I used to go most years, but it got steadily worse, the fair selling more and more rubbish that had nothing to do with horses or travelling, the town full of tourists , the bars charging exorbitant prices and full of drunks wanting to fight

I was at a hunt show yesterday and met up with an old travelling mate and asked if he had been to Appleby, he said he doesn’t bother now. Also some lads I know used to travel over in horse drawn vardos every year, but didn’t bother this year.

I think it’s more of a tourist attraction now, but I have enjoyed it in the past.

It’s just full of scummy horrible people now, it used to be a good day out, it will be 15 years since I last went and it was a going down hill then, I don’t know anyone who goes now

Same used to go every year its full of fake travellers now the ones who suddenly think its fashionable to be a traveller

Never been, never fancied it.

The thought of watching gypo's charging horses down roads, and then trying to drown the poor feckers in the river really doesn't appeal to me. There's something about the fear on a horses eye that strikes a nerve with me, and if I had to witness it first hand, I wouldn't stand there and watch..!!

I’ve no interest either in going to these so called fairs but it must bring a lot of revenue into the area otherwise I think they would try and stop it There’s a similar one in Ireland I think in a village called Muff

I don't think the local businesses want the revenue.....most of em board everything up and go on holiday for the week
