The same tracks as the 60’s 👍

Definately lack the “hardiness” of the old type non-peds.

Id put that down to we used the dogs for dual purpose; coursing, ferreting, lamping through the week and racing at the week ends.

Now they wouldn’t dream of using their dogs for hunting , they are single minded at getting the fastest dog possible over a 150 yards straight track and winning a Racing Champion title.
They get, in my opinion, more injuries, toes, wrists , gracillis, etc than dogs that are worked regularly, but I also put that down to some owners not warming the dogs up properly……..straight out the car and straight into the traps.

Dont get me wrong, there are plenty owners who know how to condition a dog and get it ready for a big race, but to some it’s just a bit of fun and there’s nothing wrong with that.👍

Cheers.

The ones about when I was younger were hardy most liked fox they were like a small greyhound 2 and half mins in em all action you dont see them now or I dont

You’ve got me reminiscing about my old dogs now and I could talk about them all day 😂👍

My brother and I had a bitch, Flossy, she was bred Rch. Yorkie Boy x greyhound. She levelled out at 19 1/2” and 32 lb, tremendously fast but she was second best in her weight class to a bitch called Devils Angel, also by Rch Yorkie boy x a different greyhound . They ruled the 32lb class but I could never beat it !

We mated her with a non-ped but the pups were culls even though they were 1/4 greyhound.

We then mated her with a non- ped x greyhound, making the pups 1/2 greyhound but again culls. !

Her litter brother Kojac was a top class scratch dog and won the All England Scratch Championship and the British Open Scratch Championship but never sired a decent pup !

Just shows, you never know 👍

Cheers.

You mentioned “double muscle” on a post the other day.

I had a non-ped that was “doubled muscled”, called The Baron, it was sired by one of the greatest scratch dogs ever, Red Baron, and the dam was non-ped whippet x collie/ greyhound, so could reasonably be called a lurcher.

It had the strangest running style ; it almost seemed to be running sideways, as if its back legs were trying to overtake its front legs !
It won a few match races for me, but cramped up badly afterwards. I never bred from it.

This was back in 1972;

I don’t think we are talking about the same type of double muscle.

The type I’m talking about is peculiar to whippets and appears if both parents carry the gene.

My dog wasn’t quite as bad , but not far off 👍

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea
