  1. We have permission near Callington and near Liskeard ... hope to get down that way quite a bit this winter.. its not that far for us and we enjoy the dirve
  2. I've seen Will's hob and He IS on the skinny side... i'd be tempted to try and fatten him up a bit lol but then that could be just the mum in me!! i'd get him checked out Will due to the wretching... and that lil hob is looking lovely.. just like his dad last year!
  3. i dont know if its allowed here.. in the states you are allowed to give vaccines etc to your own pets or livestock at home.. dont know if that would work with the jill jab though ... wouldn't know enough about it..
  4. get some stinky cat food... and leave it with a bit of bedding in a cat carrier near where they escaped... fingers crossed they MAY be nearby.. Certainly ask around... people aren't gonna be a scared of a lil kit. and may take it in ?? Contact the logical places ?? vets, dog warden, police ... all these people get calls when an animal is found... sounds stupid but try a lil squeeky toy around the bottom of the bushes.. lots of ferrets come to the sound even if they've never heard it before... good luck!!!
  5. .......5 kg............5!!!!..........are you on fecking drugs!!.......lol My terrier is 7 kg..............!! .......5 kg............5!!!!..........are you on fecking drugs!!.......lol My terrier is 7 kg..............!! for someone who insists people READ posts well.. you sure dont... it says... .5kg as in 1/2 ... or aproximately a pound ????? you beat me to it, was going to point that out too, maybe you should have typed it as 500g for those needing specsavers lol Stubby.. i'm a silly american ... i thought i was doin goo
  6. it was a worker... but had always had meat... wanted to switch to kibble though to fill in spaces in between.. which i can get on board with .. i like to leave mine with kibble all the time... they ignore it mostly.. and wait for dinner which is whole rabbit lol etc... had the stubborn idea just like others.... it wont go hungry... it'll eat the kibble if its hungry enough... well in the end it didn't.. eventually it DID eat the kibble... but i sure dont want my workers losing a pound mid september just before hunting season.... as i've said before.. just because its the e

  8. Not true mate, because she has mastitis this time round is absolutely no indication she may have problems next time. not got any experance of it in ferrets but if not properly treated in cows they can lose that quarter and end up in hamburgers ,but how can you strip out the infected teat till you get rid of the crap and the milk looks normal in a ferret ,surely it must be a vet job and get antibiotics ?? thing is.. if the teat is Still producing milk ( as he says it is... ) it isn't clogged.. with mastitis... just over production.. and the warm cloth and expressing the milk w
  9. This is what we do when we have to leave ours too... makes it easier for our friend to feed.. just have to remember to get it outta the freezer the night before lol
  10. definitely something to see the vet about.. BUT! how old are the kits? are the lumps just hard or are they red.. hot... looking bumpy ?? THESE are the signs of mastitis.. not just being hard.. which is just an over production of milk.. if she's still weaning the kits.. put the kits back to the nipple .. and treat her with a warm moist cloth till you can get her to a vet.. THis was the advice from my vet when i had the same questions with my jill.. her teats were QUITE hard.. but not hot.. not red... didn't appear tender.. and she was producing milk from each teat...
  11. yeah i think its more the smell lol.. its horribly smelly stuff...
  12. Lol Congrats Stubby... sounds like a good Mrs you got ... lettin ya go shootin on your wedding night!! and hey .. thats what having animals is about... you have to take responsibility.. sometimes it isn't always convienient...
  13. fresh meat, raw bone, fat, and organs... the important thing is to mix it up.. if you fed them only muscle meat .. you would be depriving them of much needed nutrients.. but if you can manage whole prey... or to mix it up daily with bits and pieces needed... there is NO need for the kibble stuff! poo will be less and contrary to a recent post to the opposite.. it Definitely smells less on a Raw diet ! Glad you agree, i have been contradicted in the past for making this statement Matt well i get a different view than many hunters.... i have LOTS of pet's only
  14. just dont neglect calcium.. real important in kits growth... good on you for checking first though.. better to know now eh ??
  15. i dont suppose that Will wants to starve his ferret in order to get him to eat a bit of dry for a holiday! why stress the ferret .. when it's his responsibility to care for his ferrets in the best possible way! i've seen a ferret lose .5kg because it refused to eat what was given ... Yeah in the end it DID eat.. to the detriment of its health! but this kit is only 14 weeks old... it needs to be eating to grow into a healthy team member this winter! not starving for a few days for the simple lack of some patience and perseverance... Just because a solution is the easiest... doesn't me
  16. cage pacing is a stress thing.. and yeah its probably a bit of both... he's in a new enclosed space! and he's wanting to get away from the unfamiliar! give him a lil time to settle well done for taking him in and looking after him... its what any person SHOULD do.. but not all would...

  18. If its only 9 weeks old will it be able to focus long distance yet ??? i know at 9 weeks mine could certainly SEE to the end of the 10 ft shed .. they would come runnin as soon as i got to the door.. before i made any noise... but whether they could focus ? no clue!
  19. Hi Will.. how long are you gonna be away? i shouldn't think a week or so on tinned would hurt him too much.. you might try mixing it with some kibble now to be sure he's eating it before you depend on it while you're away and unable to adivse your friend. i got a jill this spring who wouldn't eat ANYTHING for a week unless i mixed tinned into it ... Whiska's supermeat in a can ... it smells absolutely revolting and well down my list of appropriate things to feed my ferret.. but apparently it was used "now and then" mixed with kibble before i got her... but she wolfed it down... i
  20. Hi Will... i'm assumin you're talkin about the lil guy you got from me... lol... and yeah the whole lot dont enjoy their kibble much unless i disguise it .. which i do from time to time, so that if there is an emergency or unforseen circumstance that means i feed only kibble... they will know its food! here's what to do ... in the morning get out whatever meat you're planning on feeding and liquidize it if its rabbit ... or chop it very fine... mince would do here too... you're gonna want 3/4 meat and 1/4 kibble.. set the kibble to soak for about 10 min in some warm water
  21. what do you mean, by my charges.? how much i sell them for.? if so. i payed 28 pound each for the silvers to be castrated so that gives a total of £56 so 20 for the 2 isnt bad? charges as in... "your little charges" ie.. your ferrets... you are IN CHARGE of ....
  22. lol least he isn't tryin to mate with the boys like my 14 week old hob is... DOH!! hasn't figured out his equipment dont work yet... or that he's got the wrong ferret under him ... but he sure knows he's a boy LOL
  23. DO be careful with snatching pipes!! some used for natural gas and running wires are impregnated with rat poisons.. might be best to get them from a fresh water crew or B&Q ... Keyline etc may have them as well...
  24. just some quick simple things really... what are you feeding and how much.. are they hungry? hungry kits can be bitey kits... next .. perhaps you need to take a look around the hutch/run area... are there loud dogs nearby that could be giving them a fright? perhaps the area you have given them it a bit big for them just yet.. i know everyone says bigger is better but i do know some kits get overwelmed by the whole big ole world thing.. perhaps try limiting their space to a smaller snug area while they settle down? another idea is the flicking on the nose bit... in a general sort of w
  25. it definitely varies state to state.. and even city to city in some states! California bans them completely because of an old ruling that they were wild animals. Hawaii is very stringent on ANY animals being introduced to their ecosystem and has banned them as well.. NYC (NOT the whole state) has banned them and a couple of the BIG cities in the south Dallas and Atlanta i think .. require a license and neuter/descenting... for the most part the early neuter and descenting of ferrets in the states is a consumer grabber.. ie.. make em ready made perfect pets ... easy to ge
