Vince Gironda the iron guru  was way ahead of his time. I've done keto diets and it does work but I've had the best consistent results from eating clean and tracking my calories and planning my meals

Running few times a week, gym once a week and surfing when I can keeps me ticking along. Got the Bideford 10 miler at the weekend.

Training for the races is a good way to get a few miles in for the dog through the summer and I'm 56 yrs and in pretty good shape because of keeping active.

I caught a summary of some alleged study recently, no idea how valid it is because I didn't dig it out. But basically it said that they concluded that age related body composition changes, like muscle loss and fat gain specifically, had little to no relationship with ageing when you corrected for activity level. It basically said that those body comp changes were as a result of a reduced activity level that most people adapt to in later life and not age itself.

I should really look into it because I thought it was quite an interesting conclusion if true. Couple that with how heavy lifting can change your hormone levels etc it really shows how keeping up and not 'taking it steady' will keep you young.

Im at the gym 4-5 times a week, some weeks I go every day, love a bit of gym I do, keeps me mind right ? I like doing all the compound lifts, builds plenty of power and strength, but I do all the usual dumbbell and split routines aswell, occasionally I use the machines/cables but imo free weights are much better, lately I am focusing mainly on the strong lifts though

and to keep fit and sharp I go to this big hill and sprint up it, usually til I'm f****d, I used to do plenty of jogging but I find after a while you just plod along and it isn't very challenging anymore, and sprints retain muscle where jogging doesn't , so for cardio I'll do sprints, swimming, rowing machine and bagwork, padwork and sparring

i like a takeaway as much as the next man but if you're training it's important to keep on diet as that's the hardest part and the part that pays off the most, training is the easy part, of a weekend I'll have a takeaway but through the week the diets right

I dunno about more important, but they're definitely neglected more by most people. All the youngsters (I'm old now :() seem para about their f***ing 'macros' and supplements but give no thought about vits/mins. That's really where my thoughts on diet are at now, trying to balance that out properly, increasing the plant base and just enjoying quality meat and fish cooked however I want. Purely for long term health, not for fitness reasons. Similarly as far as I'm concerned supplements are f***ing snake oil, well marketed snake oil. Sleep as well, I don't f**k about with that. I really believe in the massive impact quality rest has. End's the need for lie ins too. Another big predictor of stuff like heart disease.

Fundamentally I don't want to give anything too much thought (I know it sounds like I am, LOL). Just keep the best quality of life I can for as long as I can so I can enjoy the shit I do to the max.

Talking about Test. It was interesting hearing Joe Rogan talking about his TRT the other day. I wonder if that will become mainstream anti ageing medical treatment soon. Kinda against my current philosophy but I can see the benefits. Intriguing at least.

mate in most cases trt...is just a cop out for taking gear....(might get a blood test see if I can get any lol)

sleep...oh yes...the amount of stuff I have read about that it affects is incredible.....circadian  rhythm   ...in a nutshell its programed in to us to sleep between 10-6 or  11-7.....it goes back in our dna a billion years or summat to stone age times...that's why long term nightsift workers live less....

did you know eating banana and pineapple an hour befor bed raises your serotonin levels hugely wich makes for better sleep..

I reckon exercise like diet is best when taken in variety and sensible moderation to maximize its benefit.

below some science

In respect of the vertical diet I’m not a great fan of restrictive diets in general but can understand the idea of eating quality nutrient rich foods but feel this falls to much to the restrictive side.

below for the reasoning :)

An example of my reservations is that this diet espouses increasing amounts of white rice within the diet and this undermines the whole concept. So this is the paradox, basically rice is very nutrient poor so increasingly depending on this as a food source reduces rather than maximises nutrient gains from the diet. Rice is a cheap and reasonable easy digestible carb source but there are many other sources that bring greater levels and range of nutrients so why not use them. This basically undercuts the whole ethos. They state that all “calories are not created equal” and there is a need to use nutrient rich foods against lesser choices, ie beef against chicken, so why advocate one of the largest portion ingredients in ever increasing amounts being such a nutrient poor food.

The bottom line by restricting your food choices you are likely to actually reduce the total vitamin, mineral and prebiotic intake in comparison to a more varied but still quality diet. The central theme of all good diet is variety is the spice of life so broscience rather than science, it has a smattering of the good but this is likely to be outweighed by the negative if used for any length of time

I think that's true for some folks, lol. But done properly they're just trying to maintain a young persons hormone levels for improved health. Agree though, it's a cop out for the lifestyle changes that can go some way to achieving the same. Rogan talked briefly through the process he went through and that in his opinion nothing natural could achieve the same that TRT did for him.

Did not know that no. I don't struggle to sleep, I just make sure I get enough of it. Living with a sleep deficit just makes every waking moment harder without realising, it's a false economy.

thankfully I'm the same....I could drink an esspreso and go to sleep.....never been an issue for me sleep....

if you look at all the strongmen competiters now they all get them sleep app machines cos most of them suffer with sleep apnia....I think its one of things that thor attributes to winning wsm this year ..getting the machine and getting his sleep right.....

going back to hormones ...most folk know if you have a low acting thyroid you will struggle to loose weight.....because of this docs prescribe thyroxin I think its called...but in some cases they can raise there own levels by eating foods rich in iodine ...like cranberrys..

Go to the gym, walk up and down mountains, always out and about, volleyball, skating, eat well and often, masturbate six times a day, nob a bird thrice a day, kick fuuck out of the dog several times a day, chase the fuucking cat for scratching my new sofa around the house.... you know lads, the usual. To keep my mind active I argue with my 16 year old daughter several times a day, everyday ;)
