Move somewhere with less scum is my opinion, an get the dog as rob me oncec shame on you, rob me twice shame on me

I haven’t mentioned this but short of leaving the country that will be hard. I live in a very nice rural community that in the past 12 months is beginning to be f***ing destroyed. And that’s now the same story the country over.

Its the sort of community where I can keep myself private but still everyone knows me. In the past 12 months though there’s been quite a bit of change.

Walking it with spaniels wouldn't be a problem.Same as I walked  my old bandog bitch with my spaniels when I had them and with my daughters Dachshunds now.suggesting a corso but that would need just as much training. What I meant was a mastiff type shouldn't be walked with anything mastiff type/bull breed as if something did go pear shaped you couldn't control both.walking a mastiff with non dominant/protective breeds isn't so much of a problem

I’ve got access to hundreds of acres of private farmland and forestry on the local estate/shoot I’m involved with. And all my other dogs walk out the house and down the street at heel off lead. Sounds like everything would fit if I go down this path.

In your opinion what is the right breed for me? I guess a Dutch herder is too close to a Mali? Is there such thing as non trialing ones but still tested? GSD? Sounds like you’re a big fan of bandogs?

Unfortunately,if someone is determined to help themselves to  items of your property...all a dog will do,is make them look for a way around it...they will come back and poison/knock it on the head, throw something else in to keep it busy, and still rinse you😔

Only real way to stop scum,is to catch them at it...find out what they drive, where they live/stay....and burn the cnuts out....

Or you could pass on the information and rely on the Police?

I know what road I would take personally 👍

Exactly that,A dog is only a deterant to  oppertunist scumbags. It aint gunna stop determined professionals.Always used to make me laugh the wannabe gangsters I'd see wanting to train ppl dogs to protect them against other naughty lads and I'd tell them"listen there's fellas I know of that if they're coming for you or something you have they're gunna make sure they bring something for that doggie met enough rough fells in my time that if they were coming for me I wouldn't be relying a dog to stop them.Mines there just to stop some little smack head robbing my shed or climbing in through a window to go through my gaff

For what it’s worth, the oldest and most practical methods like a baseball bat and a bayonet by the bed, keeping your gun cabinet and some ammo in your bedroom are the most you can do.

A dog is almost useless in reality, it’s as much of a deterrent as an alarm box on the wall.

A family home isn’t like a scrap yard where you can leave beasts of dogs just running loose, you can’t have dogs like that round a family home.

Some of these gangs will torture the life out of you if they get in, happened to a few young family’s round my old way, you just have to be prepared to do them in and ask questions later……an absolutely horrible situation for normal, everyday, law abiding people.

My auntie ran a pub in leeds in Halton Moor. They had a German shepherd around the back of the pub that was some kind of a guard dog. To protect the hatch to the pub cellar. Due to in the past it being robbed. They've ended up inside the pub through the hatch behind the bar. Anyway they've heard a noise coming from the back of the pub. When they've gone out the dog was all over the place running into the wall. They've managed to take it to the vets. The vet told my auntie it looks like its been poisoned. Vet said best thing to do would be to put him to sleep. So that's what they did. Stunning German shepherd too. If they want to get in the property no dogs stopping them if they plan on getting in.

GSD are a good dog if you can get a goodun. The bandog/mastiff types suit me.Naturally territorial and protective,Generally not overly prey driven so easy to keep sound around livestock and other pets. And most importantly to me relaxed and quiet when there's no threat. All my neighbours have dogs a couple of them are right poxy yapping things but they all say if we hear Gypsy bark we get up and have a look because we know she's barking for a reason.I couldn't be doing with a dog that's barking at a car door shutting or someone talking 3 streets away. But as with anything else if you're gunna get a mastiff/bandog type do your homework as with any other working breed there's more shit out there than decent ones

First and foremost, I’m deeply sorry to read this mate…..I hope you and your family are not too shaken up, I know you were away (thank god) but all the same it’s a terrible thing for a family to have to deal with.

I regret to inform you that before I moved this had become just a common thing.

In the incidents that happened round me not all of the family’s were away, in fact people being there don’t bother these animals one little bit…..just be thankful you were away because plenty round my old way were brutalised in the most hideous way.
Im not trying to make a bad situation worse, just telling the truth.

A dog, imho, will hopefully give you and your family some comfort but I have to tell you these gangs don’t care about a dog themselves, they just kill them and that’s it.
You on the other hand have to spend your life managing a man work dog around a child, something that in my opinion will require almost constantly being switched on and vigilant.

It’s a shit no win situation, nothing to be done about it, that’s just the place Britain is.
Sorry to be so negative, I’d like to say “yes that’s works” to you but I can’t because I’ve lived in an area where this became an almost every month or week thing and I’m fully aware of how these people operate.

Also, your wife has to attend to its needs when you're working away.  Add to the fact you now have another dog which you're not getting through choice but necessity which perhaps you don't really want and you could be signing up for a whole load of grief.

He’s the best guard dog I’ve seen brains like a collie most seem the same off proper bloodlines

Mates was using these 20 yrs back... stopped them until they got wise...he had 2 poisoned and another they enticed to the boundary fence, snared it around the neck, dragged to the fence where they strangled it then stoved it's skull in with a hammer 😬

Like I said...a dog is no deterrent when someone wants what you have...they just f**k off and come back with a way around it👍

I've just had a long winded message saying "If you want the ultimate protection dog it's either a pure saluki or coursing bred, no others come close!"

It's not a question of if it's a question of when. Lol
