The Lurchers Of Yesteryear Were They As Good As Made Out In Comparison To Today's Modern Running Dog

Recommended Posts

The lurchers of yesteryear were they as good as some people make out? My thoughts are if they were as good as made out were are they today why did the people who ran them not breed on an keep sound stock for them selfs an keep lines going to this day instead of buying a new dog in of unknown quality when a new runner is needed or was it a case of there was less people out hunting with dogs at that time less housing so more land also the old chaps moaning were a lot younger without family commitments an could get out more to do abit a lot more often ??

In days gone by, there was far more freedom, Hunting with hounds was no problem coursing was no problem, we could get permission to walk the land, with a couple of dogs, the last 20years, it has been

It is easy to say,.."back in my day",..etc, etc...   BUT,...facts are,...things were different.....

They were better by far..??

What era ? I would say probably better years ago as they were supposed to do a job ,now with Internet people hyped or bullshit their dogs ,and try to sell pups .

Or breeding of dogs that are still sapling hounds.

Years ago dogs that were useless were more likely to be culled and same with unwanted litters,

Now you see accidental litters being sold for £200 each.

I would still rather cull than have loads pups left over ??

Where's Jeff when you need him ?, The days when no mean man could keep a greyhound unless it's feet were smashed with a mallet are long gone, and the pleasure of watching a dog run in a sporting way can be as or more important than catching game for the pot to some of the modern day lurcher keepers
