  1. Hi mate what type of shooting do you do I do a bit of picking up with my lab and some roughshooting & lamping. I'm only down the road from you

    Cheers

  2. On a very large local estate there is the usual four Saturdays of roost shooting to try to keep the wood pigeons away from the rape crop. This is a long established program at the estate and usually carried out by estate workers and residents, however for the last could of years Fursty Ferret and I have been able to take part, due to his work that takes him onto the estate regularly and his good relations with the estate staff. I get to scrounge a gun as his mate. We have been in the same wood for the two years so know exactly where to go. It is a small wood of a couple of acres and next t
  3. Fursty ferret & I had a cracking afternoon roost shoouting on Saturday. got to the wood just before 3pm and about 100 pigeons took off as we walked in. Was quiet for a little while then they started to come in odd ones and twos. After a while there were a few bangs going off in the copses and wood all over the area. Once the pigeons had been stirred up a bit they were coming into the wood in groups of up to twenty at a time. Whish was great fun. We have been a couple of times so far in Feb. Last week was a bit slow due to fog but with a nice breeze this week they came
  4. Saturday 03/10/09 1st Duck Day Met up 08:30 as usual 1st in car park, I had brought my mate Martin as guest for the day as I was shooting another’s gun, so I had invited Martin to shoot my gun. The usual ritual of the first day meeting with guns and picker’s up arriving in dribs and drabs. Finally drew pegs at about 09:20, Drew peg 14, Martin drew 16, jumped in Phil’s Landrover for the day, Phil and Glyn had drawn 13 & 15 so we were all together, which was handy as the top four guns (of 16) were to act as beaters with guns moving up 4 positions at each drive, with the
  5. If you clear them they will come. nature hates a vacuum
  6. Why is everyone so tetchy? Surely with all the antis, and townies around we have enough to contend with without unnecessary bitching and back biting amongst ourselves. Do I sense some sort of off site history and agendas?
  7. Done all of the above. Traps set to a hair trigger-nearly had my fimgers off a couple of times setting them. Holes are usually tight and I have been packing then. I tamp the floor of the runs down with before placuiing the traps and remove all debris. All by the book, but no good. I went back last night and lifted the traps because the gardener had mowed the area and destroyed all the sticks marking the traps in the process. Also no fresh sign of activity - hopefully all the rain has drowned the sod. The tunnels really do seem to be really complex, I'm wondering whether he has broken
  8. I'm new to mole trapping abut have been doing a school near us. Just two areas had mole problems in visible places (public school, like their lawns smooth). My mate and I managed to clear 14 moles from these two areas in a couple of weeks and they are now clear. The problem I have is that there is one mole on a small area of grass that is driving me nuts. The tunnels are in a very tight area but cross over and under each othe all the time . Some are just under the surface and others 10 inches or so below. They seem to intersect each other too. As its a small area I've not put too many traps
  9. I joined after reading an article on mole trapping in this month's The Field. quick resopnse and seems OK. I've had a few traps from the TrapMan and theyr'e OKfor my use , but as an amateur starting out with one school & golf course who would you guys recommend for traps?
  10. My mate and I have been rabbiting on a permision near us and they asked us to have a go at the moles too as they were making a mess along the entrance to the property. Anyway, we've be trapping for about a week with no success. i reset an moved a few traps on Thursday ebvening and my mate went to check them this morning:- 4 moles but the best bit is two in the same Duffus trap coming in from opposite ends. I'm new to it but my mate is an experienced pesty and says he's never seen it before, It sounds bizarre as moles are so solitary I'm told. If I can remember how to do
  11. I've got:- 12 baby rabbits 11 little squirrels 10 jackdaws 9 feral cats 8 lively mink 7 wood pigeon 6 wild boar 5 rabid dogs 4 collared doves 3 cuddly foxes 2 big crows and a partridge in a 'kin pear tree Anyone got any land I can release them on?
  12. An old Miroku 12b fixed chokes 1/2 & full. Shells were the gregs of my game season so mix of 30 & 32g 6's Rio and Clear Pigeon. Ended up using a handful of 30g 5's Hull. (my favourites so far forpheasant) Didn't have to break into my last boxes of 32g % high pheasant cartridges. A trip to the gunshop is required before my next outing. Cheers
  13. Had a day off yesterday so went to a local farm with my new deeks, hide and eezy wobblers. Set up on a bare field between 2 woods with 10 deeks out. 2 pigeons in fisrst couple of hours then they just went nuts coming in fitsa and starts at first then sometimes 20 or 30 at once, didn't know wher to shoot. ended up with 23, Learned a few things too - e.g don't make the hide too small and keep still until the last second. Good fun though, definitely hooked now. Next time I'll take the camera
  14. yes I do the same, better now they are green sometimes sun catches on shiny bits. Wife wonders how her props keep getting so muddy haha I found some re-usable camo tape on Ebay, used it yesterday to wrap the silver bits - no shine at all. Best the material sticks to itself as its sort of rubberised stuff, so no adhesive, can reuse it for ever. brill
