I do appreciate both sides of the situation, however I personally feel that to override parental decisions is a big mistake long-term. Of course those that perhaps are drug addicts, alcoholics, abusive to their kids are different case's indeed.

But for law abiding upright citizens who clearly are responsible and loving parents their own choice must prevail wether religious or otherwise, for if not, then what do we have? We're only destroying the very thing government is trying to establish, that is a responsible society, strong communities, strong families.

But anyway, all the best

I think you've convinced everyone now that you're in the crackpot minority that would happily see a child die because of some religious or other beliefs that the parents hold.

I for one am glad I live in a country whos health service, backed by the courts, attempts to put an individual's right to a quality life before the rights or beliefs of others.

A good explanation of the reality of the case from http://www.melaniephillips.com/cruel-ignorant-campaign/ The agonising case of Charlie Gard, the 11-month old baby dying from a rare form of mitochon

Feckin scumbag judges - it'll cost them nothing to keep their noses out and allow the parents to decide for THEIR child.   A chance, no matter how small, is still a chance.   I really do feel that

I wish the parents would just let the boy die. Even IF this treatment works, what quality of life will he have? Question: if you were told today that your own life would be rewound to your birth, and

But can the parents really be blamed for the media grabbing the story and doing what they did to it...surely the minute they decided to take the hospital to court it was gonna become public knowledge anyway

To a point yes. They Can say "no comment and we appreciate the support but please respect our privacy in this sad difficult time "

I think the blame lies at the feet of the consumer. If we didn't spend our waking hours absorbing this shit they wouldn't be in a rush to scoop the dirt. If you want privacy it should be respected. If you want publicity you can't cry foul when it goes global. If we didn't stream this shit, 24/7, it wouldn't be an issue.

The media, over here, has been kicking this around like a political football. That's how f****d up and removed from reality it is. What we're all getting here is distorted version of what happened and while our thoughts go to the parents we're all quietly relieved it isn't us.

"If a team of specialists were telling me i was terminal and some yank on the other side of the world emailed me with a half arsed pledge i know who id be listening to."

Really?? You wouldn't even consider alternative options that may help or improve your situation even though it may be Uncharted territory??

Well, your on your own there then, because I certainly would be doing all it could.

The bottom line is it's the parents choice to decide, not mine, not yours, not anybody's, been said a million times. And just because some specialists incist that there's no chance of improvement, that has nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Tell me then why they took the parents to court and denied their wishes?

i`ve stayed out of this for a couple of pages to cool off but you really are a deluded idiot who has no f***ing idea of the legal system where it applies to hospitals wanting to withdraw artificial means of keeping any one`s pulse going, I put up a link to the actual court case, FACTS, not the emotional bullshit peddled through the press to sell headlines, get one thing straight in your simple head, THEY DID NOT TAKE THE PARENTS TO COURT, AT NO POINT WERE THEY THERE AS DEFENDANTS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM, THE HOSPITAL DID NOT GO TO COURT TO FORCE THE PARENTS TO ALLOW THE MACHINES TO BE TURNED OFF, THEY WENT THERE FOR THE COURT TO DECIDE THAT SWITCHING OFF WAS THE BEST OPTION AND COULD NOT BE RULED AS AN ILLEGAL ACT, you come across as one of the nutters who will have your head pickled in the hope that some day there will be a way of reconnecting it to a useful body

Great article? You must be joking. Sky news at its best.

Thanks for keeping me up to date with your opinion, which your entitled to.

How exactly do you think the health system has at its disposal methods tried and tested to help people with illnesses, diseases and conditions? Answer...

Because they have been 'tried and tested!'

Interesting how sometimes the high moral ground is taken in this case to terminate however where would modern medicine be without people willing to go through operations, treatments, medications etc...... answer..no where.

People have the right to choose and choose for their children. Bottom line.

Perhaps there was the worry that alternative methods would have some effect, perhaps not a cure, but something, surely that's what it's all about?

Just like the Ashya King story a couple years back.

Is this directed at anyone in particular or just anyone that doesn't agree with what you're saying?

Getting so excited about debating on the internet is like a rat winning a rat race. You might win, but your still a rat.

It's a pointless waste of time, but good for someone like neil82 who obviously doesn't get out much and no doubt lacks the ability to communicate with a real human being on the outside. Enjoy.

I think it's pretty sad that a little kid's death has turned into tit for tat bickering.

At the end of the day it isn't the parent's wishes or the doctor's recommendation that counts. It's what is best for the individual child in an individual case.
