chartpolski 28,037
Maybe this is the start of the "Great Reset", but not how it was quite imagined ? The rise of the East; Russia trying to regain its empire, China , now a military and economic superpower looking to take back Taiwan, and the decline of the West. Russia supplying Europe with oil and gas while we refuse to exploit the vast reserves that could make us self sufficient. Outsourcing all our manufacturing, steel works etc to China. The insane "net zero" that Boris is hell bent on achieving while making the British people poorer, colder and hungrier, while the East gets rich on using and supplying us with oil and gas and all the things we used to produce ourselves. A couple of month ago it cost me £30 to fill my car with petrol, it now costs £50 ! Today SSE told me my gas/electric bill is going up by £60 a month, I've seen the price doubling of some foodstuffs in the supermarket, but my pension is going up by around £5 a week in April. There are many people who are and will be much worse of than me, hard times are a coming........ Cheers.

He'd bit a copper, numerous convictions, couldn't work because his mental health and anxiety was really bad. He was receiving £1000 a month in benifits. I've worked 40 plus hours a week on farms for that much. Its truly insane.

Plenty of "third world" people have been caned, and Saudi nationals. The caning itself is done with a cane about 6' long, the "caner" has the Koran under his arm, limiting the force he can administer. The lashes start at the shoulders and go down to the buttocks. If it's a lot of lashes, they aren't all given at once, it could be, say, ten a week until they are finished. It depends on who is being caned and the severity of the crime, but it can break the skin, and I imagine being very painful, people being caned do faint. Savage punishment, or a deterrent ? Depends on your view. Cheers.
jok 3,465
Just for the record, can a Saudi male be accused of rape or is the female assumed promiscuous? Do they still bury victims up to the chin and stone them to death? In Jeddah, on chop square, do they still cut the hands off thieves with a fairly healthy crowd watching and baying for blood? I could go on. This for Chartpolski. Jok.

When I was at school in the olden days, lads would always opt for 6 of the best instead of detention.

I was last in Saudi 6 years ago for the birth of my grandson, my missus goes there fairly regular, my daughter in law is Saudi and my grandson attends the International school in Jeddah. Its changed massively since I was last there, since the Crown Prince started the modernisation. Of course a Saudi male can be accused of rape, and many have been beheaded for it. I was in Riyadh in '78 and I was shown the place in the market square where the last woman was stoned to death some years before, I don't know of it happening since. Yes, they still cut hands and heads off in the mosque car park on a Friday in Jeddah, but all the ones I saw there was no baying for blood and the crowds were big but quiet. I can only answer your questions to the best of my ability and experiences, I'm certainly not an apologist for the Saudi regime, they live by a different set of rules to us, but I'm a believer in "when in Rome........", wherever in the world I happen to be. Cheers.
