  1. I know where you're coming from. I've been told that I have too many guns but ive got them and have set a precedent to have them and as such I keep them. From the forums it comes across as if over here we are treated as subjects and have no guns but that isn't quite how it is. Sure they banned handguns and auto rifles ect but apart from a fun shooting aspect most didn't have a sensible purpose. We live in a very populated island and space is small. We can have weapons but the person that wants them has to show various things, like.... what purpose is the gun for. E.g. sporting, target
  2. 4895, 4895, 4895, 4895, 4895, 4895. Oh how we loved it. How we miss it's passing. Still I've got a bit laid by. I ain't got my back against the wall but 4895 developed a high energy which isn't matched by comparable burn speeds. H4895 has a very high specific energy rating for a single-base powder, at 4,060 KJ / Kg which isn't matched by comparable burn speed powders. Still I built this load so I'm sure I can assemble another match given time, money and effort. I think Wilson does Lovex powders which might be similar. sea water freezes at about -2○C ...Google.?
  3. If boar are in this area for that many years either somone is actively reducing the numbers or there are a lot there. If they are in residence it will be noticeable. Fields and orchards will be turned over like they have been plowed.
  4. Those groups are tighter than the other previous groups. I used to use targets like those but I changed over to using simple orange target dots about an inch in diameter on the back of old plain wallpaper. I drove two stakes into the ground and cut pieces off about 2 feet long and stapled the paper to the stakes. These wallpaper targets could be written on and taken along to many days of tests and the results compared on the one shèet. I stopped using those targets with all the box grid lines because the lines get confused with the bullet holes. The Orange dot was the target and at 100
  5. Beastly snow. Down this far south we hardly get any and if we do get a bit, it's generally gone in a couple of hours. It snowed for about 2 days the other week but it fell as sort of sleet slush stuff and didn't make much more than about half an inch. I can't say that I've ever gone out rifle testing laying down in the snow but been out foxing in the snow. I've found that it is pretty much a waste of time trying to shoot in the snow with a lamp when the snow is falling. Different thing with a shotgun such as roosting ect. I was surprised at the narrowness of a shotgun pattern when a rabbit
  6. Don't be concerned about the paint on the wall or sound quality or having a load of different guns. I'd rather have one gun which I knew that I could take out a rat at 100 paces with consistently and reliably with one shot than spray and prey with a truck load of random guns of dubious ability. As you previously stated in an earlier post about people won't lay out the dollar for high end stuff is probably why Remington went bust and CZ have just bought Colt. It's also the same reason that we find that American 22 ammunition is so unreliable and inaccurate. Still it's all good fun and th
  7. When I was in my teens probably 18, I shot a squirrel with my 410 and I took it home to show mum. The next day after dinner she asked my brother and I what we thought of the small bit of meat that was separate on the plate from the chicken. We both said that it was nice. We both asked her why the question. She replied that she'd skinnned the squirrel and cooked it up for us to try.!! When father was up the jungle in Burma, they didn't have anything to eat so they ate snakes, iguana and monkeys of some sort. Mind you he came back a different bloke than the one that went out there. H
  8. on that life below zero from the wilds of Alaska, trap and eat them. along with pelts and other. they recon their good eating. I suppose its like most meat. it depends on how old the animal is as to how good eating it is. I expect that if it was just dished out on a plate and you weren't told what it. was then you'd probably say it was good. from google >>>>But as for flavor, beaver is known for having a very pleasant taste. It is often compared to grass fed beef. Some people claim beaver meat is lean while others say that it has a pleasant amount of fat.
  9. Oh how this takes me back to the weeks and months out on ranges and the field loading and testing numerous powders and bullet combinations to come up with best loads for my rifles. This setup you have is really good. I had a chronograph but no direct communication with the target end. We used a pair of walkie talkies with the spotter standing out to the side. I used to use the back a roll of wall paper and put stickers onto it so as to keep all of the data in one place for comparison. god knows how much I spent on all of this stuff. I quite agree with KIM E in that I think that You were
  10. Could be the wind. I've heard very similar sounds on Fox calling download sounds...... which don't sound like any natural noises I've ever heard. If you go and lòok at Foxes calling sounds and trawl through I'm sure that you will find similar noises.
  11. I notice from the news that most of the US is under a winter storm and that even parts of nortern Mexico are frozen and under snow. How ìs this weather affecting creatures like alligators and these turtles that are frozen in.?
  12. How thick is that ice? What do those things eat.? When we went to Mauritius in the Indian ocean there were a few tortoises at a sort of zoo which were several hundred years old and were pretty large. Kind of prehistoric looking creatures.
