  1. Postie, this one took 4 weeks to catch. Very small garden bordered on 3 sides by a brick wall. He'd been operating next door where there was no permission to trap, and only making occasional raids on my customers lawn via, I assume, a fault or tunnel somewhere in the wall footing. As previously stated in this thread he was a real devious trap avoider and his demise was down to dumb luck on my part. This putangue was set vertically in a tunnel that went straight down, about eight inches below the turf. When I pulled it out, I was bemused to find the mole in this position until further inve
  2. The customer I mentioned earlier in the thread had her first wave of cluster flies move in this week. The EFK did an excellent job. I had about half a lb out of the hopper yesterday! Had to give the kill grid a good scrape, though. Very important.
  3. Get a Talpex in there. Change the trap locations regularly. Try the Putangues on their side. I sympathise. I have a mole in a garden at the moment that's doing the same. Been doing it for a month!! Occasionally you get a devious little fecker that does yer head in.
  4. I shall enjoy watching that. Thanks for posting.
  5. "Bats? yes madam, but it's ok, they've been autographed by Ian Botham"
  6. I went to a primary school the other day to consult on the 'biggest pile of me mouse poo since Mickey overdosed on laxatives'- according to the caretaker. Sure enough, the loft was wall to wall bat shit.
  7. This trap was rebaited yesterday midday. Sometime between then and now, this one was caught. All that remained of the top half of his body was a flap of skin and fur, an ear and half a paw. His mates had eaten the rest.
  8. I've been revving up peanut butter with coconut oil for a bit of added sex appeal. Also the reason I went for a vertical snap trap - just to change things about. You can buy frozen baby rats from pet food outlets (people feed their snakes with them) and I've always fancied giving them a go - rats being cannibalistic. Just a theory, but maybe worth a try. When I size up rat jobs I ask myself two questions: Is the person likely to pay the bill, and is anything I do likely to make a difference. If the answer to either of those questions is no, I walk.
  9. One of my custmers has a 2 x 15w efk with hopper up there. Householder should check with their insurer and you should check your PL.
  10. I agree with you, but the customer is king and in this particular instance, I have to go with what they want. Blame it on SpringWatch. Anyway I'm headed there again tonight to administer a little lead poisoning under the cover of darkness
  11. Been experimenting with a different trap presentation on a difficult job. Lots of pets and children there so rodenticides are out and they have vetoed fenn mk4s. I knocked this box together. It can be fixed along a fence line or along a wall etc With a Victor vertically inside. A length of shock-leader is tied to the kill bar and threaded through a hole in the top lid. When the trap is sprung this will disappear, for at-a-glance monitoring. Only caught little uns so far, but it's early days.
  12. A fine example of the benefits of fieldsport to conservation.
  13. I had a BSA Meteor in .22 that I converted to gas ram using the strut from the bonnet of a Ford Cosworth. That gun put out 390 ft lbs on a warm day and would put a hole clean through a railway sleeper. Honest.

  15. I reckon after all those Webleys Weirauchs Airarms and Daystates, the HW100 would be a natural progression. I wouldn't hang on to the Hatsan for too long -and with your extensive experience you will have already realised this - it wont measure up to what youre accustomed to, even with 2 years off.
  16. I think the key word here is 'Abandonment', ie hard release - meaning literally kicked out the back of a van, versus soft release - into a temporary holding pen with food and water and then eventual freedom under close supervision and monitoring. My interpretation would be that humane despatch at the point of capture would be more in favour with the law than hard release, although the soft option is also ok if someone is willing to stump up several hundreds of £'s.
  17. Rowan 285 Posted June 28, 2014 I must admit i'm in exactly the same position , ( not work in a factory though), sorry one and all to trouble you with yet another wannabe pest controller, but I am about to pay for the BPCA level 2 online course any feed back would be great , many thanks. There must be more than one Rowan on here. My apologies, old chap.
  18. All I would say is: consider your budget very very carefully. I have a mate in a very similar position to you; he's in the marquee game and recently relocated from another part of the UK. He has a good website, but was still pumping in £1.5k a month this season on Google AdWords to make sure he was visible. A website is a good showcase but on its own doesn't automatically equate to new business or good business, for that matter. Don't spend a fortune on it, that's all I'd say, and work your existing contacts for referrals and recommendations. Winning good business on your doorstep
  19. I'm out of action today with gout, so the rats round here are quite safe. In the meantime, look what they're doing to me neighbours sweet corn
  20. Always wanted to give this a go. I'm slowly assembling all the bits and pieces. Good to see.
  21. From another angle - looks like a gorila staring out of the yew. It was a wasp nest. The entrance is the 'mouth'
  22. Found this beauty in a quiet corner of our local grave yard.
  23. From the shadow, I'd say it's a Great White. Rat infestations are like the fire triangle but with an extra side - if you think of oxygen, heat, fuel as food, water, harbourage and HUMANS; permanently remove one element and there is no problem. Of course, there are also scenarios where an 'innocent' party gets affected - the accountant next to the chicken shop with a roof full of rat shit and buffalo wing bones - but when it comes to self inflicted problems I would rather spend 5 minutes reading the riot act and then walk away rather than wasting my energy on a lost cause.
