It's been fun talking about a lot of these things but it's worth remembering that we do not have a first amendment like the Americans and therefore we don't have free speech. Hate speech laws are so ambiguous I don't think it's really possible to know what you can say anymore.

After every terror attack plenty of people get arrested and charged over facebook posts etc, we're on a forum full of SGC and Firearm holders I would not be surprised one tiny bit if it gets monitored, I know for a fact that facebook profiles get looked in to when renewals are being processed. There is nothing to be gained by posting in these threads and a lot to be lost not to mention a few careless words after a beer or two could result in a knock at the door or losing certs etc.

 

I've been thinking about this for a while, I think these topics are best avoided, we can't change anything by getting wound up by this crap.

No harm in discussion but be sensible. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Or in this case the raving nutter gets his doors kicked in. There's plenty of info on this forum of how not to f**k shit up with loose lips. Threads dating back to 2005. Just replace hunting with threats.

But you don't have freedom of speech on here either. You're bound by the terms of service which are much tighter than a lot of the laws. They're listed at the top of forum but I doubt anyone reads them. The reason is that this place is hosted by a for profit business that don't want to be associated with anything highlighted in their TOS.

 

We're in a very privileged position where the lack of enforcement of the TOS allows lively discussion but FFS some could do with winding it in a bit. I get the outrage but it's no good to you when local plod are pulling up screenshots of your posts and saying "This Is You, Yeah?"

I think folk get lulled into a false sense of security on here because their real name isn't attached to their posts but of course we all know it's trivial for the authorities to put names and addresses to posts.

 

Frankly there's been far worse posted on here than the joke that got this bloke knicked, it's only the fact it's a quiet corner of the internet and no one has reported them that folk on here haven't had the same treatment.

Also I would personally advise that people not have open facebook pages, I am gobsmacked how many people I know allow ANYONE to be able to view their pages, set them up so only friends can see your updates and don't post stuff like this on public pages.

 

It's easy to tell people to think before posting but minutes after a bomb has gone off people's feelings are running high, the cops won't take that in to account they are dying to make examples of people.

 

Anyway I am not telling anyone else what to do, I have been mulling this over for some time because I am a devils advocate as well and I like pushing the limits to what we can say but it feels more and more that we're living in a police state.

Good post pal That's the same reason I like to post about politics on here and a few other right leaning sites (well, that and the fact it's a laugh winding folk up ), how can you develop your own views and beliefs if you never challenge them?

We've always had partisan divide. We always will. The scary thing about 2017 is that it's incredibly easy to shield yourself from content you disagree with, and just as easy to find information that supports you. It's our civic duty to separate the truth from the bullshit. Social media algorithms make that increasingly unlikely for the lazy.

I quite like how you stick to your guns and have no concern for popular opinion but the way you twist words, avoid questions when it suits, insult unnecessarily, wild accusations that are totally inaccurate, sensationalise things to mislead people all make me think you are a manipulative wrong un and I suspect a hidden agenda. Now imagine if someone on here doesent like the comments you write and post.

And fills a folder full of screen shots and hands it to the authority's.

Then your front door will come through.

As has been quoted on this site and loads of boys have mentioned it.that the stuff you post on here has been put In front of lads in the police station courts etc.

If you know there's a grassing fecker in the pub.

Do you sit in there talking about the dodgy stuff you do etc.thats if you are inclined to do dodgy stuff.

Who's looking at your posts on here who's keeping a record of what you are saying.

The answer is we don't know.

But it feels ok venting our thoughts while sitting on the sofa having a brew in our own home.

You have me stereotyped Chris .I'm just a pissed off English man, one of thousands whos not afraid to speak his mind .I also employ 12 people and have a family who I'd like to grow up free from the torment our lives are bothered by .I'm no terrorist but I'm willing to stand up for my freedom .Many seem to think ,including our government ,that we will just roll over ,forget and shrink back to the little people we once we're like we've done for years but the tide is turning and I'm just commenting on that fact .We no longer want to put up with it .

 

No issue with that, mate, but years ago when this forum was only a few hundred members strong some of us had our personal information, photos etc, posted on an anti site. I had a few anonymous phone calls and while I took it on the chin I was genuinely concerned for my wife and kids.

 

As a result threatening to post someone's personal information is a really shitty trick. If you want to go down that road at least make it between consenting adults when you take it offline.

It is pretty sad if people have had legal problems because of comments made on here. I don't know if bgd or anybody else on here has an agenda to cause problems like that, I wouldn't be surprised if he had some sort of agenda but I don't know what. I certainly hope that is not the case as I have heard people have been arrested for milder words than I have read on here and those words don't go away once posted. In saying that thl is tame compared to YouTube comments, people really vent on there! I enjoy the craic on here and I don't want it suppressed in any way, shape or form and if it wasn't for the hunting laws this site would be a real blast!
