  1. Mr L, i will certainly think about it. I think i asked for 300/200 but im not sure, but they knocked me back to 100/150. Its only for foxes mind, so i cant really see me needing a great deal of amma, and the local plod will probably think the same. Back to the original thread, i thought what he was asking was excessive, but maybe not after all. The best thing he can do is ask for a maximum number and let the old bill juggle the numbers. cheers trappa Trappa Mine on the .223 is the same as Mr L, actually it's true to say his is the same as mine now, long story, but he waved my
  2. if you hit it in the right spot with any calibre it will go down but i think you would be better with .177 less pellet drop so easyer to use. I'm impressed.... the phrase most commonly used is "the .177 is more accurate than a .22". This of course is not necessarily correct over a given distance. You are absolutely correct in that (assuming the same power for each) the .177 is flatter in flight! This .177/.22 business will probably go on long after we are all dust, both have the power to stop bunnies but you tend to have to be more accurate with the .177, simple really, it
  3. I always make a point of informing the police whenever I am shooting an area I may be seen by Joe Public. This does not mean all shoots by any means. It's not as bad as you think and the Police know me well, a URN can last 3 months...so make sure you tell them you will be shooting the site for 3 months, saves calling them every time you go...at the end of the 3 months just call them again and renew it for 3 months. Also remember ONE URN can cover ALL your sites, so tell them everywhere you shoot...easy really.....when you renew they will still have all your details on file so it's
  4. Martin and sean im not saying the claims are right or wrong, and yes who shoots at 100yds not me. Im only passing on what was on site about jsbs heavy. There are lots of questions to be asked ,and the answers are on that forum, obvious really. But im not having deker swear and abuse me on forum without getting it back ?all the best . AL Big Al It seems that others understood what I was getting at...if you are not aware, CAPS LOCK is deemed shouting, and your attitude was derisory! Hence my response...if you didn't understand where I was coming from then hopefully you do now
  5. Come on Wilf...that is a very narrow view of a very small minority! (although I do accept it does unfortunately happen). I am a shooter....end of... but I do not stand around with a Purdey waiting for someone to scare a captive bread Pheasant into the sky....I have no interest, and see no pleasure in that at all, but I do accept there is a market for this type of shooting and it helps support the industry. I take the Piss relentlessley out of the Ferret and Dog boys...because I can, I have several mates who I call on when I need a hand with dogs and ferrets, and they take the piss out of
  6. JSB are fine..many would say very good..... What do I think....I think I would like to know how they have managed to keep the same zero with a heavier pellet?? I would also like to know what power they suggest to achieve 100yard shots!! PERHAPS THE HEAVIER PELLET HAS A BETTER BC ?GO ON TO SITE AND YOUR QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED.ITS OBVIOUS REALLY It's very simple....you asked what do you think guys? I replied with a very sensible response..especially as you had not posted a link..just a web address and I couldn't find the thread...I note I was the only one as well..if y
  7. Not used the Browning A Bolt, but I'll be at the Game Fair this weekend, see if I can get my hands on one!
  8. Moderated SG's are becoming more available but I've never used one.....are they good..moderation wise, what about balance???
  9. JSB are fine..many would say very good..... What do I think....I think I would like to know how they have managed to keep the same zero with a heavier pellet?? I would also like to know what power they suggest to achieve 100yard shots!!
  10. Simple explainaition..... Bullet leaves barrel rotating and gasses leap out of the barrel causing muzzle flip (commonly upwards) or twisting the barrel, a correctly made and fitted muzzle break directs blast gasses out evenly, up down, sideways to prevent/reduce this flip effect and make the shot more accurate. Also tends to reduce muzzle flash, not as well as a flash guard, and can actually look incredible at night..but so do most rifles/shotguns...just let go a 12g at night and it will look like a flame thrower!! The muzzle break really showed it's worth shortly after the introduction
  11. Looking at your signature...why..or don't you have a SGC for the Riz that you suggest you have!!!! Try your closest Police Station or simply sit back, let your fingers do the walking round your keyboard and download one!! Some RFD also carry the forms!!
