole catcher etc are talking about..must be about the only pellet I
  23. Have a look on here, you should see a few advertised so you will get an idea.... www.guntrader.co.uk
  24. The twist rate (produced by the barrel rifeling) does not have any effect on the bullet weight! 1-8 means a complete revolution of the bullet in the barrel in 8 inches, 1-9 means a complete revolution in 9 inches. 1-10, 10 inches etc etc. So a 1-8 is quite a tight twist and a 1-12 is quite gentle. Individual calibres and bullet weight, size and speed need different twist rates to optimise performance, stabilise the bullet as much as possible and therefore maximise range and accuracy. Sir Alfred George Greenhill worked out the twist rate formula....this is the time honoured formula ever
  25. Have a look at this,,,http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-countryside/vertebrates/gen-licence.htm I think you will find that Starlings are not on the list of shootable birds these days. A little research before shooting is the best way to stay on the right side of the law. http://f4bscale.worldonline.co.uk/starling.htm speedystu Many people are unaware what is allowed but the "management" have thoughtfully pinned some helpful info above.
