Bull Lurcher Questions

Working ability varies whatever the breeding in my opinion; I choose bull x's because I love the loyal nature and playful character of bull breeds which I just haven't experienced with other crosses to the same degree.

Very popular dog in Australia I have seen many in action and owned a couple, mainly used for pigs, fox’s, roos, but are still handy over the nets & in the light a good all-rounder that’s for sure, but do your research on how much bull to grey you need for your type of hunting. Speed v brawn. PS make sure you well socialise from a young age. ATB

Get a steady,racey one and they will do most things,getting the right one lies the problem.my bullxwhip will retrieve pheasants,softly to me on driven days.rabbit, ferret,track,verminator,and more.if you end up with a point n fire meat head with more drive than brain,it will end up dead.

My mist is a great dog biddable and intelligent she was having a walk up the field last night 200 yards away I shouted her name and put my hand up and she sat down Magic dig she is , just thought I'd share that ? Probably feck all to do with the post but yea there's nothing wrong with them the land I walk ??

Best rabbit dog iv ever seen was a bull x. Bred from the right stuff that is slightly on the smaller side there amazing and give them half a chance to make a strike they will take it because there prey drive on average is mad compared to a lot of other crosses. There not all 1 trick ponies like a lit think unless your taking about the huge ones that look like ponies tht i personally couldnt even compare to a lurcher.

My 1/4 bull bitch clears up on bunnies, as did a 3/8 5/8 bitch I saw work regularly! Iv seen big heavy half xs take em too. In fact at the start of every season I'll run rabbits for a fees weeks or four...sharpens em up and get em back in shape nice and quick.

 

I have once seen my bitch hit a rabbit so hard that she skidded down a hill with bunny under her chest, the bunny was nearly completely skinned and very dead....wasn't quite the perfect retrieve I'd hoped for ?

Iv also seen what is possibly the highest strung half X Iv seen shake a rabbit like it was a fox!!! Bits of bunny going everywhere....this dogs insane, borderline psychotic. If you stop walking when lamping he loses his mind and starts spinning and jumping about, wild f****r but for what he's bred for 100% no messing about. I wouldn't own it tho

youve got to love there commitment. My old bull x bitch had the nack of killing her bunnies and retrieving but very rarely damaging the meat. Same bitch is now dead at the age of 2.5 Hit a farmers gate.

A mates two 3/8 5/8 bitches from his line going back 20 odd years retrieve live to hand yet smash anything else. Originally Havoc stuff that he's tweaked along the way. Sensible, loyal and game.

I wish my old girl was young again she was great on the rabbit live to hand every time had as anything on anything else great with kids few times we came home after a long day with the terriers and my baby cousins would play with her didn't bother her ! Hopefully her daughter will be the same the dog I used was exactly the same hard but laid back

I'm wanting another mooching companion , I've had 2 Staffords and a staff X terrier and I gelled well with those dogs and found there temprement and attitude to suit me .

This is me wondering if the temprement and character carries over in the lurcher , I'm not after a world beater ( be nice though ) just a mooching ferreting and lamping dog .

A lot of Bullxs about wont have stafford in there makeup or not the kc type anyway,and there temperament can be different.

I'm in no rush to get a pup straight away anyway , I'll keep my eyes open and try and find a good line bred bull X from tried workers

Good call, just bring it up as any other type of lurcher, because thats all it is, a lurcher, too many folk thinking they are somehow different and bringing them on different and missing out on a whole lot of work and fun because of it!

The bull x is a great dog if you source one from the correct breeding. They are what they are dont be expecting a 5 out 5 day time hare dog because they aint they wee bred for teeth and teeth only.

They not rabbit or hare dogs put it that way

Many a Bull bred lurcher,especially 1/4 bred uns,are more than useful mutts in the field,especially on a bunny or a long gallop.Its the naive nonsense that Bull bred lurchers are the ultimate slayer and struggle on anything that "don,t bite back".Possibly why the type suffers more fools than any other lurcher type.
