  1. mine started opening about 4 1/2 weeks there is still one at 5 1/2 weeks that hasn't bothered to open them but a slit.. lazy lil thing
  2. i agree if you think its something to be concerned over... get to the vet... That being said.. Both my jills moulted like CRAZY the first couple weeks after giving birth, and one had a nasty hacky wheeze and i had noticed lots of extra hair and grooming ... so gave it a bit of hair ball paste and it eased considerably over the week. But do be cautious ferrets go down hill SO fast... so often their just isn't time for wait and see..
  3. lol well yeah i got the albinos down lol.. just wondering if the darker colours change as they grow lol
  4. I had someone ask me a question a few days ago but didn't know the answer to tell them... wondering if any of our experienced breeders could answer this for me.. Do kit's eyes open with the colour they will always have.. or like babies.. they're born dark and then change.. obviously not albinos !!! but some dark poleys or sandies have a Ruby coloured eyes and the like?? thanks!
  5. i'd say the darker ones will end up poley... the lighter ones with dark eyes either sandy or silver light ones with pink eyes ...albino.. but thats just a guess from my own experience ( very limited!!)
  6. Too True Too True . the one year health gaurantee is if your ferret dies because they neutered it too young or took it from its mum too young and developes all kinds of nastie cancers etc.. they'll replace it.. only up to a year though .... lol and its a bit prohibitive to send a ferret over the pond unfortunately.. i've been approached several times for one of my kits lol.. told em sure come and get em... amazingly no one's shown up on my doorstep
  7. nah theres no dischage, and it dosent look as though shes coming back into season, although itl likely take a while, i dont think she could have gave birth and eaten them because surely there would be blood? i would think there would be SOME sign... i'm assuming you clean her out every day ??? when my jills had their kits their bottom halves were rather bloody ... and it took a day or so for them to clean themselves up ... i think you would have noticed to be honest... my two also had phantom pregnancies early in the season... they both got fat .. and acted VERY pregnant

  10. awwwwss i WANT a lil sandy jill this year.. adorable!
  11. you need lactose for the kits its got more nutrition tham cats milk. ask the vet proportions for hand feeding..my vet said 3 parts puppy replacement milk ( you can get at the pet store) and 1 part cream...
  12. would be happy to ask around .. i'm a bit far south to offer to foster.. but i know people in your area...
  13. yeah just below the umbilical cord you should see another "belly button" those are boys.. girls will have a more noticable set of tiny little teats and a vulva just above that anus.. if you look at one of each you can tell no problem! thanks. are you still planning to go to stithians? will PM if i still need a hob. But I may be sorted! providing they are having a ferret show this year.. we've heard that the organizer from last year isn't doing them anymore.. but wrote the show organizer to see if they are still planning a ferret bit... Ok. Pm me if you are going. otherwi

  16. i'd suggest probably not.. might be worth a vet visit.. unforunately there are just some things that aren't fixable in the back garden....
  17. Just my opinion, I think you have made a mistake by taking the kits out of the nest to feed them. When the jill thinks they need meat she will take it to them she knows what is best for her babies I would not advise handling the young until the jill lets them out of the nest.If she thinks they are in danger she will eat them.Good luck but I hope you don't need it. She's been fine with me close by and handling her kits.. perhaps its just knowing your jill... thanks for the advice though and the wish of good luck!
  18. do be careful if it isn't designed for small animals it could do more harm than good... you're best off getting it to the vet in the morning regardless... you've had one die with these symptoms ...
  19. Exactly.. i'm finding the need to do a lil whole food education for those pet homes that have reserved kits... but as they've seen how mine enjoy their raw meat and how white the bones keep their teeth... and explaining how healthy it is for them... i'm hoping even they will go home to continue a raw meat diet too.. and there's no denying they are enjoying it lol
  20. Just thought i'd post some pics of the kiddies... the first litter is 3 weeks old .. and ready to try a bit of FOOD! So we decided to see how they'd take to a bit of food today.. and BOY was it a success! Saffie has a half saddle of Rabbit for breakfast and So with no further ado.. here we go ... Dinner for 10! Saff deposited the Kits back into nest with their saddle O' Rabbit... which mum graciously let them keep after a few squabbles and repositioning Have a great day until Next time
  21. congrats!! look forward to the pictures to come!
  22. we had two phantom pregancies early this season... as soon as the supposed 42 ish days were up.. both came directly back into season .. so ... assuming her body has figured out there are no babies to be raised.... she's come back into season... sounds normal to me.. or at least possible...
  23. sighs.. i'm such a girl.. i find that very very sad
  24. i got one litter of 8 hobs and 2 jills and another litter of 7 jills and 4 hobs... edited cause i obviously cant count to 11 ... DOH!
  25. Naa its not just you.. i think it helps give lots of people ideas of what CAN be done in x amount of space.. we've got some great creative thinking goin around this site!
