Islamic school head forced out after weapons and £400,000 cash found at flat in grounds

The headteacher of an independent Islamic school has been forced out to spare it from closure after a raid by armed police uncovered weapons and more than £400,000 in cash at a flat in the grounds.

Officers were called to the Darul Uloom school in Chislehurst on May 30 after reports of a man brandishing a gun. Headteacher’s son Yusuf Musa, who was the school’s designated safeguarding staff member, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers found a toy gun at his flat as well as bladed weapons and more than £400,000 in cash, Westminster magistrates’ court heard.

Headteacher Mustafa Musa was arrested the following day on suspicion of money laundering, sparking an emergency application by the Department for Education to shut the school. Government officials told the court they were concerned about the safety of the 155 pupils and applied for an order to suspend the school from the official register.

At court this morning, the school fended off the closure bid by agreeing that Mr Musa, and his son, will have “no involvement whatsoever” with the school in the future.

The two men are now banned from the grounds, including Yusuf Musa’s flat, and accommodation for pupils who pay £3,000-a-year fees as boarders.

The school may be shut temporarily until a government-approved trustee has been appointed to handle safeguarding. An independent safeguarding audit must be carried out and the school must accept and act on any recommendations, the court heard.

Chief magistrate Emma Arbuthnot, who was due to hear the application, said: “I had real concerns and understand why the department brought the application. I had a concern about what £400,000 was doing in cash at the school — I think that’s a danger to the school. If all the parents know they send money in and pay their fees in cash, that is a risk to the school. I would like there to be a bank account.”

The school has failed a series of Ofsted inspections in the past two years, when serious problems with its safeguarding and leadership were identified.

Gavin Irwin, the lawyer representing the school, told the court there have been “very positive and meaningful safeguarding improvements in recent weeks”.

“It’s a steady, if perhaps too slow, improvement,” he said.

The two men were questioned by police and remain under investigation. They have not been formally charged with any offence.

John Hartley, from solicitors Hodge Jones & Allen, which represents the school, said trustees "take their responsibilities for safeguarding children extremely seriously".

"They have made significant structural changes to the school’s leadership and will keep the safeguarding of those children in its care under constant review," he said.

"However, they are pleased that the court has recognised improvements have been made and that there are no immediate reasons for the school to be permanently closed.”

These two monsters raped and sexually assaulted children but were spared prison because 1. His wife could not speak english (like that is even relevant) and 2. the other guy blamed his Islamic school in the Uk where he had been taught 'women are no more worthy than a lollipop that has been dropped on the ground'. Oh but Tommy Robinson was given 13 months in Prison for reading an already published BBC article on live stream detailing the latest out of hundreds of gang grooming cases happening across this country. Political policing! #FreeTommy July 14th London!

Also UKIP have a bit of an image problem were the voters are viewed as 60 year old, middle class, tweed wearing, Volvo drivers.

They need to attract a broader voting base, namely more younger people.

Do you think bringing Meechan on board is going to do them any favours? It's a bold move if they're worried about an image problem.

Just to add, I dont think (for all the big talk from folk ) that the Libertarian message plays that well with the majority of people because of just how small a state they advocate......people still want their NHS and hand outs.

They want their cake and they want to eat it.......I don’t think it’s in the vast majority of UK voters DNA to be truly independent without the Tit of the state to fall back on and suckle from.

As I said over on the Brexit thread there are people eloquently arguing your rights away based on the right not to be offended and for the sake of security. That's a hard mountain to climb for any team other than the big two. While I'd happily vote for them I'm under no illusion that it'll work but then I did that back then anyway when I was eligible.

I'm going to repeal all welfare laws and put health care to market forces is political suicide even if you could save everyone in Britain a ton of money in the process but when 70% of people think that the NHS just needs a cash injection you might as well beat your head against the wall.

C'mon Mack. Tommy breached his license by breaking a reporting ban. The fact that he was there filming was enough before he opened his mouth. Rightly or wrongly you can't p*ss off a judge without some kind of repercussions.

I do love the other headline though!

WEAPONS AND CASH FOUND AT SCHOOL!!

I don’t think anybody would give a shit about Meechan joining, if they did it would because he used to be a communist.

I was thinking more of the wider public. His video hasn't endeared him to a lot of the voters and if they're trying to get away from the right wing older image it's a very strange way of showing it IMHO.

Oh, I don't doubt that. I'm sure he's not on a libertarian crusade to stick it to the tax man, for sure.

I just had to laugh at what constitutes a cache of weapons!

Agreed but a toy gun (not replica gun) and some bladed weapons? Kitchen knives? I don't doubt that money is for something shady but if that's what constitutes weapons nowadays I have to laugh.

Khalid Ali: British Taliban bomber guilty of Westminster plot

A British plumber has been convicted of planning a terror attack in Westminster and making bombs for the Taliban.

