Im saying john wilson avon quiver. Ive just bought myself the signiture one and love it great tool

Iv'e got an old Edgar Sealy glass fiber spinning rod i inherited at 8, had it over 40 years, before anyone told me i needed a special rod for every situation, i caught everything on it   Modern r

So by reading this thread diawa whisker seem to be a popular choice among us anglers

Looking for a rod at the minute if anyone has reccommendations?10 foot or smaller,5-6lb test curve, going to use it with 80lb braid on a big pit reel.

Catmaster tackle dominators come in 4,5,6 and 8lb tc but they are 10.9ft and harrison do a 10ft 6lb torrix continental catfish rod
I need something small mate, the fish often run under the jetty and a smaller rod can muscle them out,i used a 10 Foot spod rod 5lb tests curve a few years ago,it was ok when they ran out into the lake but when they came at me it didnt cut it,I will have a look at the sturgeon rod and a few others, the cats in the lake run up to 330? pounds and the arapaima are much bigger,i dont want to go over there for a week long session undergunned.

Daiwa do an 8.6ft 6lb tc and 9.2ft 5lb whisker catfish rod and from what I've been reading , the freespirit 10ft 6lb tc rods are used at gillhams

Oh,i didnt know gillhams used those mate,i have a couple of months to gather my bits and bobs,i am researching all the rods mentioned, theres a lake i have been given the nod for in myanmar and a couple in LOS,all have biggies in them, roll on 2016,tight lines for everyone.

For double hand rods i bought a salmo logic 13.1 for the last few weeks of the salmon season ....very good rod that just wants line all the time .....I have the 15' g loomis roaring river that throws out a huge line and the heavier the fly the better but know a lot of lads that struggle with it but it seems to suit me ....the loop cross is a good rod but for value for money the Shakespeare oracle skandi is awesome for the price ....as for spinning rods they are all the same ...lol

Modern rods i like, are both FOX, 1 3/4 test fox barbel is a good rod imo, iv'e had loads of barbel on mine, most from the Trent, it makes a good long distance bream rod. I wanted a pair of heavier rods just for the Trent, and after being impressed with the 1 3/4 fox, i got a pair of fox 2 3/4 test barbel, they're not pokers by a long chalk, but cast a fair weight really well, iv'e had mainly barbel on them, but odd accidental carp/bream and even a few decent pike that went for feeders. Good rods for the money i think?

Have to agree I've caught untold on mine,if I'm honest I haven't used another rod other than when I boat fishing/spinning for 8 yrs, gone through a few Avon top's lol never payed a bean for a replacement, very versatile for fresh water, well worth the money, played fish on alot of other specimen rods greys/harrisons/korum/wynchwood they don't come close IMHO. Ive a few different rods but my favorite is the one i got when my grandad passed-away. Its an old splitt cane type that had a old diawa fixed spool reel onit. I lernt to fish on that rod with him and i have no idea the value of it but to me its priceless in sentimental value.

It still gets dusted off and gets used every season when the trout season kicks off.

I've got an old daiwa carp rod I borrowed off my uncle 21 years ago that I used for everything. Light enough for roach and strong enough for piking and decent carp, I think it was 2 1/4 test curve or summat but all the writing faded off along with the lacquer so I had it professionally restored recently.

Shakespeare Match International. Revolutionised match fishing rods when they first came out. Designed by two of the greats of match fishing, Clive Smith and Ken Giles.

MAP Dave Harrell 13ft spliced tip match rod. (Got 6 of um) ;)

Daiwa 11/13ft Amorphous Whisker Stillwater feeder rod. (Superb Bream rod) Copied loads of times, but never betterd IMO.

For a big chuck on big rivers. The original Daiwa Porky Pig.

...........I'm sure an old Normark thingymajig will be along shortly. :whistling:

Lol... That's not aimed at me is it mate?? Lol

I love the Map Dave Harrell 13ft match rod...... But... The old Normark Titan is still my fave!! Lol

Also the Normark multi Quiver tip, used to get the extra soft "bream" tip, was brilliant for skimmers.

I wouldn't describe it as the best rod in the world but I rather like my Sonik SK3 Uptide rod (10ft 6 - 8oz)...I just find myself using it all the time: boat, shore and pier. It's nice and portable and I can get reasonable casting distances (100 yards or more on a good day).

Brilliant rods , I had one for chub and perch and wish I'd never sold it . If I remember right I think Simeon bond had something to do with that series and they did have a look of the freespirit rods . Edited by neil r
