Was up in the loftspace of a large villa style bungalow this morning. No headroom, full of earthwool and ratshit. Took a left turn then a right etc. Was wearing an led head torch powered by a Li cell which, as they do, suddenly died without warning. I found myself in total blackness - couldn't even see my hand in front of my face. I don't mind admitting it scared the living bejasus out of me, fumbling back through pitch darkness from memory to the loft hatch. I was a quivering wreck when I finally climbed out. If I'd been more disciplined about charging the head torch, a nasty fxxk up c

You need to play techno music at high volume. This will move them on.

I was at a very active hornets nest yesterday. It was behind some broken cladding on an outbuilding next to the householders backdoor and there was a steady flight of them coming and going to some nearby woods. After weighing up the pros and cons, (money was not the issue) the guy suddenly decided he didn't want them destroyed. I'd only driven a couple of miles out of my way, so I wasn't peeved - sometimes it's good to live and let live. Mind you, it did remind me that one should always try and gauge the punters intentions during the initial phone call and NOT after driving x no. of miles fo

I stopped using worm juice a while back, just before they banned it.

Don't tell em about the worm juice on cotton wool trick. Decimates the mole population that one.

Jobs You Can Never Get Away From

At the end of the day it's different stroke for different folks. I make between 70 and 150 a day over a 7 day week. Over the course of a year it pays my bills and keeps me in beer. I cant complain. -
I only ever use Ficam 'D' for wasps. It's not cheap and you need a duster applicator, I use a Birchmeier DR5, but it's the bollocks on wasps. It contains Bendiocarb, This stuff is nasty so wear a respirator. Can I buy it or do I need to be licenced? My Father in Law has been stung five times today from a nest he thinks is in the ground by the greenhouse and wants me to sort the buggers out. If not Ficam what does the experts suggest I use? Something quickly effective as I don't want to be running round the garden being chased......... There's all sorts for sale on Amazon. Be wary

The logistics are a bit frightening, but thanks. I'm thinking Ultra now. -

See It's standard. I need a gun for work and as was pointed out on HL by wiser heads than mine, at the end of the day a PCP is going to get invoices paid faster than a Springer for someone of my modest abilities. Had a SuperSport before but have suddenly come into a lot more rabbit work. The 97 is great, but in the field it's a fiddle for me to load and I'm fighting the weight which I find out-front heavy; as soon as I get on- target I start to get a tremor on. Was offered 200 by the retailer, which didn't seem a good deal. Would do a swap on a good Ultra if it was all straight. -
Less than 200 pellets through it. Purchased form Airgun Centre 3 months ago. Accurate gun - 1 inch groups at 38 yards (bench rested) and I'm a terrible shot - Someone who really knew what they were doing could use it to deadly effect! Selling because it's too heavy for me. Cracking gun - have come to the realisation it doesn't suit me personally which I'm quite gutted about. With slip - £340.00 F2F

That feather trick is used by a tribe to locate honey. They trap a hornet that is known to prey on the bees and tie a thread with a feather around its abdomen which slows the hornet down enough for them to track it through the forest to the bees nest which they then raid for the honey using smoke and lethal looking home made ladders. I have used the WaspBane trap with success on nuisance wasps. Although this year it's very very quiet here in north Essex. When you can sit in a beer garden on a sunny August day without seeing a single jasper, you know there's a shortage.

The 97 and I have not bonded. It's too heavy for me. I'm not a tiny little feller either, but when shouldering it to sight on the target, the weight feels like it's all way out front and I'm fighting it, bit like a trying to lay bricks with a fly-rod. It's a shame, because when I zeroed it seated off a bean bag at 38 yards, it grouped beautifully and I was seriously impressed. However, in the field it just doesn't work for me. Guess I'll be selling and buying an Ultra.

Jobs You Can Never Get Away From

90 % of my work is gardens. I don't see that changing either. My aim is to build the business close to home and try not to get lured too far away. It's the price of diesel that eats the profit, not the tricky moles. -

It's the upper classes. They love a bit of role-play; gets them all horny for the days when they could have a struggling mole catcher deported to the colonies. Anyway, caught old warp in the rose garden. Bill paid, job done. -
Had mole traps in the garden of this fine pad for 7 days, caught three moles. Great. Left the traps a further 3 days - just in case a straggler turns up (the lawn is billiard table spec) - nothing. Knock on the door to collect the money, only to be frog marched to the other end of the property where the lady of the house says she has just found more workings. Don't get me wrong - they all count, it's just that this feller has obviously been rooting around this patch for a few days - and I could have mopped him up with the rest of 'em if I'd have known he was there. One thing I

Sometimes they just keep coming. Popular wisdom says that the mole is a solitary animal, suggesting that one catch equals a clearance, but certain runs will yield surprising numbers of customers. I like to check everyday, where ever possible. In fact, I get quite itchy when I can't get round to all my traps as frequently as I'd like. A trapped mole is just blocking the path of the others and I like to get reset asap, in hope OR expectation!

Feck me Tim, where has this rifle been hiding ? I chucked one of my 100`s silencers on her tonight and you could have blown me over with a feather ! - What a transition ! I`ve got a HW 100 with a mainspring ! Pure silk, accuracy to die for, "spits fire" so, so quietly. Boy is this lady gonna get some hunting time with me ! " What a springer" !!! atb Mark I think I want one as well, now!

Still deliberating on the FAC, trappa. Funds are tight at the moment and I just bought a HW 97 with night vision which has opened up a new dimension for rats and bunnies. The moles gave themselves away, The One. If you look at the run it exits the edge of the stepping stone at 4 oclock as you look at the circle. There was a small pile of spoil there which gave me the idea of pulling the stone out to see what was going on beneath it. The tunnel that comes up where I trap the moles is almost vertical and must lead to some long established 'highway'. It's the only place I can catch there with

Charlie, re the dri-slide for the piston and the silicon oil for the piston seal - which products/brands should I use? Thanks mate.

Been trapping this cottage garden for the last 3 years. It's a nightmare of little paths and terraces on steep, fast draining land full of ancient rubble. The moles here rarely make a hill, they just tear up the grass roots or swim around in the sandy borders. Hard trapping... Except for thi little tunnel that comes up beneath a stepping stone. Its always been there and a trapline pushed down it always catches.

Putange Trouble Shooting

I hardened off my tool by heating it up with a gas torch then plunging into cold water - worked a treat. -

I had a putang went like that. Tried tinkering, bending this way and that with no joy. If they're new, get em exchanged -
Was that with NV or lamp?

Tomorrow morning early doors for the zero. In the meantime, fired it at a paperback (Death In The Afternoon by Ernest Hemingway) versus my little nephew's SMK Syntarg, for a point blank penetration test. SMK: Accupel lodged at page 38. 97: Accupel lodged at page 152. Who needs a chrony when you've got a library?!

Well there she is. Picked up this morning and now waiting to get out to a permission to zero it. Initial impression - built like a tank and twice as heavy. While I was in the shop, a gentlemen came in to return his leaky Daystate for repair. Well, you pays your money, you takes your choice!