Khalid Ali, 28, was arrested on 27 April 2017 in Parliament Street, where he was caught carrying three knives.

Prosecutors said Ali, from Edmonton in north London, had planned a "murderous attack" on politicians and police.

In a police interview, Ali said he wanted to deliver a "message" to British authorities, but claimed the knives were for protection.

An Old Bailey jury convicted him of preparing an act of terrorism in the UK and two counts of possessing an explosive substance with intent. He did not react as the verdicts were read out.

Ali will be sentenced on 20 July.

On 22 April last year - one month after the Westminster terror attack - Ali was caught on CCTV walking past the MI6 building at Vauxhall Cross, as well as Westminster Bridge, the Houses of Parliament and Whitehall.

Five days later, his mother called police and said she had found four knives in his bedroom.

Police swooped in to arrest him just metres from Downing Street later that day.

Ali had spent several years in Afghanistan, and when asked by British police whether he had returned to the UK for jihad, he replied: "Jihad is what we do. We are Mujahideen."

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon described Ali as an "incredibly dangerous individual".

Prosecutor Brian Altman QC had told the jury that Ali planned a "deadly terror attack at the very heart of this country's democracy by killing a police officer, a member of the military or even a parliamentarian".

DNA samples

Ali travelled to Afghanistan in 2011 and spent five years making bombs to maim and kill coalition troops.

In late October 2016, he appeared at the British consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, claiming to have lost his passport and asking for a temporary travel document in order to get home.

He returned to the UK in early November 2016, when he was stopped at Heathrow airport, interviewed by police and had his fingerprints and DNA samples taken.

The DNA samples and fingerprints were then shared with the FBI, which controls a database containing fingerprints found on bomb parts in global conflict zones.

FBI agents found 42 prints linking Ali to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in Afghanistan.

Defending the decision not to arrest Ali until April 2017 - when he was armed and within metres of Parliament - Mr Haydon said police and security services were "managing any potential risk he posed and he was arrested at the most appropriate time".

During questioning after his arrest, Ali admitted fighting British soldiers in Afghanistan, but refused to say whether he had killed any.

In a police interview shown during the trial, Ali also said he had detonated more than 300 bombs.

The court heard how his fingerprints were found on component parts of explosive devices that were handed in to US forces in Afghanistan in 2012.

Police said Ali had been in a "Taliban training camp affiliated to al-Qaeda where, for several years, he helped terrorists make hundreds of bombs capable of mass murder".

Ali's prints were found on bomb components from two caches recovered by Afghan national security forces

Bang on mate...

too many couldn’t handle the reality of having to graft for everything.

i hear a lot of shouting for these fringe parties based purely on the immigration/Muslim view point.. problem is a lot who seem to be shouting like a hand out or 2... and then moan about all the foreigners taking up there NHS spaces...

f**k the NHS off... its crap... give us back 8% or 10% of our tax contribution in our ass pocket and we can all pay for it..

if your disabled, elderly, between jobs (but actively looking)... there can be a pot for this aside if treatment is required...

it may make the whole country a little less inviting for our foreign friends if we all have to contribute from the word go!!

Saturday 27th an armed man attempted entry to a synagogue outside of San Diego, California. According to eyewitnesses he was armed with an "AR style assault rifle" and 3 people have been injured and one has been confirmed dead.
AR15's are illegal in California. The shooter was engaged by the synagogue's armed security which in this case was an off duty border patrol agent. The shooter fled the scene and gave himself up to LE.
The narrative of this story began as one of gun control but has quickly shifted to that of a hate crime now that more details have come to light. The article is from CNN but pretty factual with what's known at this time. The shooter has broken numerous laws and the bad guy with the gun was stopped by a good guy with a gun.

It's official. American socialist icon Bernie Sanders has officially declared that he's running for commander in chief in 2020. He's raised around $5.9 million from more than 220,000 donors in the first 24 hours, which has trumped even the Donald at this point. Many of those donors are set up for recurring donations that are set to net $600,000 a month.
Last time around there were allegations of hamstringing as despite Bernie's popularity with the American electorate as he conceded to Hillary Clinton despiting winning many of the primaries by a large margin. Looking at Hillary's disasterous performance in 2016 it'll be interesting to see whether Sanders remains an independent candidate or goes full Democrat as the group whittles itself down to a frontrunner.

      Hello,

I am a university student from Plymouth and I am conducting a research project with the aim of better understanding attitudes towards lynx in the UK, now that a reintroduction is seemingly ever more.

I believe that the attitudes of deer stalkers and hunters are important and will provide a valuable contribution to the study. I also believe that it is important that your views are represented as you are a stakeholder group who may be affected by future reintroduction.

If you could take the time to complete my survey I would be extremely grateful, it should take around 5 minutes. The data collected will be treated with the strictest of confidence.

It may be accessed using the link below:

      Thank you
