Unless you're prepared to go to a private breeder to the tune of around $200 plus all you're going to find is the puppy mill type sold at pet stores... aprox $100 - $150 the next best thing is to get in touch with a good working ferreter who is breeding a litter here and hop on a plane... Your real problem is going to be legality... many places in the states have laws against hunting with ferrets so check your local DNR first.. good luck !!

lol good luck!!! i've been looking for months for a micro collar cap... if its the regular larger mk1 type collar .. try a coax cable top.. you can find them at electrical places or diy or hardware shops... they fit fine..

lorelei0922 replied to pencoed hunter's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
i'd say anything that would keep the smell from soaking into the wood... you can find lino and all that at carboots pretty cheap too.. or check your local freecycle we find tons of things that i could use for ferrets -
Freddie The Ferret In His New Hutch

Keeping smells and germs down in the hutch... 1st.. cover the wood bits with Lino or something NON permeable... it will keep the smell from soaking into the wood.. only use woodchip or whatever on the poo level if they are refusing the tray... Next .. scoop tray and poo daily and continue thorough cleaning 3 times a week ... even if it looks fine dont do it less than 1 time a week consider the food you feed... if you feed raw.. fine... their poo stinks a lot less...but if you're feeding dry kibble.. check the ingredients.. those with fishmeal in the list will give ya smellier poo -
And a pretty day we had too!! We lucked upon some great permission that we just had to try out one last day, my husband works for the water board and got permission to ferret at one of the treatment works... We also have finally just picked up a brand new Mk3M set and wanted to see how it worked for us.. a friend's lad is 15 and getting in a bit of trouble these days.. spending more time supervised and without his mates is the plan at the moment so we snagged him along for an extra pair of hands... killed his first rabbit, chased a rabbit across the site when he escaped his hands and got a

We went along to the show as well.. mostly for the ferret stuff... I know "show" ferrets generally get a lot of schtick on the forum but i just had to mention... Best hob, Best Jill, First Place Albino Hob, First - Second Place Albino Jills, Reserve and Champion of the show... all went to solid working ferrets..... Good show! small but fun! found some good deals on nets and twine for making such things and a had a lovely picnic in the sun ...

theres not enough money about to buy the hob ive got at present.apart from it being an absolute treasure to work and own,hes made a really good stud.ive got my mates jill in with him now,she is also a good grafter.wether these kits get selt on(which i dont think they will).they wont be cheap.you pay good money for a good animal imo and i wont just sell them to any tom ,dick or harry.i like them to go to a good working home and preferably to people i know will look after them they way they deserve to be Had a number of people come up to us at the West Country Show today asking how mu

just out of curiousity ... would anyone in the southwest have a small well tempered hob that they might consider let serve one of my jills... i'm of two minds really .. she's coming into season ... and i could use the kits for next season... however.. my hobs are big boys!! and all the kits they gave me last year.. even bred with a small jill turned out rather on the large side... thankfully i have more than enough pet or working homes for kits that didn't quite do the job for me .. and have had as many requests this year for any i care to pass on... colour isn't important perse ... t

is this true or not. ref gills and matng
lorelei0922 replied to fraggle's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
This isn't technically true... when a jill comes into season (usually the spring after her birth) she will generally stay in season until fall or until brought out of season in some other manner. Most agree that it is important to bring her out of season because of health risks associated with a prolonged season including womb infections (when a jill is in season her vulva is wet and open and just right for infections to sneak in) and a type of anemia that can make her ill and thus killing her... Some old hands have kept jills in season for years and years with no problems... others k -
The floor is concrete but it is covered in wood bark in the picture. I have now changed the floor to straw because they love burrowing and generally frollicking about. Do you not have any problems with ticks and fleas ? or as some people have said ferrets getting hard bits inbedded in ermm soft spots ? I've always been told straw isn't the right stuff to use but im finding less and less reasons why lol also what about when it rains does it get manky ?
-
Definitely the design i'm shooting for.. great setup there Dodsy... what do you have on the court floor outside ?
-
Not many unfortunately... Deben has stopped supporting them all together ... if you cant find a keen sparky to take a look ( doesn't even work all the time cause Deben scratched the numbers off the bits inside as well ... trade secrets or some such ) you're best off finding a working box on ebay or upgrading to the Mk3 for silly ammounts of money

they tend to come out of season toward the fall... and you can leave the castrated hob in with the group but the whole male will need to be taken out or he'll just keep at them all... good luck!
-
we've had two come into season already in the past two months ... no artificial light whatso ever and a rather dim court that faces away from all sunlight... happening earlier and earlier.. had to seperate my hobs out over a month ago as well...

Hi ... i have a jill who has broken her canine as well... thankfully it has NOT gone dark... but i had the vet check it out when she was in for a spay.. He said to keep an eye on it because if it goes black it could need to be taken out quickish... best to consult a vet on this one.. dont worry though if she has it out it wont affect her much at all...

Where to keep your certificate
lorelei0922 replied to lorelei0922's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
hehe... its a nickname given to me by my lovely husband... for the siren legend in germany lol never seen the Gilmore Girls... is there a lorelei on there then? Thanks everyone for the quick responses! We'll do the copy and carry bit then... i thought that might be the best way to go... -
Hi there! My husband has just recieved his shiny new Shotgun Certificate... well done for Him! the question is.. we dont see anything on or in the paper work saying you need to carry it when shooting? Do you? I would think it would be a good idea to have in ON HAND should anyone stop you while out and about with your shotgun right? So what do you carry it in? so it doesn't get wrinkled or torn or messed up with creases etc? Do you make a copy to keep in your gun slip and leave the original at home for safety ? or what? Thanks in advance

its already been said they dont NEED baths.. and yes it does strip the oils from their coats and then they double time it to build it back up and end up stinking worse...but its your choice.. if you wanna get this particular stink off them and let them start out smelling fresh in a fresh hutch go for it.. it wont hurt them either... but if you need to do so.... i'd do it INSIDE this time of year... use a lil warm water in the bath and or a lil gentle soap.. ie baby shampoo type thing... or dove ... toss a towel into a pillow case and toss the wet ferret into the case... and they'll go me

Hiya's everyone... i've got a Mk1 15 ft finder with case and a terrier collar on Ebay It would work find for a large hob or the box can be used with any Mk1 ferret collar as well... Might be a chance for someone looking for a starter locator! Item Number 300291673923 Ebay Item Link Good Luck!
-
Good for you! Rehoming through rescue is a great idea... let us know how you get on with Mercia! Dont forget a locator as a rescue might require you have one before rehoming to you!

I'm obviously not the expert you are. You can tell at birth the sex of the kits can you? That way you can tell which you want to keep? And of course at birth they show all the signs of whether they'll be a good worker?! You'll also want to consider the cost of feeding the kits etc. before you breed. Plus as said before, theres no shortage of good hobs to breed from, why use one with a defect that could be hereditary? Good luck. actually you can tell at birth .. or within a day ... the sexes if you know what you're looking for... as to the other though.. no you can hardly suss who'
