  1. Concrete works great... keeps them from digging out (which they would if you used grass unless you buried a mesh bottom and planted grass on top) also you can spray it down with the hose.. very easy clean up... i've got a few problems with woodchip and ferrets ... when you drop in whole prey they drag it about .. through the woodchip.. and then ingest said woodchip.. risking possible blockages... not really worth it to my mind but then lots of people have used it for AGES!! with no problems at all
  2. lol thats malt paste for ferrets!!
  3. If you get a hob get him snipped and they can live together all year round and if you want to breed your jills you can borrow a hob beg to differ, leaving a snipped hob in with the jills is not a good Idea, he will rag them silly, better to let him get them out of season, then move him to another cage, a castrated hob can be left with jills all year round, but theres no gurantee he'll get them out of season Yeah you're gonna have the same problem with a Vasectomized hob as you would a whole hob... they still got the same hormones... only way to cure that is get it castrated (
  4. Yes you'll need to do some tacking in the corners... The only reason for the lino is otherwise your wood will rot quicker in the toilet areas... amazing how quick urine decomposes wood! i agree here with Stubby too... ideally later on put it on concrete.. SOOO much easier to clean out properly!
  5. yeah we've got a couple for you to choose from ... all doin smashing.. though i think their developement is about a week behind the new litter ( a few still hobbling more than walking and eyes opened a week later) lovely lil hobs though! Will be good workers this winter...
  6. my 4 week old kits used squirrel as a sleeping bag all last week! we had friends who shot them in the garden, so chucked them in.. cute as buttons they were.. scrambling over it.. eating till they couldn't hold any more and then curled up in the tail and fell asleep! how are they doing? and how did you get on with your thing at the local school a couple weeks back? oh the young ones are doin Great! 4 1/2 weeks.. no eyes open yet .. but the other litter was in the 5th week when they opened too... lol maybe its on the dad's side eh ? The school fayre went good.. lots of cuddles f
  7. Cheap Linoleum will make a decent floor that's easy to clean remember what ever you put in as in logs and branches etc.. you'll want to be able to take out to do a thorough clean now and then...

  11. if he is duff i wont even give him away as a pet . curious why tho and the polecat ? Hey they're lil bodies are still developing.. in the wild, perhaps it would be the weak link.. but in your back garden he might catch up just fine and end up being a Great lil worker for you!
  12. lol flat ferrets... i have a jill that does this "death sleep" from time to time.. literally dead weight .. can poke prod shake .. nothin.. and a few min later they wake up and look at ya like What???
  13. I'd be much more content to see them in a shed/court system Will, even just a shed to start, Then the avairy when you can get your dad to help, the only problem with hutches is actual run around room. Yes they have good sleeping space etc, but they dont have much room to run and play. Ferrets that run around and get a lot of good exersize are going to be well toned and ready to work for you in the winter. This is gonna really be important with a new kit too. Also if you have ferrets that are a bit grumpy .. there's no place to get out of each other's way in hutches where as in a shed/ court th
  14. Hi there.. i had the same experience with my jill Thyme.. the first kit she literally almost had in my hand.. Afterwhich she was quickly put into her nesting box to get on with it lol.. The first few days she was just fine with me close by etc... i just kept filling up the food and listening for the squawks.. that's the key.. as long as they make noise then hush up when mum nurses .. then she's doin fine and leave her to it! You're doing fine offering lots of raw meat, and plenty of water, though i'd be a bit wary of offering milk containing any lactose in case it upsets her tummy which
  15. mine were all just about 5 weeks plus a few days ... one even refused to open them till ALMOST th end of the week... did a good check over them as sue suggests but there wasn't anything around the eyes.. just stayed closed.. all open and lookin around now though of course!
  16. ours are spoken for with the exception of ... i think 5... which will either be found good WORKING homes... or kept until we do ... we've got plenty of room and lots of time for ferrets so any that dont find a quick home will wait for a GOOD one! a couple are being swapped for ferrets I have been wanting as well...
  17. Mine has 4, so thats 336. ok add my 21 357
  18. lol You live on a farm Will.. go out and shoot some !
  19. hi mate glad you agree, I pity the people who travelled a long way and expected a bit more from a B.A.S.C SHOW. Have to agree there.. we drove up from South Devon... Brought the ferret along for the show... which due to lack of interest was cancelled... not much else there for us to be honest... the ferreting demo wasn't bad.. but it wasn't anything we didn't already know ... certainly wasn't worth the petrol, toll bridge fee.. and entrance fee for two....
  20. If you cant get rabbit use chicken , dry foods no good they wont do anywhere near as well on even soaked kibble, fresh minced beef from the butchers also, i was feeding 12 kits 4 pound off meat a day at the 8 week stage , they eat like its going out of fashion Use fattier meats from the butchers as very lean meat my lead to osteodystrophy in the kits rabbits better if you can get it Yeap i agree... if you cant get rabbit use chicken and other meats ... my butcher keeps back scraps and gives them to me at a steal once a week.. perhaps a butcher near you does this for local dogs.. w
  21. Yeah i agree.. both my litters at 2 weeks old were escaping from the nest .. much to mum's dismay lol.. if they were on a second level i'd have had Many fall .. block it up if possible
  22. If you need to take her you need to take her... they should be fine without her for a couple hours .. try to make it as quick as possible.. however when my vet had arranged the apt for us.. they said to bring the kits with her.. so she didn't over stress with the kits missing suddenly... as i said.. we never went so i dont know how that would work out ...
  23. Now you gave it a name it i reckon you shouls have it lol aww's i'd take her .. but you're a bit far away for me down here in South Devon
  24. i agree if you think its something to be concerned over... get to the vet... That being said.. Both my jills moulted like CRAZY the first couple weeks after giving birth, and one had a nasty hacky wheeze and i had noticed lots of extra hair and grooming ... so gave it a bit of hair ball paste and it eased considerably over the week. But do be cautious ferrets go down hill SO fast... so often their just isn't time for wait and see.. is hairball paste easy to get hhold of? my local pet store has it.. Beaphar is the brand.. i bought it as a "must have" lol Yeah right! when
