I've seen 2 different dogs that were decent on boar 1  was a bull/greyhounds the other an AB  they both absolutely loved them but wouldn't even grab a fox single handed.

I hear what ya saying but no fox has ever killed a dog infront of its owner have it. You might go and catch 20 boar and not meet a good one but when you do you’ll know about it.

We had dogs that would pull tusky boars out of wombat holes, you reckon that's not ballsy.

Yeah, just like tackling a pig is, but it's not the same as getting chewed upon in a hole IMO. As I say, I've seen many breeds taken pigs but they wouldn't take the stick a hard earth dog would IMO.

If they're proper working pigdogs they won't bother or waste their time on other game.

Terriers can and do die off fox if they take enough hammer and go in to shock. But as you know there's pig dogs and there's pig dogs, hell I've seen gangly Great Danes on film  grab a pig by the ear and hold it, that doesn't take a real game dog IMO. But yes, a pic can kill any dog in a matter of seconds if it hits a bleeder but it would happen that quick the dog wouldn't even know what's happened let alone have it's gameness tested.

I’m not saying all boar are hard and all dogs that grab them are but when you find a good boar that ain’t frightened of your dog in daylight on his own they ain’t shit

The dog I seen get killed by a boar there was nothing quick about it and he was a fair dog on anything but bred for boar. I’ve a bitch here loves anything again come very close to getting killed on a boar when the gps collar cut collar and ear all got wrapped in a tusk. Anyone who’s seen her can see what her regular job is. I’m not saying all boar are hard and all dogs that grab them are but when you find a good boar that ain’t frightened of your dog in daylight on his own they ain’t shit

Of course they are not, that's an insult to a good dog, but it's all relative isn't it? And only because it's a good hog dog it doesn't mean that it's not deeply game. I think a good hog dog would be an exceptional animal.

A dog doesn't think is going to get killed. Its just something that may happen.A dog that catching foxes and other game that bites back week in week out knows its going to feel the pain.Seen more dogs refuse a fox that will grab boar than I have dogs that'll refuse a boar.Youve only gotta look at some of the crossbreed old mutts that get used on pigs

Mate you aint gunna prove a dog deeply game by catching boar, foxes or anything else in the field

I'm not saying you will but it doesn't mean that it's not a deeply game dog just because it's a hog dog. It could still be a game dog.

Exactly it’s all relative to what you keep your own dogs for a goodun on boar be useless for someone that don’t go for them wouldn’t it. a dog will know he’s gonna have a rough time of it eventually. Not all them things run away.

Still I suppose McBullshi**er will be along shortly to give us all his expert opinion on Wild Boar coz he's been up and down the country doing it for years and has pals in other countries doing 1000s

Maybe not but they won't live long if their gameness exceeds their sense. Probably the same with digging dogs though.

Morning, taken a step back from quad bikes and hounds - Don’t need the grief anymore. Having moved house my country has changed, curious of those that do hunt the hills with their lurches and a terrier at your heel, how do you bring them on? Getting the right dog for the job is no brainier but what about the training? Thanks.

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect
