It involved dozens of refuelling aircraft and some that actually refuelled the refuellers !

The big problem is the politicians work for big business, there donors and the Davos class . That is why nothing really changes regardless of how is elected. They certainly don't work for ordinary people .

It doesn’t. But the fact is it needs to come from somewhere and making it simple like that is useful for displaying the problem. The same argument can be applied to any alternative strategy of funding a bigger military. The same arguments will be faced about using that money for something else. And the same political problems will exist why it’s ’not possible’.

The problem with this is it’s just an excuse not to do it. The entire country, Westminster and the electorate will play political tennis and negligently put off finding the actual money to fund it. So again, whether it’s a simple raise in tax or budgetary overhaul, it won’t happen because the country doesn’t have the appetite for it. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but that is the reality of our current defence situation in the uk.

Just heard that Starmer is “considering” sending HMS Duncan, our only seaworthy Type45 to the Med, but it will take a week to get there !   
FFS, the illegals are crossing the Chanel in dinghies faster than that .

Also, our only seaworthy cruise missiles capable Astute Class sub is in Australia on a training exercise.

Meanwhile the French are redeploying their Charles de Gaul carrier group to the Med and have two frigates allready there and Greece has sent two frigates and aircraft.

Where are our two carriers ?

Not that it really matters as we don’t have enough aircraft to put on them , enough support ships or enough personnel to man them.

What a sorry state of affairs……