  13. Hi. I've been to Turkey 3 times on annual holidays. Twice to Kushadasi and once to Side. When we were in Side I asked at the hotel about clay pigeon shooting and they asked if I wanted to shoot someone ?? after reassuring them that I didn't want to shoot anyone they had a conversation amongst themselves and decided to call the sports federation in Ankara about it. There didn't seem to be any clay pigeon shooting available in the area but a young porter at the hotel said that there were a couple of gunshops in Manavgat which wasn't very far away. The porter drew us a street map of where
  14. My spaniel is very partial to a bit of curry especially over cold greasy dogo biscuits and dogo chunks! both my sister and brother have entertained semi tame Charlie's that seem to come and go and come back some months later. You mean that the Fox has a more refined palate than you.? ????
  15. Unless he lives in braemar in Scotland it is not -23c. And that was only overnight. Down south we were forecast for heavy snow and high winds. Yep the forecast was correct, we did get some snow and wind but the snow was wet slushy stuff and didn't amount to much.. every day the sun has come out and the snow has melted. Not very warm but hardly suitable for freezing. Slight concern about storing frozen food in aluminium loñg term due to inter reaction especially if the food is acidic and corrosion of the ally. Stuff that you buy in those ally coñtainers from the chinky ain't ment for long t
  16. Shortening a barrel can result in differing effects. One of the worst unknowns is how the barrel harmonics are going to be effected. There may be no noticeable difference but a gun that is accurate can be altered so that is F'd. when fired a barrel whips and the bullet needs to exit the muzzle at the mid point of the whip oscillation to be the most accurate and consistent. At one time there was a device like a threaded tube that could be used to tune a barrel to the sweet spot. I added a silencer to my 223 which when fitted converted it from a near one hole group at 100 paces to a gun that
  17. IF THAT IS TRUE and not fake news it is a bit crazy. It's a bit of an unforced error in public relations. When news like this gets out into the public domain you are blowing a trumpet to all of the do gooders and antis out there. They will come down an demonstrate outside which will be front page news.
  18. Of course they are. The lunatics, weak of mind, conspiracy theorists and weirdos are still going to be making pointless unfathomable statements when it comes round to the next election. The thing being is that the world keeps spinning and night follows day and when the next big news story comes along all of this nonsense will have no bearing on anything. Last year we had Brexit with all the fun and games inside and outside parliment with endless votes in parliment. Bercow shouting .... order, order... ordEr. The news crews camped out on Westminster green with that lunatic shouting and
  19. Last summer my brother and I were motoring along a local river when a grass snake was swimming right down the middle of the river in the opposite direction to us. It took no notice of us, the boat or the outboard motor. We moved over out of its way and it continued on its way straight down the middle of the river at quite a pace. It kept its head up vertical about a couple of inches out of the water. What made this tv wildlife pundit an expert.? The adder obviously was unaware of his proclaimed status. Could it be that if the adder was aware of this self proclaimed expert status th
  20. To be honest, I've seen and heard these birds but I've never gotten that close to even think about that there are different ones. It's the same thing with the red kite. The thought never crossed my mind. I'll have to start taking the binos out but generally when I've seen them thyve been at some distance to really see full detail.
  21. Yep buzzards. Never ever saw them down here in Kent up until about 5 years ago. Now there's quite a few around. They circle high up and make a high pitched sort of peew, peew sound. They are quite often seen perching on low branches or out on the sports ground field
  22. Right. I've had back problems like this many times. If this helps you great. Lay flat on your back. Lift one leg at a time up towards the ceiling. You may find that you can lift one leg a lot higher than the other. ... don't force it. this is to identify which side the problem is on.... (not which one hurts). If one lifts a LOT higher than the other, then slowly roll twist in the opposite direction. Keep one leg straight and the other bent. Keep shoulders flat on floor. This relieves pressure on the nerves. Dont go overboard. If it works great if not nothing lost. My Mrs is cracking
  23. Yeah, but that does include a time factor for hob nob dunking though And of course the orgs such as basic who profess to support and protect the shooting community are doing FA about it. In fact if past performance is anything to go by they are actively promoting it. Probably saying that it helps to weed out the nutters and protect the sport from further indiscretions. ,,! The next time you apply the quacks will be charging £200.! Ps if the orgs such as basic ARE doing something about it why aren't they on here keeping us in a loop
  24. I am surprised by the amount of people who keep chop changing guns. Two of the son in laws have bought guns second hand really cheaply,, lije give away money that have been virtually unused. One gun had been bought in 1994 but had only ever shot 4 rounds.!! Yes 4 rounds.!! And they had been shot at a block of wood to see it fire. It had all the original packing along with 2 boxes of ammo minus 4 rounds. Thes boxes of ammo had been written on the original bill. Overall they have both bought 4 rifles like this in 17 HMR and 223. People buy them and don't ever use them. My guns are tools not
  25. I managed to find and kill a couple of fleas on the spaniel. Well it was a good day for the spaniel. Not so for the fleas. Highlight of a rainy day for me. Does that qualify.? ???