  12. With regards muzzle breaks as mentioned in the preceding post...they should be banned, except on an air rifle or rimmy...if you have stood anywhere near a half decent centrefire you will know why, the ground shakes, your head is knocked off your shoulders, the neighbours (5 miles away) come screaming and the wildlife all moves to another county!!! Just my opinion of course.....
  13. Not a common thing to do, but perfectly legal and mounts available as has been said. I avoid using the SG during the hours of darkness, simply because the noise can travel for miles, tend to stick to the rimmy or centrefires (all moderated) at night. But it's up to the individual and the situation!
  14. You really need to lighten up.... and if you can't work out that the BDS looking after 5 deer species is a comment about the BDS I rest my case...and if you don't want me to respond to personal comments about me then don't make them! It's nothing to do with nit picking...so a new member joins the site ..reads the post and end up with a big debate with his mates because he says we have 5 species of deer in the uk...must be true as I read it on THL. That will be really helpful to everyone!
  15. Looks like we pretty much ALL have the same opinion of the BDS...that must say something...!!!
  16. For "shooting in a Barrel"...there is some information on the FAQ section here as well.
  17. Dicehorn Help me out with these 5 Deer species, I'm confused as we have at least 6 in the wild! There are suggestions of other small populations of escapees as well ...... So which 5 do the BDS promote the welfare of???
  18. Never used Patch Out but I suspect it is much the same as many other cleaners. Breaking in a barrel is a very debatable subject and you will get a lot of opinions. "Will I be able to start again and re break the barrel in or have I lost the opportunity by not doing it straight off?" You already are doing it...breaking in a barrel is a combination of shooting and cleaning so you can't start again..you can continue in a different way and/or with different materials but you can never start again once you have started.. What is patch out? If it is still dirty I suggest it needs a m
  19. I admire them a lot for the simple reason they are very good at what they do..that's why we see so many these days, but they are a real pain in the butt!! On the whole they are not easy to get out in the field, in many cases your best bet may well be the back garden. Whilst many of my landowners have different quarry preferences, every single one wants the Magpie removed!!
  20. You boys.....!!!! It's incredible what you can do with a sharpened pencil after a bit of practice Nearly had me going there until you mentioned Remington, mind you I didn't see the little Pixie running out and punching Mr Logics Target...but it was very dark by then and I could hardly see the white of the target, let alone the bull! Now then...what did I do with that 250 yard target I shot with my 12ft lb air rifle......????
  21. I have the pre meeting report from Deloitte, a very thick document which covered things up to about the middle of June I think....the figure clearly stated then, officially was £50M (KNOWN at that time). The report also makes some very interesting reading about how the business had been run as a private enterprise/investment, short term big return money lending operation. The debts really started mounting up behind the scenes as is were....and I still don't believe half of the story that has been put forward, but the debts are enormous!
  22. You can buy a bore size guide, but I would simply take it to your local RFD and ask him to stick his in for you and check A number of fixed choke guns also have the choke size stamped into the metalwork somewhere, have a good look around for any and all marks on the gun! Don't know much about the Baikel specifically so I can't tell you where to look!
  23. So what would you suggest for long range rabbits; choke and cartridge advice please! (Assume 12bore)
  24. So...just about any choke you like... but that really IS the answer... ..........depends what the land is like, what the crop/grass/ploughed field/woods/distance/weather/season/age/sex is, etc, etc, no mention made here of barrel length or cartridge type either, or even bore, all of which will effect your choke choice, so too will the ...for the table or for vermin control question?
  25. Hi Remmy Good going ... .......you can't stop playing with that gun can you, looks good though, help me out with this "duracoted" business, where did you get that done and what sort of money are you talking about (and time)? Cheers
