8 is ... 143

we do the same mostly.. take all 8 when we only end up using 3-4... we do the show thing in the summer season so luckily have extra carriers kitted out for them... we just put newspaper on the bottom string a hammock to keep them outta the wet if they make a mess and add a water bottle.. they are very happy in these sorta things for a day's hunting or a day at a show... just makes sense for us and has to be more comfortable for them than in a carry box if they aren't needed in the hunt

so the consensus is high enough to keep them in till about 4 weeks ish then... might make things easier for the jill if they cant escape before then i'd think...

Hi there everyone.. i'm a big fan of recycling and making new uses out of old stuff.. and hey who wants to spend a fortune on stuff that the ferrets are gonna tear up .. or get dirty when something recycled could do the job just as well... Soo... last year when my jill had her kits she had an old large bread box (perfect size and .50 at a carboot) with a hole cut in the side as an entrance... she raised her litter just fine but the kits were climbing out of the nest at 3 weeks old as the lip of the hole.. was flush with the bottom... this very loud kits constantly being rescued and d

how much to have a ferret spayed/neatured?
lorelei0922 replied to tony d's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
a bit steep in my opinion... but prices vary from vet to vet and the part of the country... we pay £40 for jills spey and £35 for hobs Castrate... £37.50 for Vasectomy down here in Sunny Devon -
Last year my jills came into season early spring... the hob (last years kit so just barely old enough) ... did what hobs should... but BOTH jills ended up with phantoms... knew the job but didn't have the equipment just yet lol ... obviously he just wasn't QUITE ready.. Both Jills came right back into season after the phantom and the hob tried again ... this time successfully...

The Stronghold suggested IS good stuff and while we aren't as familiar with it here in the UK.. its as common as probably frontline in the states.. particularily when frontline has been used regularily for a long time and appears to be losing effect... switching to Stronghold seems to do the trick... personally i dont know what the actual medications in either is.. could just be the same for all i know lol..but yes Stronghold is a good suggestion for treating beasties on your beasties...

i have one hob who does this on a regular basis.. cept he grabs the head end... i'd Love to think he's just a great retrievin ferret lol.. but more likely what another poster said... bringing them up to get more room for the kill.. mines a big hob as well.. dont really care WHY.. its just handy to have the bunny up and taken care of ! cept when the ferret doesn't wanna reliquish his kill.. then he takes the head backto the box with him lol

Here's the deal... when a ferret comes into season she'll stay in season through out the summer unless brought out by SOME means... as a result she is prone to picking up nasty infections ( which can be .. but not always ARE .. avoided by keeping her hutch/court scrupulously clean) or she May... develope something called aplastic anema which is a disease that attacks the ferret's bone marrow and can kill her. This is more likely in ferrets who go through several long seasons without being bred... so how do you avoid this... there are several options here.. 1.. like i said keep h

Where should I keep a ferret????
lorelei0922 replied to border bunny demolisher's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I've got a tarpaulin from the pound shop that covers the front of my court at night, and when the weather is rough. one of our sheds tends to get a bit damp in the wet is blowing in at the right angle... we had a bit of gardening membrane left from the yard ( that black mesh stuff you put under to keep out the weeds?) attached that to the top with a weight at the bottom.. roll it down when the wet comes in.. keeps most of the bluster out... -
ears are easy... a bit of cotton wool with warm water... scruff ferret... wipe... diry ears and a great place for mites...

Hi everyone, Recently my husband and i rescued a young lurcher about 9 months old now. His family was getting a divorce.. had no time for him and was going to shoot the poor thing. Thats just not on. Certainly wasn't the dogs fault! He's a lovely looking lad, bright and bouncy. Very fast and eager to please. Has very little basic obedience as yet though he's starting to understand some if he's highly motivated.. ie got a treat for him lol.. knows Sit (when he wants lol) and will come to a whistle or call no problem, but desperately needs someone who can take the time and energy he nee

stubby your 100% right i got sawdust i n me cage. should i use sumthing elts or will they be fine some people find that the saw dust does cause some respitory distress... others have no problems beyond a few sneezes when its first put down.. you might check out a Dust Extracted Wood Chip though... you can get it from Mole Valley Farmers for about £6 a bale.. lasts absolutely ages

well done taking them in... it was the right thing to do i think! as for the taming they'll settle with a bit of TLC i'm sure you'll manage in no time! Good idea to get the boy done at least.. you dont know if they are siblings... not really worth the risk of a bad litter even if you DID want more... well done!
-
aww i'm real sorry to hear this!! such a shame... you did what you could though and gave her every chance... i'm sure you're not best pleased with your brother either...
-
Hey! i notice you got that new permission you were lookin for... well done! how goes the search for another ferret to add to your team ?
-
why do you want to keep this polecat? surely something this unsociable and this agressive isn't going to be an asset to a hunting team? why not get it to an animal sanctuary where it can be released ? dont think i'd risk adding something THIS unknown with my ferrets....
-
you'll find she'll drink more with the bowl anyways.. even when they're healthy... keep up the good work...at least you know she's suckin up some nutrition with the soup mix... you can try adding in a bit of ferret paste or multi vitamin to help boost her a bit as she heads back to healthy as well..
-
stop by your local pet store and look for that vitamin paste usually even poorly ferrets will take it... if so it could add a bit of a boost for her.. good luck!! if you can get her to lap water.. try liquidizing some raw rabbit in with a bit of that baby food... add a lil extra water to make a soupy mixture...
