I was gifted a teckel pup from imported working parents, but I'm a running dog man so gave it to my brother when he had his old Jack Russel put down,

Some people think they are terriers, but they're not; they're hounds, and if you don't want to see yours  disappearing into the distance, on a hot scent, never to be seen again, train it well, or invest in a tracker collar ! !

no the plus side this one came from a keeper, was imported from bore stock.. it’ll go anywhere and have a go at anything when in the fields but put him on a lead and he’s a doddle and model pet that me old mum walks about

Out of interest I checked out Wicki's site on the dachshund. Some really damning stuff about their health and temperament. Get a whippet lurcherman. Peaceful, chilled  creatures with no significant health problems.
